Yuvraj Singh has now revealed that Stuart's father Chris Broad had met him during India vs Australia semi-final of the same tournament.

“I remember when we were playing the semifinal against Australia, Chris Broad, Stuart’s father was the match referee. He came before the game and said ‘thank you for almost finishing my son’s career.' I said ‘nothing personal. I got hit for 5 sixes, I know how it feels,” Yuvraj told Gaurav Kapur in the '22 Yarns’ podcast.

Yuvraj further added that Chris Broad requested him to gift his jersey from the England match to Stuart Broad.

“He was like ‘you have to give that shirt to Stuart, the one you wore while hitting six sixes.' I gave him the shirt and wrote ‘I know how it feels, coz I have been hit for five.' I said 'you are the future of England, I’m sure you are gonna do great things.' And look where he is today, more than 500 Test wickets,” Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj was asked whether he knew that Stuart Broad will go on to have such a prolific career for England.

“See it can happen to anyone. You can have a bad day and when you do only you are person who can understand what is actually going on. You work hard day in and day out to give the best for your country and when you have a day like that you suddenly don’t know who to turn up to. So you have to be your own saviour. It’s very easy for others to say anything,” Yuvraj added.

Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is one of the most crucial players in the team's Test lineup. Despite the absence of some major stars, he led Team India to a crucial win against Australia earlier this year. He, now, recalled the advice he received from former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid that ‘motivated’ and ‘inspired’ him.

Rahane shared his interaction with Dravid during a Duleep Trophy final in 2008-09 where he was playing for the West Zone while Dravid was representing the South Zone.

"I remember in a Duleep Trophy final, we were playing against South Zone in 2008-09 and Rahul Dravid was playing in it in Chennai. I got runs in that game – 165 and 98. Rahul bhai called me up after the game and said, I’ve read about you a lot, you are scoring a lot of runs. As a player, it is very natural that you will start expecting an India call-up. All I would tell you is to keep on doing what you’ve been doing,” Rahane told former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta in an interview with ESPNCricinfo.

"You keep focussing on that and India call-up will come automatically. Don’t run after it, it will follow you. Getting that advice from someone like Rahul bhai really motivated me a lot. That inspired me a lot. He has seen a lot of ups and downs. I got another thousand runs next seasons and two years after that, I was selected.”

Ajinkya Rahane went on to add that how he was anxious for not getting an India call-up despite his prolific innings in first-class cricket and said that Pravin Amre helped him out.

“The first three or four games in my first season of Ranji Trophy did not go well. People had started to say that I should be dropped and sent back to club cricket but Pravin Amre, who was our coach at that time said that ‘once we have got someone into the side, we should at least give him 7-8 matches before deciding.’

“There used to be seven league matches at that time and my rest of the games went quite well, I scored runs and from then, for the next five seasons, I scored more than 1000 runs every time in First-class Cricket. So yes, after the first two-three years I started thinking that I could get a call-up any day but the more I thought about it, the further it went away,” Rahane said.

Team India have been a dominant force in Test cricket and have won twice in Australia. Virat and Co., under Shastri, have performed well in ICC tournaments too, however, are yet to win one.

According to Ramiz, Team India are at its very best in terms of the bowling unit, whereas, he pointed out a few concerns with the team's batting lineup.

Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, and Ganguly were a part of India's golden batting era. But from a winning point of view, especially in overseas conditions, the current Indian team has done a marvellous job. Coach Ravi Shastri also deserves credit for this," Raja explained.

According to Ramiz Raja, PCB is hurting the team by preferring old players over young talents.

"I still don't understand the slotting and the selection of players in Pakistan cricket. That is because you select a team, you announce a lot of uncapped players and it is appreciated because once again, there is an eye on the future. And then you don't play them. It's just like sending an all-decked-up bride back without getting her married. Then you suddenly look back to the recycled players. Not only are they recalled to the team but they are also made to play. They are preferred over the uncapped players," said Ramiz on his YouTube channel.

Former Pakistan skipper took the example of Tabish Khan. He made a debut for the team at the age of 36 years.

"Then, according to the slotting, you announce a player in the Test squad like Salman Ali but you play him in the ODIs next time. So, either the earlier selection wasn't right or this selection isn't. You aren't aware of the quality of the player. It is like you debut a 36 or a 38-year-old (Tabish Khan) in Zimbabwe against a team like Zimbabwe but you don't give a chance to a 22-year-old. I mean I haven't seen this happen anywhere in the world. And then you also free him after the Test debut. It's basically a benefit match for him because you did not give him a Test cap with the future in mind. What kind of thinking and logic is this?" explained Raja.

"See, these (high-performance centres) platforms and centres are meant for age cricket where you bring out the future stars. When you invest big coaches on the future stars, only then your cricket and your system is benefitted and not that the already-established first-class and Test players. If you bring them back, how will you increase the canvas, the scope, and talent pool with this execution and planning? I will say it again, the biggest problem with Pakistan cricket is that their GPS is not set yet about moving forward," concluded Raja.

"I’m 34. If I’m performing well, better than a 22-23 year old, where is it written in the laws of the game that you’re not eligible to get picked for the national team? Who are those people judging you, and on ability are they judging you? By Ranji score? Fitness? If you’re scoring 800-900 runs consistently for two-three seasons, it means you have to be fit. Or you won’t be able to sustain it. So how can you be judged? Many a times I hear that ‘he’s above 30’. Where is it written that you can’t be picked? And who are these people who are taking away your right from you?" Sheldon Jackson said.

Former Indian cricketer Kiran More believes that Rohit Sharma will soon get the chance to lead Team India in near future. The former India chairman of selectors feels that several things will be clear after the much-awaited World Test Championship against New Zealand.

"I think the vision of the board drives these things. I believe Rohit Sharma will get a chance soon. Virat Kohli is a shrewd captain who played under MS Dhoni. How long he wants to captain the ODIs and T20s, he will also think. You will learn a lot more about these decisions after the England tour," More told India TV.

More was asked with split captaincy could work for the team, to which he replied that leading the team from the front in all three formats gets very tiring at one point.

"It [Split captaincy] can work in India. What the senior players think about the Indian team's future is very important. With Virat Kohli, captaining three teams isn't that easy plus he has to perform as well. And I give him the credit for it because performing in every format while captaining and winning... but, I think there will be a time when Virat Kohli will say 'Now it's enough, let Rohit lead the side'," said More.

"That will be very healthy actually. And this is a huge message for Indian cricket which will go on and on for generations. It's about respect that if Rohit Sharma is doing good he should be given a chance. I think Virat Kohli will set a great precedent if he does that. The future will hinge on his decision - how much rest he wants, if he wants to captain the Test team or the ODI team. He's a human too, his mind gets tired also," he concluded.

Pakistan's legendary pacer Wasim Akram has come to Mohammed Amir's defence after several former players criticised the left-arm pacer after retiring from Test cricket.

Amir announced his retirement after a fall out with head coach Misbah Ul Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis. Several former Pakistan players lashed out at the pacer for his decision, however, Akram felt that it was his personal decision and others should not have any problems.

“I still think he should have a place in the Pakistan side. We have three white-ball World Cups in the coming years. I have been saying for a long time that bowlers come in packs. When you have a senior bowler in the pack, he can guide the young bowlers in pressure situations by talking with them. They can have quite an impact by giving them confidence and providing them with options,” Wasim told Cricket Pakistan.

“When I had a senior bowler guiding me as a young bowler, I had Imran bhai and I would ask him before every ball. It gives you that added confidence when a senior bowler tells you to do something. I think that is also why Amir is so important,” he added.

“Amir should ask himself what his plans are for the future. He should ask himself what his personal goals are. He can get any league in the world. He is still one of the top bowlers in world T20 cricket.

“If he retired from Test cricket, by the way, it was his problem. It was his decision. Why are we going against someone because he retired? A player knows about his own body, especially a bowler. Test cricket is not easy. If you haven’t played first-class cricket for five years, then your muscles aren’t used to bowling for that long. Amir should just play his cricket. There is no point to all of this. He said what he had to say and explained his point of view. Now he should just play cricket and enjoy his family life as well,” Akram said.

"When you become the coach, you need to give at least 200 to 250 days a year to the team and that's a lot of work. I don't think I can manage so much work away from Pakistan, from my family. And as it is, I spend time with most of the players in the PSL, they all have my number," Akram told Cricket Pakistan in an interview.

Akram also talked about the bad behaviour of the people of Pakistan towards the coaches and seniors in the past years.

"I am not a fool. I keep on hearing and seeing the way people misbehave with their coaches and seniors. Coach isn’t the one playing. The players do that. The coach can only help with planning so if the team loses, I don’t think the coach is not as accountable as we hold him as a nation," Akram said.

"So I'm afraid of that as well, because I don't tolerate misbehaviour. And we are becoming that. I love the people… their enthusiasm and passion for the game, but without the misbehaviour that is shown in social media. It shows what we are."

"I find it easy to bowl to him (Rohit). I feel that I can get him out both ways. He struggles against the in-swinger from a left-armer and as well as against the ball that goes away early on," Amir had said.

However, this statement did not go down well former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria. He felt that the comment, by the former left-arm pacer, holds no significance.

“Mohammad Amir, you want to remain in headlines, no doubt. You have been a wonderful bowler for Pakistan. When you debuted, you made quite a name for yourself. You used to make the ball swing both ways with the new ball. You’ve troubled many batsmen and there’s nothing to take away from it. You troubled India in the Champions Trophy final and gave their batsmen a tough time in the Asia Cup as well,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

He compared's Amir's remarks to that of Abdul Razzaq, who commented on Jasprit Bumrah.

“But such statements are made when players are about to face each other in an upcoming or an ongoing series. Neither are we going to have an India vs Pakistan series, nor are you going to bowl to Rohit Sharma. You’ve said something out of the blue, similar to what Abdul Razzaq had said about Jasprit Bumrah. So, it is fine if you want to be in the limelight by making such statements. I understand that a bowler likes to say such things, express himself by saying stuff like ‘he’s my bunny, I like to get him out’.”

“Rohit Sharma is a player who has scored so many double-centuries, and on top of that, he is a run-machine. There is hardly a player who plays spinners and fast bowlers better than him. And as far as you are concerned, you no longer have that pace or swing, because of which you couldn’t perform for the last two years and were axed from the team. So you come back, perform and when he is against you, and then make such statements. It will make for an exciting battle,” Kaneria added.

“We have to plan properly in order to conquer. I'm not looking too much into the names of the opposition because as I said before these guys are talented in their own right as they would have not been selected for their national teams otherwise” - he added.

'Shimron Hetmyer can take West Indies cricket forward', says Kieron Pollard

Abhay Sharma, the fielding coach of the Indian women’s team, has professed that a great deal of work has to be done to the extent that the physicality and wellness of players are concerned.

Abhay Sharma was with the Indian women during the home series against South Africa in March. Notwithstanding, he didn't get a ton of time with the players since the series was declared unexpectedly. The fielding coach is wanting to draw out certain progressions in the group during the series in England.

Addressing PTI, Abhay Sharma said that the Indian women's squad is lingering behind in handling in contrast with overseas sides. He expounded:

"Overall development is needed as far as fielding is concerned. The game is changing, you have to be more athletic. Technically, work needs to be done.”

"What I observed is that a lot of girls are struggling with their throwing techniques. If you develop the wrong technique in your early days then it troubles you with injuries.

Once the technical side is taken care of, then you can build on the strength part" - he added.

On asking his input on the series against South Africa, Abhay Sharma answered that the South African team was certainly a lot speedier and adaptable in the field. The fielding coach added that he will attempt to communicate with the players on a one-on-one premise to see everyone's qualities and shortcomings in a superior way.

“As of now technically they really need to work hard. What I have noticed in women's cricket is that a lot of U-19 players are going on to play for the senior team. The workload is more on their shoulders and they are not that strong. We have to accept that there is a huge difference between foreign teams and our girls. The South African girls were more athletic, they cover the ground quicker and they are a little stronger also” – he said.

The series against South Africa was India's first in a year as the cricketing calendar was influenced because of COVID-19. As indicated by Abhay Sharma, aside from batting and bowling, the Indian team was poor with their running between the wickets as well. He said in such manner:

"The last series what I saw was there was a lapse in judgement in some cases, maybe because they were playing after a long time. A lot depends on the frame of mind. We will work sincerely on that front. The running between wickets is a huge part of the game. If the team is having good coordination then you can convert those singles into twos and that is one area where we can add pressure on the opposition."

Team India will play a one-off Test match, three ODIs, and three T20s in England in June. Later in the year, India will visit Australia for six limited-overs matches and a Test match at the WACA, which will be the women's group's first pink-ball experience.

Former Australian skipper Greg Chappell's stint as Team India's head coach was a very controversial one. Chappell was sacked as a coach after Team India had a disappointing 2007 World Cup campaign, where they suffered a first-round exit following defeats to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Chappell recalled his tenure as the coach for the Men in Blue and said that Dravid was really invested in India becoming the best team in the world, whereas others did not have the same feeling and resisted it.

"Dravid was really invested in India becoming the best team in the world. Sadly, not everyone in the team had the same feeling. They would rather concentrate on being in the team. There was some resistance from some of the senior players, because some of them were coming to the end of their careers," Chappell revealed on Cricket Life Stories Podcast.

He recalled the time when he axed Sourav Ganguly as captain and dropped him. He said it sent a message across the team.

"When Sourav got dropped from the team, we had a lot of attention from the players, because they realized if he can go, anyone can go. We had a great 12 months, but then the resistance got too much, Ganguly came back into the team. The message from the players was loud and clear – 'We don't want change.' Even though the board offered me a new contract, I decided that I did not need that kind of stress," Chappell added.

Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt disagreed with Michael Vaughan who recently claimed that Kane Williamson would've been termed as the greatest player currently had he been an Indian while comparing the Kiwi to Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Vaughan had told Star Sports, "If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world. But he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media.

"So, you all say Virat is the best purely to get a few more clicks and likes, few more numbers following here. Kane Williamson, across formats, is equally the best. I think the way he plays, the calm demeanor, his humbleness, the fact that he is silent about what he does," he added.

Former England captain was trolled on social media for his statement.

Salman Butt too joined the troll brigade and called the comparison "irrelevant".

"Kohli belongs to a country which has a huge population. Obviously, he would have a bigger fanbase. On top of that, his performance is better too. Virat has 70 international tons at the moment, no other batsman from this era has that many. And he has, for a long period, dominated the batting rankings because his performances have been outstanding. So I don’t understand what and where is the need to draw comparisons," Butt said on his YouTube channel.

"And who has compared the two? Michael Vaughan. He was a brilliant captain for England, but the beauty at which he used to bat, his output wasn't on par. He was a good Test batsman but Vaughan never scored a single century in ODIs. Now, as an opener, if you haven't scored a century, it's not worth discussion. It’s just that he has a knack of saying things that stir up a debate. Besides, people have a lot of time to stretch a topic," Butt added.

He further opined, "Williamson is great. He's a top-class batsman and the best in the world. There is no doubt. Williamson may take the points in terms of captaincy, but he (Vaughan) hasn't discussed captaincy. In terms of players, there is a huge cap. Kohli's stats and performance and the way he has won India matches, especially chasing, it's outstanding. Since the time both are playing, no one has been as consistent as Kohli. What Vaughan has said is irrelevant."
