Matthew Wade has been named captain for Australia's five-match Twenty20 series against Bangladesh, which starts in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Wade replaces regular captain Aaron Finch after he returned to Australia to undergo surgery on a knee injury sustained in the Caribbean last month.

The 33-year-old Wade takes the captain's arm-band for the second time in his career having previously led the team during the second Twenty20 meeting with India in Australia in December.

"I'm going to be wicketkeeping, so the distance between bowler and myself is a lot greater," said Wade of the challenge he faces leading the team.

"That means that there's a lot more responsibility on the individual, the bowler and the senior players around that to help me out around the ground.

"When you're coming in and taking over from someone it's just giving the ability for those guys to take ownership of their game and at the top of the mark, they need to execute."

Regular vice-captain Pat Cummins is one of several senior players not on the tour as the Australians ramp up their preparations for October's Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Alex Carey took over from Finch as captain of the one-day side during the 2-1 series win over the West Indies and Wade believes his experience can lift Australia's youthful batting line-up after losing the Twenty20 series in the Caribbean.

"Where my leadership might come in a little more is with our batting group," he said.

"We've probably got a younger batting group than we've had on these tours, not a lot of international experience between all our batters.

"The bowling takes care of itself with guys like (Adam) Zampa, (Mitchell) Starc and (Josh) Hazelwood – they've all played a lot of cricket together and they can take care of themselves."

It will be a humdinger of a clash in Colombo after Sri Lanka secured a spine chiller to win the second T20I by four wickets. The series decider is currently between a young Indian unit and a floated Sri Lankan team.

After India handled four debutants in their playing XI on Wednesday and posted an unobtrusive 132 for 5 in their 20 overs, the hosts rushed home with two balls to save and had Dhananjaya de Silva's 34-ball 40 to thank for the series-evening out win.

The surface at the R Premadasa Stadium has progressively eased back down all through the series, and we're probably going to see another slow and sultry playing surface for the third T20I. More slow balls should turn out to be extremely successful after the ball loses its shine, with spinners liable to get some turn.

Having enrolled a necessary T20I win, Sri Lanka should adhere to the same team that they played for the second T20I. Wanindu Hasaranga has scalped 29 T20I wickets at an economy of 6.82, and he has scored 178 runs with the bat. He is in splendid form.

Akila Dhananjaya will be a player to look out for from Sri Lanka. He has scalped nine T20I wickets at this venue at an economy of 7.7.

India

With Navdeep Saini experiencing a shoulder injury last evening, one of the net bowlers is probably going to highlight today.

Shikhar Dhawan and Sanju Samson will see to utilize their experience as the senior batsmen in the side, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal need to take their chances.

South African legend Dale Steyn trusts Mohammed Siraj has the right demeanor and abilities to prevail in England, picking the Indian pacer to have a fruitful Test profession.

In a section for ESPNCricinfo, Dale Steyn dissected the Indian pace attack. Commending Mohammed Siraj, the South African wrote:

“I think he brings a good attitude to the game. That’s another thing we tend to forget when you’re playing in English conditions. It’s not just about where you put the ball but also the attitude you bring, getting in people’s faces, making them play shots they don’t particularly want to play."

Dale Steyn figures India would have savored playing the pacer in the World Test Championship final. However, he concurred that that would have come at the expense of another bowler or a bowler who could bat better.

"Maybe that's something India would have really relished in the World Test Championship final, but it would have come with the sacrifice of some more runs." he wrote.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4 wickets off 22 runs spell dismantled the Sri Lankan batting lineup. In his latest YouTube video, Raja questioned the planning and approach of Dasun Shanaka-led side while chasing a 166-run target.

“When India scored 160-odd, they would have thought of winning this because you can expect Sri Lanka to commit mistakes frequently. To chase a target like this, you needed one or two partnerships. At least one batsman should have scored 70-odd runs and you could have crossed the line. But there was no strategy from this Sri Lankan team.

“If you can't chase 160 at home, where will you? And losing a game shatters the confidence of the team. To bring new players into a losing environment is dangerous. An unhappy environment in the dressing room squeezes your confidence and fearlessness. So, it is important for Sri Lanka to start preparing wickets that challenge India,” Ramiz said.

“This could be a tough series for Sri Lanka. They need to do something now. Especially, the middle-order needs to score runs. Similarly, while bowling, you cannot bowl well in patches. You need to be consistent. Spin did work for them but there was no consistency and succumbed to pressure. There's no point in playing at home if you can’t score 160,” Raja concluded.

The Indian cricket team was dealt another injury blow on Thursday when spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out of the five-Test series beginning August 4.

Washington is the third player after Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan to be ruled out of the tour.

It has been learnt that Washington has fractured a finger after being hit by a Mohammed Siraj delivery on the second day of the first class warm-up game between India and County XI.

"I'm truly honored to win this award. That I have received it for my performances in Test cricket makes it extra special," Devon Conway said. "Scoring a double century at Lord’s was a dream come true for me and to have also been able to contribute to our win over India in the ICC World Test Championship Final is something that I know I will proudly look back on in years to come. I would like to thank the ICC and New Zealand Cricket for their support and encouragement and look forward to the international cricket to come in the second half of this year."

Sophie Ecclestone wins ahead of the Indian pair: Left-arm spinner Ecclestone edged out the Indian pair of Shafali Verma and Sneh Rana to become the second English female to win the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award after Tammy Beaumont, who was crowned in February.

Ecclestone, a winner of the annual ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in 2018, was the most successful bowler in the one-off test against India in Bristol, where she finished with an eight-wicket haul. She also grabbed three wickets each in the two ODIs which followed.

"It’s really nice to win this award. It’s after a period in which we’ve played all three formats so it feels good to be recognised for my performances in the Test and the white-ball series," said Sophie Ecclestone. "We've been happy as a team how we’ve performed across this series. We would have liked to have won the Test match but hopefully, we can clinch the multi-format series. It’s all crucial preparation for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand when we’ll be defending the title we won in 2017, and we feel in a decent place as a team."

Shimron Hetmyer's 61 off 36 balls and Dwayne Bravo's unbeaten 47 helped the West Indies seal a comprehensive 56-run victory over Australia in the second Twenty20 international in St Lucia on Saturday, to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Australia's Mitchell Marsh struck his second half-century in as many matches with a steady 54, but a batting collapse similar to the one they suffered in the opening game meant the visitors were bowled out for 140 in 19.2 overs chasing 197 for a win.

It marked the first time since 2010 that the team lost all 10 wickets in consecutive T20 matches.

"We just said we were going to do the same things we did last night, even a little better. It was fantastic to see how Hetmyer responded," said West Indies' stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran.

Asked to bat first by Australia skipper Aaron Finch, the hosts got off to a solid start with 46 runs in the Powerplay overs as opening batsman Lendl Simmons blasted three sixes in his knock of 30 before man-of-the-match Hetmyer took over.

The left-hander was the aggressor with four sixes and two boundaries as he stitched together a 103-run partnership with Bravo, who had three hits over the fence as the Australian bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs.

"I think it was one of my best T20 innings. I think I paced it quite well. It really worked out well for me with the guys backing me to be the guy to just take it as deep as possible," Hetmyer said.

Andre Russell added 24 off eight balls after Hetmyer was run out, as the West Indies added 123 runs in last 10 overs to reach 196-4 on a good batting wicket.

Australia lost both openers inside four overs and barring Marsh, failed to rise to the occasion, as West Indies leg-spinner Hayden Walsh claimed 3-29 from his four overs while paceman Sheldon Cottrell returned figures of 2-22.

"Chasing 190 you have to get off to a good start," Finch said. "When both your openers get out cheaply, it puts pressure on a reasonably inexperienced middle order. The 100-plus partnership, that's the difference in the game."

The third T20 will be held at the same venue on Monday.
