The girls since then have focused on their solo careers, with Jennie releasing her solo debut in November 2019 and followed by Rosé. Lisa made her solo debut with singles in 2021. Whale Jisoo went on to act in the K-drama 'Snowdrop’. BLACKPINK's comeback YG Entertainment confirmed BLACKPINK’s comeback and in a statement said: "We have prepared a lot of BLACKPINK-esque music that has been prepared with great effort over a long time. K-pop group BLACKPINK to make a comeback with new album in August

When three best friends from South Korea, actor Park Bo-gum, Lisa from K-pop girl group Blackpink and BTS member V, arrived at Paris Fashion Week, the crowd rushed to the surrounding streets for a glimpse of the three stars.

Looking every bit stunning in stylish attires, the trip from South Korea made heads turn at the event.

Right before Celine's runway show, they arrived at the venue to watch leggy and long-haired models march down a wide runway in sunglasses, sequin-embellished shirts and hands thrust in front pockets.

Coming to out three South Korean stars' OOTDs, V wore a red leather jacket with black leather pants for his maiden runway show. He added edginess to his look with a silver neckpiece.

On the other hand, Park Bo-gum opted for a more mature look. He wore a coat over his own attire and looked handsome from head to toe.

Lisa dazzled in her backless shimmer top which she paired with a formal skirt. She accessorised her outfit with a black clutch bag and her blonde bangs took the look a notch higher.

Photos and videos of Lisa, V and Park from Paris Fashion Week are going viral on social media. And, netizens are beyond excited to see the trio rock the fashion industry in Paris.

Did you know renowned actress, model, singer, and businesswoman Naomi Campbell is a BLINK? Yes, you read it right! The diva loves K-pop band BLACKPINK's Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa and she recently shared a post to give a shoutout to the 4 beauties. As BLACKPINK made history by becoming the first K-pop girl group to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, Campbell came forward to shower some love on them. On her Instagram Stories, the English model posted BLACKPINK’s Rolling Stone cover along with black and pink heart emojis. She also added their song 'How You Like That' to the post. BLACKPINK is the third all-female band from all countries to grace the cover of the prestigious magazine. Almost two decades ago, another girl band, Destiny's Child, landed the cover. Spice Girls was the first all-girl band that achieved the feat in 1997. On May 23, the cover image of Rolling Stone magazine was uploaded on the official Instagram handle of the K-pop girl band. "Honored to be on the cover of @rollingstone! #BLACKPINKxRollingStone," the post's caption read. Here's how BLACKPINK band members reacted to Jisoo's acting debut in 'Snowdrop'

Korean drama 'Snowdrop' is all set to premiere in India on OTT platform Disney+Hotstar on February 9. The show has been in the news ever since the first trailer came out. The show has just wrapped up in the South Korean network JTBC and received modest ratings and reviews. But 'Snowdrop' remained in news right from the beginning- even before it was aired in South Korea- for its controversial story which many alleged was insensitive to Korean history.

The show stars popular Korean actor Jung Hae-in and marks the acting debut of BLACKPINK singer Jisoo.

What is the plot of 'Snowdrop'?

The story is set in 1987 - an important time in South Korean history, as it was the year that citizens protested and called for an end to the authoritarian government.

The series is primarily a love story of Im Soo-ho(Jung Hae-in), a North Korean spy and Young-ro (Jisoo), a college student. Jung plays a spy, who is discovered in a bloodied condition by Jisoo, and she hides him in her dormitory room as she presumes him to be as a pro-democracy activist. With the help of her friends, she hides him from the government, who are actually looking for the North Korean spy.

What is the controversy?

Months before the show aired in South Korea, in March 2021, the show landed in trouble when the synopsis of the show leaked online giving an impression that it was distorting history.

Based on the synopsis, people believed that the male lead is a spy, who has infiltrated the activist movement, while another lead character is a team leader at the Agency For National Security.

The network on which the show was to air, JTBC, provided clarification on the plot soon after but the opposition on the show remained. Most found the show insulting as it depicted a North Korean spy's involved with the pro-democracy movement.

The socio-political context has been deeply emotional for most in the country. The protestors for the regime in the 1980s were falsely accused of being North Korean spies. The pro-democracy protesters were imprisoned, tortured and killed by the government to suppress voices.

The uproar continued after the release of the first two episodes in December 2021. Fans took to social media to discuss the problems with the show- and claimed that the team was 'insensitive' to people who had struggled and fought for democracy in the country.

Jisoo’s name in the show further angered sentiments, with many saying that her character’s initial name was also the name of a real-life protestor, whose husband was killed after he was falsely accused of being a North Korean spy. People also had problems with the way Central government intelligence was depicted on the show- who were typically tasked to arrest North Korean spies.

They alleged that the show was glorifying a lead character from the Agency For National Security Planning (NSP), which was part of the authoritarian regime at the time. The use of a symbolic song for the democracy movement in the show was also criticised.

The clarification

A petition demanding the cancellation of the show was posted on the website of the Blue House (the executive office and official residence of South Korea’s head of state) soon after the show premiered. The petition had over 300, 000 signatures and alleged that the show “defames the value and reputation of the democratisation movement”.

Following the backlash, JTBC issued a statement explaining the background and motif of including important incidents from History in the show.

"With this background, it contains a fictional story of the party in power colluding with the North Korean government in order to maintain authority. 'Snowdrop' is a creative work that shows the personal stories of individuals who were used and victimized by those in power,” the statement read.

The statement also stated that no spy in 'Snowdrop' leads the democratization movement.

The makers insisted that most of the misunderstandings and concerns over “history distortion” and “disparaging the democratization movement” would be answered as the drama progresses. JTBC stood firm on their story, though some advertisers were quick to opt-out.

The outrage continues

While the show has ended in South Korea, it still continues to be in news. On January 30 this year, in an open letter Korean professors and scholars asked the president of Disney+, Asia Pacific, to find experts and evaluated the historical facts in the drama. The letter was addressed to Walt Disney’s Asia Pacific president Luke Kang.

South Korea’s soft power -- music and entertainment is an industry to reckon with in global standards. As the world continues to stay obsessed with Korean dramas, K-pop music has charted worldwide success thanks to a few groups/bands that have made a powerful standing for themselves. We cannot not mention BTS that has become the face of K-pop music with fandom for the boy band only increasing by the day but there’s one more band that is not far behind in numbers and their way to global superstardom -- Blackpink.

As the girl band celebrates their five years anniversary since their debut in 2016, they released a documentary/short feature ‘BLACKPINK: THE MOVIE’ that lets the fans come a step closer with their beloved band members -- Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, Rosé -- all unique personalities with different backgrounds and vision for themselves.

Based on the journey of K pop supergroup Blackpink until now, the feature explores the individuality of each member as they jam together and make world-class music that has made records and shattered many others in due course of its run. The film caters to the liking of fans who are crazy in love with the group Blackpink and call themselves BLINKs, much like how BTS fans are called ARMY all around the world.

The film has lots and lots of music as group members dance, look cute in glitzy outfits and belt out their hits including Lovesick Girls, How You Like That, Ice Cream, Forever Young, As If It’s Your Last, Whistle and many others. Blackpink’s Lisa dropped her solo debut album 'Lalisa'

Directed by Su Yee Jung and Oh Yoon-Dong, ‘Blackpink: The Movie’ sees the girls get emotional with the love of their fans, their last world tour, their urge to get back on stage as concerts/public gatherings have been stopped since COVID-19 brought in hindrances. However, it does give you a feel of the concerts and what it will be like once you get back to the ‘pre-pandemic normal’, if at all! Watch: BLACKPINK vocalist Rose finally drops her solo debut album

More than anything, ‘Blackpink: The Movie’ rejigs our memory of the time when going for a performance wasn’t such a novel idea and was just a matter of buying tickets. The film definitely creates an urge for us to go back in time when social and physical distancing was only a thing of the mind.

Blackpink’s Lisa dropped her solo debut album 'Lalisa' Directed by Su Yee Jung and Oh Yoon-Dong, ‘Blackpink: The Movie’ sees the girls get emotional with the love of their fans, their last world tour, their urge to get back on stage as concerts/public gatherings have been stopped since COVID-19 brought in hindrances. However, it does give you a feel of the concerts and what it will be like once you get back to the ‘pre-pandemic normal’, if at all! Watch: BLACKPINK vocalist Rose finally drops her solo debut album More than anything, ‘Blackpink: The Movie’ rejigs our memory of the time when going for a performance wasn’t such a novel idea and was just a matter of buying tickets. The film definitely creates an urge for us to go back in time when social and physical distancing was only a thing of the mind.
