There’s a new twist in the tale as Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has revealed they have entered the race to host Asia Cup 2023 later this year. It comes as a blow to Pakistan, who, for some time now, were prepared to host the multi-team tournament in a hybrid model. On the sidelines of the washed-out IPL final day on Sunday, where all ACC members met, barring PCB representatives, the BCCI denied the latest hybrid model and said, it’s either Colombo or nothing. As reported earlier, heads of three boards - BCB, SLC and ACB, were in Ahmedabad for the IPL 2023 final, and after an informal discussion among them, the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah – who also happens to be the ACC chief, has played down PCB’s latest proposal. In that proposal, PCB suggested that while a few matches will take place on Pakistani soil, the Indian team will play all games in the UAE. It is a complicated process regarding logistics here, the Indian board didn’t accept it. "The SLC is prepared to host the Asia Cup at short notice. The decision now is up to the ACC," a top SLC official told Cricbuzz on Monday. He said, citing logistics issues, the BCCI had said, "Colombo or nothing." The SLC official also added that they ‘will go with the BCCI. While it remains unclear what is the status of PCB chief Najam Sethi on this, who earlier had opposed the idea of BCCI dictating terms on the multi-team events, and even threatened that Pakistan would boycott the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India if Asia Cup rights snatched. ICC members to visit Lahore Meanwhile, the latest reports also suggested ICC chairman Greg Barclay and its CEO Geoff Allardice will be in Pakistan on a two-day visit to decide on the venues for the 2023 World Cup, the schedule for which will be announced on the sidelines of the World Test Championship 2023 Final. Earlier, PCB had also shown reservations about playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but it is learnt the Indian board is in no mood to change the venue. While the Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place from 1st September to 17th September, the 50-over World Cup will happen from October 5th to November 19th. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Blow to Pakistan! Sri Lanka enter race to host Asia Cup 2023 on 'short notice'

In the major development regarding the future of Asia Cup 2023, the BCCI will come up with an announcement on the sidelines of the IPL 2023 final on May 28th in Ahmedabad.

As per reports, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has invited presidents of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan Cricket Boards for the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Following an informal discussion, an announcement related to the same will be made, according to reports.

"The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023," Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi had proposed a hybrid model for Asia Cup 2023. As per his proposal, PCB - the hosts of the tournament this year- will host four matches in the country, while the remaining games will take place in the UAE. Replying to this, Shah played down the idea.

While the hot temperature in the UAE in September is one of the reasons why BCCI, alongside other members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) barring PCB, had shown reluctance to play there, the Indian board had kept Sri Lanka as an option.

However, as per the report, even during the ongoing IPL 2023, an official from the UAE cricket board was in India to discuss exploring the possibility of hosting the Asia Cup in the Gulf; but that didn't go the way they wanted either.

Also, going by the reports, the ACC members had a backdoor discussion recently, where all parties concerned have agreed to reach a mutually acceptable decision.

Earlier, there were reports in Pakistan that following two and fro, the BCCI has somewhat agreed to Pakistan's latest hybrid model. But it remains to be seen, amid all such talks, what decision BCCI will take.

Considering PCB has threatened to boycott the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India later this year on several occasions lately, BCCI's final call will have large implications going forward.

Fate of Asia Cup to be decided on sidelines of IPL 2023 final - Reports

With so much chaos regarding this year's Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi stunned one and all with his recent suggestion of taking the continental tournament out of the Asian shores and hosting it in the United Kingdom, with the iconic Lord's stadium to host the India-Pakistan clash.

Asia Cup 2023 edition remains under dark clouds as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have made it clear that they won't send Team India to Pakistan, where the tournament was scheduled to take place. Since then, a hybrid model was suggested by PCB chief where India can play their games outside Pakistan. However, he came up with the suggestion to take the tournament to be UK, drawing criticism from his predecessor Ramiz Raja.

"I was shocked to hear the Chairman PCB saying it would be great to see the Asia Cup being played at Lord’s. Is he mentally stable or not?," said Raja on his Youtube channel. The former PCB chairman said,"The whole point of Asia Cup before the World Cup was that the teams get familiar with the conditions of the sub-continent."

Ramiz added, "Another statement that made me angry was Mr Chairman telling the press they want to organise PSL season 9 in UAE because there are issues with taxation in Pakistan," said Raja. "At one hand you’re saying that Pakistan is safe for cricket regarding Asia Cup but on the other hand you are saying that PSL should not be conducted in Pakistan, how does that make sense?"

While PCB remains eager to host the Asia Cup in Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is looking to conduct the tournament at a neutral location before the ICC ODI World Cup, later this year in India.

However, well-played knocks from Gulsan Jha and Bhim Sharki saw the hosts through to a historic win as they put together an unbeaten stand of 96 runs to win the contest for Nepal.

Jha scored an unbeaten 67 off 84 deliveries while Sharki ended with an unbeaten 36 to be the architecture of the win as Nepal chased the target in 30.3 overs. Rohan Mustafa scalped two wickets for the UAE but was not enough to stop Nepal from securing their first-ever Asia Cup qualification.

Asia Cup 2023: Nepal secure historic first-ever qualification, join India and Pakistan in Group A

The Asia Cup 2023 edition is only months away but the mystery surrounding the host for the continental tournament continues. Pakistan have been named as the host for the tournament but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear, last year, that the Indian team won't travel to their neighbouring Asian country due to the strained political relations between both nations.

Since then, a lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023 edition. Pakistan cricket board (PCB) responded by saying that it won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, to take place soon after the Asia Cup. Later on, it was revealed that the PCB offered a hybrid model where India will play their games at another venue while Pakistan will host the remaining games.

But this could also cost Pakistan the hosting rights. As per Cricket Pakistan, Pakistan will lose the hosting rights even if a hybrid model comes into place. Thus, the PCB is prepared to see the cancellation of this year's event. The report in cricketpakistan.com has further revealed that Team India might play a five-nation tournament in the vacant window following Asia Cup's cancellation.

Coming to Pakistan's threat to boycott this year's ODI WC, it is highly unlikely that they won't participate. The Men in Green travelled to India for the 2016 T20 World Cup. They, however, might play their games in one or two venues only.

The Asia Cup was held last year, in the T20 format, in the UAE with Sri Lanka having the hosting rights. The Islanders won the tournament, beating Pakistan by 23 runs in the final.

India to feature in five-nation tournament with Asia Cup 2023 unlikely before ODI World Cup: Report

A lot has been said and written about the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the continental tournament and remain firm on their stance. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are also adamant to host the event and many of their former cricketers have suggested for the Men in Green to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if their Asian neighbours do not visit them for Asia Cup.

Recently, multiple reports have suggested that talks are on for India to play their games elsewhere while Pakistan can continue to host the whole tournament. Amid all this, Pakistan legend Javed Miandad has come out with an absurd remark on the entire matter.

"Forget security. We believe that agar maut aani hai toh aani hai. Zindagi aur maut toh allah ke haath mein hai..(If death is your destiny, it will come for sure. Life and death are in the hands of the Almighty)," Miandad said in the podcast hosted by Nadir Ali.

"We will not lose our hosting rights. Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this," Sethi added.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for this year's Asia Cup. It is set to be held in September ahead of this year's ODI WC in India, in October-November.

'Forget security...': Wait, what? Javed Miandad makes ABSURD remark on India's reluctance to tour Pakistan

A lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023. While Pakistan are the originals host for the showpiece event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced last year that Team India won't travel to their neighbouring country (due to both nations' strained political relation). Since then, a lot of speculations have been raised with regard to where the continental tournament will be held, which is set to take place in September ahead of this year's ODI World Cup in India.

Firstly, it was said that the tournament will move to UAE with Pakistan to remain as the hosts. Last year, Sri Lanka remained the host but the competition was held in the UAE. However, multiple reports suggested that a hybrid model will be followed for Asia Cup, with India to play their encounters elsewhere. Now, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has shared his firm stance on Asia Cup hosting rights.

'Pakistan will not accept any...': PCB chief Najam Sethi's FIRM STANCE on Asia Cup 2023 hosting rights

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are at loggerheads over the venue of two marquee events to be played this year - Asia Cup in September 2023 in Pakistan and ICC ODI World Cup in India after that. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) too threatened to pull back from travelling to India for the ICC ODI World Cup.

Amid the tussle, media outlet, ESPNCricinfo has reported that a neutral venue is being discussed as a possibility for the matches involving the Indian cricket team. A lot of former Pakistan player, including Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar, however, have asked India to travel to their country for the Asia Cup 2023.

Imran Nazir, another former Pakistan player, meanwhile, has given a bizarre statement, saying India won't come to Pakistan as they are afraid of losing.

Speaking on Nazir Ali podcast, Imran said, "There is no security reason. Just look at how many teams have been to Pakistan. Forget A teams, even Australia visited. These are all just cover-ups. The truth is that India won't come to Pakistan [for the Asia Cup] because they are afraid of losing. Security is just an excuse. Come and play cricket. When you start playing politics, there is no way back."

Notably, Imran was part of the Pakistan squad which lost the inaugural ICC World T20 tournament in 2007 in a thrilling final. Nazir's career spanned from 1999-2012, during which the opening batsman played eight Tests, 79 ODIs and 25 T20Is for his country.

In the recent past, many teams have travelled to Pakistan, most notable among them is Australia, which took part in a three Test series in the Asian country. Apart from them, England players too travelled to Pakistan for a limited-overs series.

India and Pakistan, now just face off each other in the ICC tournaments only, after having severed cricketing ties in 2012/13 due to the unstable political situation between the two countries.

'They are afraid...': Ex-Pak batsman's BIZARRE claim over India not travelling to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023

The dark cloud on India’s potential venues in the Asia Cup 2023 can finally be lifted as the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has proposed to allocate India to a neutral venue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India and Pakistan Board (PCB) are said to be moving swiftly towards brokering a resolution that could have both teams playing their tournament matches against each other outside Pakistan.

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place in September and will see both India and Pakistan grouped together. The two arch-rivals are set to meet at least once while there could be potential two more meetings between the sides, including the final. India who last visited the terror-affected nation in 2008 are determined not to visit Pakistan despite them being the host.

Neutral venue on agenda

While India won’t be visiting Pakistan, they are likely to play their matches at a neutral venue including the headline clash against the hosts. The proposed neutral venues include Oman, UAE and Sri Lanka. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, England could also serve as an alternative if both BCCI and PCB agree to take the Asia Cup outside Asia.

The Asia Cup 2023 will be played in a 50-over format with the tournament lasting for 13 days. India and Pakistan are grouped together while defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are paired in the other group.

Committee to decide Asia Cup schedule

As it stands, a small working group has been formed with the brief of creating a schedule and travel plan agreeable to all participating countries as well as the broadcaster before a final call is taken. The weather is likely to play a key role in determining the second venue outside of Pakistan, though there will be keenness among the Asian venues to host high-profile India-Pakistan games.

The Asia Cup has recently developed a tradition to get hosted in a neutral venue with UAE being the likely option. Last year Sri Lanka were unable to host the Asia Cup due to political and financial crisis while India also had to relinquish hosting the tournament in 2018 with the political tension between them and Pakistan. This year could be no different as India try to conquer the continental crown while a bigger prize in the form of the ODI World Cup also awaits in October.

Asia Cup 2023: Premier tournament to stay in Pakistan, but India likely to play at THIS neutral venue

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2013. Ever since the political relations between both countries hit an all-time low, the two heavyweights only square off during multi-nation or ICC events. The Asia Cup 2023 edition is just six months away but there is no host for the continental event ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the forthcoming edition. Since then, it is understood that the tournament will once again be held at a neutral venue. However, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has lashed out at BCCI's stance.

'Why is India worried about security?'

In a press conference, Najam Sethi said, "I have kept my options open because when all teams are coming to Pakistan and have no issues with security. Then why is India worried about security? In the same way, we can also have security concerns over sending our team to India for the World Cup and I will be bringing this to the table at the coming meetings."

"Obviously we don’t support this stance (by India) because we want to hold the Asia Cup and remember it is not just about the Asia Cup and World Cup it is also about the Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan."

"I had sought advice from the government and the situation is that we have to go by what our patron-in-chief tells us to do. If he says go and play in World Cup even if India doesn’t come for Asia Cup, what can we do? If he says don’t go it is a similar situation for us," Sethi further added.

Currently, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition is being held in Pakistan. The tournament faced a big hurdle following the Karachi terror attack but has continued uninterrupted.

The last time Pakistan travelled to India for a bilateral series was in 2013 whereas their last visit overall was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, India have not visited their Asian neighbours since 2008. It remains to be seen who will host the Asia Cup as India remain adamant about not travelling to Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if their neighbours do not turn up for the continental tournament in September 2023.

'Teams are coming to Pak & have no security issues, then why is...': PCB chief on BCCI's Asia Cup stance

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pondering over giving much-required rest to star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf to manage workloads ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup later this year. As per the latest report in ESPNcricinfo, PCB might rest the trio for the upcoming Afghanistan T20Is and the New Zealand T20Is that follow.

Following the latest selection committee meeting in which workload management of several top players was one of the topics for discussion, the possibility of bringing in new players and resting the big names grew big time.

Considering the amount of cricket that these three players have played across all formats (including international and domestic) since the start of January 2021 - Rizwan (150), Babar (127) and Haris (125), giving them rest ahead of the second half of the year looks like a viable option.

Meanwhile, with this step comes another problem – the captaincy one, as Babar is an all-format skipper, and not having him for nearly eight T20 matches (three against Afghanistan and five against New Zealand), meaning the appointment of a new skipper. While talks in the PCB have suggested that Shadab Khan is looked up to as a potential option, the board is also keen on getting ace seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead the Pakistan's T20I side in Babar’s absence. As reported by the same publication, PCB is believed to have approached him for the role early this year.

Returning from the knee injury that saw him missing major part of last year’s cricket including the home series against England and New Zealand, the 22-year-old Afridi is not bad for an option given his credentials in the PSL lately.

With the limited experience of leading his team Lahore Qalandars in around 22 matches so far, Afridi had led to their maiden PSL title in 2022 and under his tutelage this time also, they have reached the playoffs.

Though no confirmation on the same is out yet, a decision around this call will be taken anytime soon.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action last September 2022. Bumrah's back issues have persisted for quite some time and the speedster underwent back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand. The 29-year-old's absence from the 22-yard cricket strip has surely been a cause of concern for Team India and their loyalists. Now as per reports, Bumrah has had successful surgery but his recovery period is a lengthy affair, which will rule him out of action for at least six months.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Bumrah is unlikely to play cricket till August. Thus, this will keep him out of action for IPL 2023, ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, Asia Cup 2023. Nonetheless, there remains some hope and optimism about his chances of featuring in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, to be held later this year in India.

It is to be noted that Bumrah was under the care of Dr. Rowan Schouten, a noted orthopedic surgeon attached to the Forte Orthopaedics Hospital in Christchurch. The doctor has previously also treated a few known cricketers such as Australian pace duo James Pattinson and Jason Behrendorff, and English seamer Jofra Archer.

Bumrah's absence for such a long period is surely a big dent to Team India, and the Mumbai Indians (MI). At present, the Rohit Sharma-led side is gearing up for the fourth and final Test versus Australia, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022/23 edition, with the series interestingly poised at 2-1 in India's favour. The final Test will be held in Ahmedabad, starting on March 09 (Thursday).

If India emerge on top, they will not only win the series but also confirm a place in the WTC final. Australia have already qualified courtesy their Indore Test win.

Jasprit Bumrah back surgery update! Pacer to be out of action for six months post surgery in NZ: Report

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of international cricket last September 2022 due to his back issues. He missed Asia Cup 2022 and didn't feature in all the games in the India-Australia home T20Is before eventually being ruled out of the home South Africa T20Is, T20 World Cup 2022 and the rest of 2022. Firstly, he was expected to return for the India-Sri Lanka white-ball home series (having been named in the ODI squad as well) but was not deemed fit. The Indian cricket fans expected him to be fit for the last two Tests versus Australia, after missing the first two, but he is well and truly out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

As per reports, Bumrah is set to miss IPL 2023 and ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final if India qualifies. In addition, there are chances of him missing the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC ODI World Cup, to be held later this year in India.

As per a report in PTI, where they quoted a source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Bumrah is unlikely to make a comeback in the next six months. He is yet to fully recover from his back injury and now there is no clarity on his participation in the Asia Cup and ICC ODI World Cup. Thus, Bumrah might take another six months to make a comeback in the national side.

Bumrah has not been a regular in Team India since the start of 2022. He has appeared in five Tests and an equal number of ODIs and T20Is apart from featuring in all 14 matches for his IPL franchise, the Mumbai Indians since 2022. With his prolonged absence, both Team India and MI fans will miss him on the 22-yard cricket strip.

Indian fans, look away! After IPL & WTC final, Jasprit Bumrah also doubtful for Asia Cup and ODI WC: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) versus Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) row has been much-talked about with regard to the Asia Cup 2023 edition. This year's continental tournament, to be held in the 50-over format, was scheduled to be played in Pakistan but BCCI have refused to send Team India to their neighbouring country. In the recently-held Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Bahrain, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that they will not get government clearance to send the national side to Pakistan -- due to Indo-Pak's strained political relations -- and urged other boards to understand their situation.

While BCCI have made its stance clear, PCB have also threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup -- to be held in India -- later this year. In all likelihood, the BCCI-PCB row won't end anytime soon and it has become a huge talking point. The continental tournament is likely to be held in a different country, but PCB will remain the hosts, and a final call on the venue will be taken next month. Before that, former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi reacted to the whole controversy and feels even ICC won't be able to do anything if BCCI remain firm on not sending India to Pakistan.

Speaking on Samaa TV, Afridi said, "If anyone is unable to stand on his own feet and then the decision to make such strong calls is not easy. They have to look at plenty of things. India agar aankhe dikha raha hain (If India is threatening), or taking such strong stance, then they have made themselves that strong, hence they are being able to talk like this, otherwise they wouldn’t have the courage. At the end it’s making yourself strong and then take decisions."

Afridi further opined, "I have no idea, will India visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup? Will we boycott the ODI World Cup in India? But we need to take a stand at some point or the other. In this case ICC’s role becomes crucial, they should come forward, but let me say it even ICC won’t be able to do anything in front of BCCI."

At the end it’s making yourself strong and then take decisions." Also Read: Thought something positive would come out: Babar Azam on his 'this too shall pass' tweet for Virat Kohli Afridi further opined, "I have no idea, will India visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup? Will we boycott the ODI World Cup in India? But we need to take a stand at some point or the other. In this case ICC’s role becomes crucial, they should come forward, but let me say it even ICC won’t be able to do anything in front of BCCI." 'ICC won’t be able to do anything': Afridi reacts to BCCI's refusal to send India to Pakistan for Asia Cup

In response to the latest reports of Pakistan planning to boycott the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India if the venue for the 2023 Asia Cup is changed, ace Test spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come up with a solution. It was during September last year when Pakistan was allotted the hosting rights of 2023 Asia Cup, but it escalated quickly after the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah got appointed as new the head of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC), and in October said that owing to the current diplomatic relations between both countries, India will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

So these meant two things – either the venue will be changed or India will opt to pull out of the multi-team tournament. In both cases, Pakistan had put forward their counter response saying if either of this happens then the PCB will boycott the 50-over World Cup in India, scheduled for later part of the year. Ramiz Raja, who was earlier replaced by Najam Sethi as the PCB’s new boss, vouched for the same while during ACC’s latest meeting in Bahrain the past week, Sethi is believed to have echoed Raja’s words to Jay Shah and other members of the council too. A final decision on the change in Asia Cup venue will be taken in the ACC's next meeting in March.

"The ACC had a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines and any other specifics with a view to ensuring the success of the tournament. An update on the matter would be taken on the next ACC Executive Board Meeting to be held in March 2023," the ACC said in its statement after the meeting.

Meanwhile, Ravi Ashwin also shared his thoughts on the same saying this tussle is nothing new, and even came up with a solution if the Asia Cup venue is changed.

"Asia Cup was supposed to take place in Pakistan. But India has announced that if it takes place in Pakistan, then we won't be participating. If you want us to participate, then do change the venue. But we would have seen this happen many times, right? When we say Asia Cup won't go to their place, they will say that they will also not come to our place. However, I think that is not possible,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Suggesting that Dubai should now be overlooked as the neutral venue as a lot of games have already been played there, Ashwin suggested Sri Lanka could also be looked up to as an option, and instead he’d rather be happy if this happens.

“The final call might be that the Asia Cup might be moved to Sri Lanka. This is important in lead-up to the 50-over World Cup. Many tournaments have taken place in Dubai. I would also be pleased if it is moved to Sri Lanka,” Ashwin added.

'India can go to hell...' - Javed Miandad bashes ICC, BCCI over Asia Cup venue change rumours

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Najam Sethi is believed to have spoken to BCCI secretary Jay Shah after his recent comments on moving the Asia Cup 2023 out of Pakistan were made public. "Sethi has made his stance very clear (to Shah) and he went to Bahrain after meeting Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif last Tuesday. PCB chief Najam Sethi tells BCCI secretary Jay Shah, 'If Asia Cup is moved out of Pakistan then...'

On Thursday (January 05), Asian Cricket Council chief, and BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah announced the cricketing calendar for 2023 and 2024. In a tweet, he wrote, "Presenting the @ACCMedia1 pathway structure & cricket calendars for 2023 & 2024! This signals our unparalleled efforts & passion to take this game to new heights. With cricketers across countries gearing up for spectacular performances, it promises to be a good time for cricket."

However, Shah's announcement didn't please Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi. He, thus, took a dig at ACC chief for 'for unilaterally presenting ACC structure and calendars 2023-24' and wrote in response, "Thank you Jay Shah for unilaterally presenting ACC structure and calendars 2023-24 especially relating to Asia Cup 2023 for which Pakistan is the event host. While you are at it, you might as well present structure and calendar of our PSL 2023! A swift response will be appreciated."

The ACC, in a statement, has now called Sethi's claims baseless and revealed that they had already emailed the PCB about the calendar of Asian cricket on December 22. "It has come to our knowledge that PCB Chairman Mr. Najam Sethi has made a comment on the ACC President unilaterally taking the decision on finalising the calendar and announcing the same. The ACC wants to clarify that it has followed established due process. The calendar was approved by its Development Committee and Finance & Marketing Committee in a meeting held on December 13th, 2022," the ACC said.

Sethi further opined, "Earlier also Mr Jay Shah gave a statement in which my predecessor Mr Ramiz Raja was not happy with that and expressed disappointment. He announced before that we (India) won't play against Pakistan in Pakistan." He added, "So the thing is on one side you want Pakistan to come and play the World Cup (2023) in India. ACC slams Najam Sethi after PCB chief's dig at Jay Shah for announcing cricket calendar for 2023 & 2024

Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah -- also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief -- confirmed that this year's Asia Cup will be at a neutral venue as India won't travel to Pakistan -- where the edition is scheduled to be held. It raised eyebrows and saw the then Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja lash out at Shah.

A lot was said and written as Pakistan have threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if the Asia Cup is held at a neutral venue. Many also backed India's stance of not touring Pakistan, following the 2008 Mumbai blasts, whereas some felt Shah shouldn't have spoken about the Asia Cup when addressing the media at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October.

On Thursday (January 05), ACC chairman Shah released the calendar for 2023 and 2024. He tweeted, "Presenting the @ACCMedia1 pathway structure & cricket calendars for 2023 & 2024! Later, Sethi also slammed Shah in an exclusive interaction with Sports Tak. In the interview, he slammed BCCI saying 'it is an independent board' and not reliant on the government to finalise whether to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and feels if India doesn't want to visit their neighbouring country for the continental tournament, Pakistan also have a right to ask for the ODI World Cup to be held elsewhere.

BCCI is an independent board but ours (PCB) is linked to the government. So definitely we have to take many permissions from the government but the BCCI considers itself as an independent and private unit then such type of politics isn't necessary." He stated, "What is neutral venue? Why should we host our tournament in a neutral country? Let's play the 2023 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at a neutral venue in Australia then."

Sethi asserted, "Earlier also Mr Jay Shah gave a statement in which my predecessor Mr Ramiz Raja was not happy with that and expressed disappointment. He announced before that we (India) won't play against Pakistan in Pakistan." He added, "So the thing is on one side you want Pakistan to come and play the World Cup (2023) in India. On the other end, you say we don't want to go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. Tomorrow when the Champions Trophy will be played in Pakistan, won't you play that as well?."

While the Asia Cup has been confirmed to be held in September, there is nothing official regarding which country will host the event. Moreover, Pakistan have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, if they are deprived of hosting rights for the continental event. Hence, some big decisions are on the way with regard to both events.

Pakistan are also scheduled to host the 2025 Champions Trophy. Hence, a lot will depend on how things pan out this year before the next CT, i.e. regarded as a mini version of the WC.

'You want Pakistan to come for ODI WC, but don't want to visit us for Asia Cup?' PCB chief slams Jay Shah

On Thursday (January 05), the Asian Cricket Council chairman and BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah released the calendar for 2023 and 2024, confirming that the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition will be held in September. Hence, the marquee continental tournament will take place in the subcontinent -- with no confirmation regarding the hosts -- ahead of this year's ODI World Cup in India.

Thus, India and Pakistan's rivalry will resume at the Asia Cup. In 2022, both sides faced each other thrice and produced thrilling ties each and every time. India and Pakistan met twice in the Asia Cup, with both winning and losing once, before Rohit Sharma & Co. edged past Babar Azam's Men in Green by four wickets in a riveting T20 World Cup 2022 encounter, at the MCG, Melbourne, on October 23.

Asia Cup to be held in September before ODI World Cup, confirms ACC chairman Jay Shah

Ramiz Raja was recently removed as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. His stint was a controversial one with New Zealand withdrawing from their tour of Pakistan in September 2021 just before the tour opener, whereas England cricket team also followed suit. While Australia toured and England also followed suit, with the Kiwis currently in Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs, Team Pakistan also had a mixed run -- ending second in Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022 -- before losing their first-ever Test series on home soil (against England).

Following the England Tests, Ramiz was ousted as the PCB chief. During his tenure, he spoke a lot against Indian cricket and often slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). All hell broke loose when Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that India won't travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup and the continental tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

In reply, Ramiz slammed the BCCI and also went onto claim that Pakistan won't travel to India for the ODI World Cup, later next year, if the Asia Cup is moved out of Pakistan.

Speaking on Duniya News, the 60-year-old Ramiz has once again lashed out at the BCCI. He has urged the new PCB management to not fulfil each and every demand of the BCCI and show some leadership, which he claims was evident during his stint.

He said, "One positive from my stint as a chairman was that I provided leadership. If you remember, New Zealand had left, and we told them that what you did was unfair. The England team refused to come; we spoke with them, following which they played 7 T20Is instead of 5, two extra. The ECB staff visited Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium; they came to my office and apologised. Similarly, Australia also visited."

Kya hum har cheez unki mante jayenge?" (Are we servants of India just because they are a world power in cricket? Should we listen to everything they say?)," Ramiz questioned.

The former Pakistan captain further believes that Pakistan is moving in the right direction and the current crop of players, and fans, should be respected by everyone and no one has a right to move Asia Cup out of the country. Ramiz added, "The Pakistan cricket team is enjoying a great run; you have a good fan following; you have superstars, so please give your team and fans the respect they deserve. There should be a decision on the matter, as the tournament was given to Pakistan, so how can it be shifted to a neutral venue without consulting us or the ACC members."

'Are we servants of India just because they are a world power?' - Ramiz Raja slams BCCI over Asia Cup 2023 row

Pakistan’s cricket board chief Ramiz Raja has again insisted that Pakistan will not compromise on the whole situation of hosting Asia Cup next year if India continue to persist on their stance of not travelling to Pakistan. The ACC had earlier granted Pakistan the hosting rights for Asia Cup 2023, and now, with people close to the BCCI and the Indian government claiming that India might not go to Pakistan for the same, the venue could well be changed.

Speaking for the nth time on this matter, Ramiz said if the venue for the Asia Cup is shifted elsewhere, Pakistan is not keen on travelling to India for next year’s 50-over World Cup or for any tournament for that matter.

In a chat with Michael Atherton for Sky Sports on day 2 of the ongoing Multan Test between Pakistan and England, Ramiz said, “We don't want to really go there but it's just that the fans want us to react. The fans are absolutely bitter because of what India's narrative has been regarding India-Pakistan. I think there's a government policy and I've got no idea whether they'll come or not," he said. "The Asia Cup would mean a great deal to the fans, it's a multi-nation tournament. We will resist."

As India and Pakistan only compete in ICC related tournaments or in the Asia Cups, the fans are deprived of watching these two arch-rivals play in a bilateral series for a long time now. The last time both teams squared off outside of the ICC events was during the 2012-13 when Pakistan came to India for the white-ball series.

"I'm all for India-Pakistan contests, I've said this on record. I absolutely love the fans, and they like us as well - Pakistan has become a brand in international cricket, the players have got fan following in India, and I know that the second most watched team in India after India is Pakistan, so they take interest in our development," Raja said.

He added, "We want to go and play, but the fact is it has to be on equal terms. You can't be subservient to a certain cricket board. We've survived without India now for a good number of years. Pakistan have looked at the scales of economy in-house and somehow have survived extremely well."

As of now anything related to the change in venue for the Asia Cup next year is not announced.

‘We don’t really want to go there...’ PCB chief Ramiz Raja not ready to compromise on Asia Cup stance

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ramiz Raja said that Pakistan could pull out of the 2023 Asia Cup if their hosting rights are withdrawn on account of India not travelling to that country. In October, the Indian Cricket Board Secretary had said that next year Asia Cup will be held at a neutral venue as India could not travel to Pakistan.

Pakistan could pull out of 2023 Asia Cup if tournament shifted out of country: PCB Chief Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief, Ramiz Raja has cleared that if Pakistan loses the hosting right or if the event is hosted anywhere other than Pakistan, they will consider pulling out of the tournament. Speaking to the media ahead of Pakistan’s Test against England in Rawalpindi, Ramiz said Pakistan didn’t plead for the hosting rights of next year’s Asia Cup. He further said if India remain stern on their stance of not traveling to Pakistan, so be it; but if the tournament moves out of the country for any reason, Pakistan could consider not playing it.

"It's not as if we don't have hosting rights and we're pleading to host it," Ramiz told media ahead of the Pakistan-England Test in Rawalpindi. "We won the rights fair and square. If India doesn't come, they won't come. If the Asia Cup gets taken away from Pakistan, maybe we're the ones that pull out."

With India and Pakistan not playing any bilateral series owing to the political situation in both countries, these arch-rivals only face off in the ICC events or Asia Cup. This year, three India vs Pakistan matches took place, twice in Asia Cup, which was held in the UAE, and once at the MCG during the T20 World Cup where India won by five wickets.

Commenting on the issues relating to bilateral cricket and hosting great teams in Pakistan so far, Ramiz said, “We've shown we can host great teams. I can understand issues relating to bilateral cricket, but the Asia Cup is a multi-nation tournament, almost as big as the World Cup for the Asian bloc.

"Why give it to us in the first place and then make all those statements about India not travelling to Pakistan? I accept that India won't come because the government won't allow them to come - fine. But to take the Asia Cup away from the host on that basis isn't right."

Pakistan currently is hosting England for a home Test series for the first time in 17 years while India is in Bangladesh for the ODIs and Tests.

If Asia Cup 2023 is moved out of Pakistan, we might consider pulling out as well- PCB chief Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief Ramiz Raja has issued an outright warning to BCCI. The former World Cup winner, on a recent chat on Urdu News, said if the BCCI won’t allow its players to travel to Pakistan next year for the Asia Cup then Pakistan will also not travel to India for the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

Since the time the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) granted Pakistan the rights to host the 2023 Asia Cup, there have been numerous speculations going around in regard to India opting to not travel to Pakistan for security reasons. However, as of now neither the board nor anyone closely associated with the board has commented on the matter.

But just going by the speculations that the event will not go ahead in Pakistan as planned, the PCB chief commented on the matter. He rather issued a warning to BCCI claiming Pakistan will stick to its stance of boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India next year if what he or the board fear happens.

Ramiz Raja even said if Pakistan doesn’t travel to India for the 50-over World Cup, who will watch the mega tournament?

“If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja has told Urdu News.

The board chief further said the PCB will continue to adopt an aggressive approach, adding Pakistan’s improved performance recently is speaking for them now.

"We will adopt an aggressive approach. Our team is showing performance. I've always said we need to improve the economy of Pakistan cricket, and that can only happen when we perform well. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, we beat India. We beat India in the T20 Asia Cup. In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion-dollar economy team twice."

Meanwhile, Pakistan this year has hosted Australia for a full tour while teams like West Indies and England travelled to the Asian country for their respective tours as well. New Zealand is also in line to return to Pakistan for the 2 Tests and 3 ODIs, starting December 26th.

In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion-dollar economy team twice." ‘Play Asia Cup in Pakistan else...’- PCB chief Ramiz Raja issues warning to BCCI

India and Pakistan played a humdinger of a clash in the ongoing Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, at the iconic MCG, Melbourne. In front of a jam-packed stadium, Rohit Sharma-led India beat Pakistan on the final ball of the contest to emerge on top by four wickets.

Opting to bowl first, India restricted Babar Azam & Co. for 159 for 8 in 20 overs, with Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya chipping in with three-fers each. In reply, India were tottering at 31 for 4 before Virat Kohli's masterclass (82 not out off 53 balls) and Hardik's 37-ball 40 took India past the finsh line. After the stupendous success of the Indo-Pak face-off, former Aussie all-rounder Simon O’Donnell called the match “extraordinary” and made a big claim.

"That [their T20 World Cup clash] was extraordinary. That game itself is the one that's held the tournament up so far, people keep referring back to it. There were 90,000 at a neutral venue, there was extraordinary emotion, the scenes of the game, the tightness of the game, the pressure," O'Donnell recalled the epic encounter while speaking on SEN Radio.

Discussions are on for India-Pakistan Test in Australia: Former Aussie all-rounder makes big claim

After BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) chief, stated that India won't be travelling to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, it has led to a huge outrage in the Pakistan cricket fraternity. Several former Pakistan cricketers have slammed the BCCI's decision to take the Asia Cup to a neutral venue. Shahid Afridi had earlier taken to his official Twitter handle to criticise BCCI and has once again come hard on their recent remarks.

Afridi said on ABP News,"Yahan pe BCCI ne thoda bachkana harqat ki hai. Thoda time le lete, koi baat nahi agar decision unhe yahi lena tha World Cup k baad le lete. India-Pakistan ka World Cup ka match, usse pahle is tarike ka bayan dena mere khayal se jaldbaazi thi. Hamesha hamare relation ko cricket ne achchha banaya hai. I can clearly recall how the Indian team was welcomed in Pakistan in 2003-04 and we also received a warm welcome we went there. The more India and Pakistan play, the better their relations will be)."

Earlier, the former Pakistan all-rounder and captain had tweeted saying, "When excellent camaraderie has been established between the two sides in the past 12 months that has created feel-good factor in the countries, why BCCI Secy will make this statement on the eve of #T20WorldCup match? Reflects lack of cricket administration experience in India."

Following Shah's remarks, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had also threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup, which will be held later next year in India. A final call on the 50-over Asia Cup will be taken later this year. However, it is unlikely that Pakistan will get to host the continental tournament. Pakistan had last hosted the mega event in 2008, when Sri Lanka beat India in the final, and that was also Men in Blue's last visit to their neighbouring country.

They gave a childish statement: Shahid Afridi once again slams BCCI's decision on Asia Cup 2023

Jay Shah's revelation on the Asia Cup 2023 edition has sparked a huge controversy. After BCCI'S Annual General Meeting (AGM), on Tuesday (October 18) in Mumbai, Shah commenced his second innings as the board's secretary whereas Roger Binny succeeded Sourav Ganguly to become the new chief.

After the AGM, Shah -- who is also Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) -- revealed that the next year's Asia Cup won't be held in Pakistan as India can't travel to the neighbouring country due to the strained political relations between both nations. Hence, he confirmed that a neutral venue will once again host the Asia Cup, as was the case during this year's edition (held in the UAE with eventful winners Sri Lanka as hosts).

Since then, Pakistan's former cricketers and even their board PCB have strongly reacted to the ACC chief's claims. Now, veteran keeper-batter Kamran Akmal also joined the bandwagon and has even suggested Team Pakistan to boycott India at all levels, including the upcoming T20 World Cup clash on October 23 (Sunday) at the MCG, Melbourne.

“I believe Jay Shah’s statement was unexpected, and since he attended the Pakistan-India game during this year’s Asia Cup, he should reserve politics for his opposition and avoid dragging it into sports,” Kamran told ARY news.

He added, "Asia Cup should only be hosted in Pakistan and if that does not happen then Pakistan should not play against India at any level, be it ICC events’ matches, Asia Cup matches, or even their match on October 23."

PCB responds to ACC President's statement:

“The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment of yesterday’s comments made by the ACC President Mr Jay Shah with regards to shifting of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any thoughts towards their long-term consequences and implications."

"After having presided over the ACC meeting during which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with an overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members, Mr Shah’s statement of shifting of the ACC Asia Cup has clearly been made unilaterally. This is contrary to the philosophy and spirit for which the Asian Cricket Council was formed in September 1983 – a united Asian cricket body to safeguard the interests of the its Members and organise, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia."

The statement added, "The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.

“The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. As such, the PCB has now requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting of its Board as soon as practically possible to discuss this important and sensitive matter.”

As of now, a venue for Asia Cup 2023 edition is expected to be finalised in the near future whereas India are set to host next year's ODJ World Cup. However, Pakistan's participation is doubtful following PCB's reaction.

Amid BCCI vs PCB for Asia Cup, Kamran Akmal calls for Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup clash vs India

Following Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah's recent revelation, where he confirmed that India won't travel to Pakistan for 2023 Asia Cup and the continental tournament will take place at a neutral venue, the former Pakistan cricketers have lashed out at him. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also threatened to pull out of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is set to be held in India later next year.

Amid all this, sports minister and former BCCI chief Anurag Thakur has joined the bandwagon and reacted to PCB's official statement. While interacting with the media during the announcement of the Khelo India Youth Games on Thursday (October 20), Thakur said, "It’s BCCI’s issue and they will comment on it. India is a sporting powerhouse, where many World Cups have been played. The ODI World Cup will also be held next year in India and all big teams around the planet will participate in it. Because you can’t ignore India in any sport. India has contributed a lot to sports, especially cricket. So, the World Cup will be organised next year, and it will be a grand and historic tournament. The home ministry will take a decision as there are security concerns in Pakistan. It’s not just cricket. India is not in a position to listen to anyone. We will invite all countries for World Cup — those who want to come can come."

Sports minister Anurag Thakur gives blunt reply after PCB threatens to withdraw from 2023 ODI World Cup

The BCCI can't take a call on its own on whether the Indian team will travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup or not as it relies on the government to make such decisions, new Board president Roger Binny said on Thursday. Speaking at an event organised by Karnataka State Cricket Association here, Binny said the BCCI has not approached the government yet on travelling to Pakistan next year but eventually the central government will only decide on the matter.

"That is not BCCI's call. We need government's clearance to leave the country. Whether we leave the country or teams coming into the country, we need clearance.
"Once we get clearance from the government then we go with it. We can't make decision on our own. We have to rely on the government. We have not approached them yet," said World Cup winner Binny. The Asia Cup is scheduled to be played in Pakistan in September next year, ahead of the ODI World Cup in India.
Binny's comments came after BCCI secretary Jay Shah said the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan next year for the Asia Cup and will instead like to play the tournament at a neutral venue.

Earlier on Thursday, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said the Indian team will need clearance from the Home Ministry to travel to Pakistan. A 'disappointed' Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting. Referring to Shah's comment, the PCB had said that "such statements can spilt the Asian and international cricket communities" and impact Pakistan's visit to India for the 2023 World Cup. India haven't travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup, and after the Mumbai terror attack on November 26 that year, the scheduled bilateral series in early 2009 was cancelled.

Pakistan did travel to India for a short six-match white-ball series in 2012, but in the last 10 years, there hasn't been any bilateral cricket. The two teams have only played each other at various ICC and ACC events.

Travelling to Pakistan for Asia Cup not board's call, government will decide: BCCI chief Roger Binny

On Tuesday, (October 18), a major change in leadership took place at the BCCI with Roger Binny taking over as the board's 36th President, after Sourav Ganguly's exit. The former Indian captain had attained the top post in late 2019.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, however, resumed his second innings and made a massive claim while interacting with the reporters after the board's 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM). Shah, who is also Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) chief, revealed that the 2023 Asia Cup won't be held in Pakistan as India won't travel to their neighbouring country.

"The Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue. I am saying this as ACC President. We [India] can't go there [to Pakistan], they can't come here. In the past also, Asia Cup has been played at a neutral venue," Shah told the media.

Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reportedly threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India after the 50-over Asia Cup. Now, former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi joined the bandwagon and slammed Shah for his untimely comments.

When excellent comradery between the 2 sides in the past 12 months has been established that has created good feel-good factor in the 2 countries, why BCCI Secy will make this statement on the eve of #T20WorldCup match? Reflects lack of cricket administration experience in India

It is to be noted that Shah had made it clear that the ACC is yet to discuss the hosts for the 2023 Asia Cup but certainly ruled Pakistan out as the home country. He stated that the continental tournament will most likely be held at a neutral venue once again, as was the case for this year's edition. Here's what he said: When excellent comradery between the 2 sides in the past 12 months has been established that has created good feel-good factor in the 2 countries, why BCCI Secy will make this statement on the eve of #T20WorldCup match?
