BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment renew their contract as 'non-exclusive': Report

<p>K-pop singer Lisa of megastar girl group Blackpink has been banned from China's Weibo social media platform, sparking speculation among fans Friday that the censorship was tied to a burlesque performance she gave in Paris.</p>

<p>Lisa, whose full name is Lalisa Manobal, disappeared from Weibo this week, with her personal page replaced by an error message saying her account was "not viewable due to being reported for violating laws (and) regulations".</p>

<p>Also banned from posting was Hong Kong actress Angelababy, whose real name is Angela Yeung, due to "violations of relevant laws and regulations", a message on her official Weibo account says.</p>

<p>The platform gave no further explanation for the bans. Lisa's management agency YG Entertainment told AFP that it had no official statement to offer.</p>

<p>But Weibo users and Chinese entertainment sites speculated that the two had been censored after reports in late September that Angelababy had attended a burlesque show by Lisa at the Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse.</p>

<p>Lisa "set the Crazy Horse Paris stage alight on September 28, 29 and 30, 2023 with five exclusive performances that left an indelible impression on both the audience and her fans all over the world", the venue's website said.</p>

<p>Lisa posted photos of herself in cabaret attire on her official Instagram in October, quipping, "Such an amazing experience at (Crazy Horse)... Call me whenever you need someone to fill a spot."</p>

<p>Chinese censors are quick to block content considered politically sensitive or going against the ruling Communist Party's socially conservative values, with stars targeted in the past for tattoos and "effeminate" fashion.</p>

<p>The blocking of the two stars comes after President Xi Jinping called on women to help in "promoting traditional Chinese virtues and sound family values".</p>

<p>Weibo users complained that censorship had gone overboard, sharing a screenshot of a state media report from 2012 -- the year Xi came to power -- that praised the Crazy Horse cabaret for highlighting Parisian fashion designers.</p>

<p>"There's nothing to say at all about this, if this issue came up in the 2000s, who would care, let alone block you?" one Weibo user wrote.</p>

K-pop singer Lisa of megastar girl group Blackpink has been banned from China's Weibo social media platform, sparking speculation among fans Friday that the censorship was tied to a burlesque performance she gave in Paris.

K-pop singer Lisa of megastar girl group Blackpink has been banned from China's Weibo social media platform, sparking speculation among fans Friday that the censorship was tied to a burlesque performance she gave in Paris. Lisa, whose full name is Lalisa Manobal, disappeared from Weibo this week, with her personal page replaced by an error message saying her account was "not viewable due to being reported for violating laws (and) regulations". Also banned from posting was Hong Kong actress Angelababy, whose real name is Angela Yeung, due to "violations of relevant laws and regulations", a message on her official Weibo account says. Also read: Lisa Marie Presley had slammed Priscilla as 'vengeful and 'contemptuous': Reports The platform gave no further explanation for the bans. Lisa's management agency YG Entertainment told AFP that it had no official statement to offer. But Weibo users and Chinese entertainment sites speculated that the two had been censored after reports in late September that Angelababy had attended a burlesque show by Lisa at the Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse. Lisa "set the Crazy Horse Paris stage alight on September 28, 29 and 30, 2023 with five exclusive performances that left an indelible impression on both the audience and her fans all over the world", the venue's website said. Lisa posted photos of herself in cabaret attire on her official Instagram in October, quipping, "Such an amazing experience at (Crazy Horse)... Call me whenever you need someone to fill a spot." Chinese censors are quick to block content considered politically sensitive or going against the ruling Communist Party's socially conservative values, with stars targeted in the past for tattoos and "effeminate" fashion. The blocking of the two stars comes after President Xi Jinping called on women to help in "promoting traditional Chinese virtues and sound family values". Also read: WATCH | Apes and humans clash once more in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer Weibo users complained that censorship had gone overboard, sharing a screenshot of a state media report from 2012 -- the year Xi came to power -- that praised the Crazy Horse cabaret for highlighting Parisian fashion designers. "There's nothing to say at all about this, if this issue came up in the 2000s, who would care, let alone block you?" one Weibo user wrote. "Now the level of social tolerance in our country is lower than low," they complained. But others were supportive of the blocking, condemning Lisa's performance as inappropriate for its revealing outfits. "There's a cultural difference between China and other countries," another Weibo user wrote. "When my sister said she wanted to see Crazy Horse I wanted to strangle her," they added.

BLACKPINK becomes the first K-pop band to headline UK music festival

<p>BLACKPINK are currently on their&nbsp;<em>Born Pink </em>World Tour and performing in various cities across the world. After a brilliant performance at Coachella earlier this year, the K-pop girl band&nbsp;is currently in Australia performing in various parts of the country. During one of the concerts, band member Jennie Kim left the stage mid-performance leaving her fans worried. Jennie was also&nbsp;absent during the soundcheck before their Melbourne concert on 11 June 2023.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>What happened at BLACKPINK's Melbourne concert?</h2>

<p><br />
About halfway through the concert, while performing their&nbsp;hit song '<em>Lovesick Girls</em>,'&nbsp;Jennie left the stage abruptly&nbsp;to recover backstage. She claimed&nbsp;to be physically weak with a fragile immune system. The rest of the K-pop band members—Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé addressed the audience and assured them that Jennie&nbsp;was okay but was feeling unwell earlier in the day. “We’re so sad that we can’t have her today because she was so excited to be in Melbourne. I’m sure she’s feeling really upset backstage," they said. The rest of the members finished the concert without Jennie.<br />

<h2 class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family:Calibri;mso-bidi-theme-font:

Jennie told Rolling Stone about being sick after BLACKPINK’s tour in 2020. “I became sick, both mentally and physically,” she said. “This isn’t something I want to share in too much detail with the fans. They worry, so I want to be vague. But for three years after debuting, we worked nonstop without resting. You know, we were young, in our early twenties. Our sleep systems were breaking down; we weren’t eating properly; I wasn’t hydrating myself — we did that for three to four years, and then started our tour. We were on tour for a year and a half. BLACKPINK are currently on their Born Pink World Tour and performing in various cities across the world. After a brilliant performance at Coachella earlier this year, the K-pop girl band is currently in Australia performing in various parts of the country. During one of the concerts, band member Jennie Kim left the stage mid-performance leaving her fans worried. Jennie was also absent during the soundcheck before their Melbourne concert on 11 June 2023. What happened at BLACKPINK's Melbourne concert? About halfway through the concert, while performing their hit song 'Lovesick Girls,' Jennie left the stage abruptly to recover backstage. She claimed to be physically weak with a fragile immune system. The rest of the K-pop band members—Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé addressed the audience and assured them that Jennie was okay but was feeling unwell earlier in the day. “We’re so sad that we can’t have her today because she was so excited to be in Melbourne. I’m sure she’s feeling really upset backstage," they said. The rest of the members finished the concert without Jennie. Jennie’s response This is not the first time Jennie’s health has come to light. For a year and a half, I didn’t have a home.” BLACKPINK member Rose opened up about Jennie’s deteriorating health and stated that she was resting in order to save her strength for the main concert. <p>But despite their undeniable star power there was some surprise among industry-watchers and fans that Bad Bunny or Blackpink nabbed the top slots.</p>

<p>That take is misguided according to Vanessa Diaz, a professor at Loyola Marymount University who teaches the course "Bad Bunny and Resistance in Puerto Rico."</p>

<p>"They're surprised because they don't view this as mainstream American culture," she said.</p>

<p>"The American music industry, the American decision-makers, are not necessarily the biggest risk-takers," she told AFP. "They want to follow clear indication of public demand, as opposed to sticking their necks out."</p>

<p>English virtual band Gorillaz will also perform, as will New Wave pioneers Blondie and the American indie rock supergroup boygenius, which includes Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.<br />
<br />
Beyond the supernova that is Bad Bunny, the weekend will once again see a strong showing from Latinos, including but not limited to Los Angeles native Becky G, rapper Eladio Carrion, Argentina's Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and the Grammy-winning Kali Uchis.</p>

<p>Coachella will take place over two three-day weekends, from April 14-16 and 21-23.</p>

And OG rock fans will get a special treat: Blink-182 announced just this week it will play a set Friday, the first time the pop punk group will perform with its original lineup in nearly a decade.
