India and Pakistan are set to lock horns on numerous occasions in the remainder of 2023. The two senior men's teams will meet in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, to kick off later this month in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, whereas the arch-rivals will also lock horns on October 14 in the league stage game during the 2023 ODI World Cup, which commences in India on October 05. Thus, there is already a lot of hype on the upcoming Indo-Pak encounters and former Indian spinner Anil Kumble shared some words of advice for Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. regarding the high-voltage games versus Babar Azam-led Men in Green.&nbsp;

During the Bengaluru launch of Amrit Mathur's book Pitchside on Tuesday (August 08), Kumble shed light on the Indo-Pak rivalry, recalled his playing days when the fans used to hype the clash immensely and also urged Team India to treat it as a normal match.&nbsp;

<h2>'Lose even to Kenya but not to Pakistan'</h2>

Kumble said, "In our times, the word was 'lose even to Kenya but not to Pakistan'. There was pressure and expectation on the players. That's how the matches between India and Pakistan are being played and the key is to treat it as just another match."

It is well-known that Kumble took a memorable 10 for 74 in India's 212-run win over Pakistan in the Delhi Test in 1999. Chasing 420, Pakistan were well-placed at one stage, at 101 for no loss, before the wily leg-spinner accounted for all the wickets and dismissed the visitors for a paltry 207.&nbsp;

Recalling his magical spell, the 52-year-old Kumble mentioned, "I did not go onto the field thinking of a 10-wicket haul, though that is the dream of any bowler. However, in the next Test match against Pakistan, the Asian Test Championship at Kolkata, I was struggling to take even one wicket. That is the game of cricket for you."

Speaking about the upcoming Indo-Pak encounters, they will lock horns on September 02, and potentially on September 10 and 17, in the 50-over Asia Cup. The tournament kicks off on August 30 in Pakistan. After that, they will meet on October 14 at Ahmedabad in the group stage of the ODI World Cup.&nbsp;

<h2>Pakistan eye continental glory</h2>

The two-time continental champions will have a decent task in hand going into the Asia Cup as they build momentum for the ODI World Cup. Azam’s side will play Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series before the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. The new selector's panel led by Inzamam-ul-Haq focused on key areas of the team that included a backup wicketkeeper.

There are three notable inclusions of Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, and Saud Shakeel in the team for the Afghanistan series. The trio will hope to perform better and improve their chances to feature in the ODI World Cup squad, although that remains a hurdle too far at the moment.

In a key exclusion, the selectors have opted not to risk youngster Ihsanullah as he recovers from injury. He remains on the sidelines for the national side despite being part of the New Zealand series earlier. Shan Masood is another notable absence from the New Zealand series having lost form at the wrong time of the year.

Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan announce 18-man squad led by Babar Azam; to kick off campaign against Nepal on Aug 30

Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin feels India are preparing Sanju Samson as a backup for KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are closing in on full fitness ahead of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue raised a lot of eyebrows for their constant experiments in the recent ODIs versus hosts West Indies.&nbsp;They shuffled their batting order and also rested the likes of regular skipper Rohit and Virat Kohli. With Rahul and Iyer's return still not confirmed, they even tried Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson in the middle. Thus, Ashwin commented on the batting experiments and feels India are preparing backups until Rahul and Iyer return.&nbsp;

<h2>'They are keeping different strategies...'</h2>

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, "Both (KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer) of them are coming out of injuries. I think they will return during the Asia Cup only. But who is the backup for either of them? If one of them is unable to return before the World Cup, and that's why they have tried out Sanju Samson. They also tried Axar Patel at No. 4. I think they are keeping different strategies for T20 and ODI formats."

Talking about Samson, the right-hander failed to get going in the rain-hit second and penultimate ODI but slammed an impressive 41-ball 51 in the series decider, where Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. won by 200 runs. However, Samson is yet to get going in the ongoing five T20Is.

Ashwin further commented on Tilak Verma, who made his India debut during the ongoing T20Is, in the Caribbean island. While India have lost two games on the trot, Tilak has been India's standout performer with the bat with scores of 39 (21) and 51 (41). On the Mumbai Indians' (MI) star batter, the 36-year-old Ashwin stated,&nbsp;"The emergence of Tilka Varma has made everyone take notice of him. He looked in imperious touch even on that slow pitch in the first T20I. His batting style looked very unlike for an Indian making his international debut. His game resembles a lot of Rohit Sharma. He sweats on the pull."

He added, "Generally, Indian batters won't set up to play the pull shot. They will find the answer later as they will have all the other shots. Pull shot is something they will develop. But his game looks like has a natural pull shot and sends the ball outside the boundary rope like an Australian."

Talking about India's preparations for the forthcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, in October-November, they are trying different combinations and giving varied roles to the available players whereas Rahul and Iyer are working hard to get fully fit and stage a comeback.&nbsp;

Asia Cup 2023: India vs Pakistan on Sep 2; summit clash on 17th in Colombo

Veteran Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal has decided to step down as the ODI captain almost two months before the start of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in India. Tamim, who reversed his retirement decision a day after announcing it earlier in July, will miss the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka owing to a recurring back injury.

The left-handed batter will now prepare for the home New Zealand ODI series, which starts on September 21.

Tamim is said to have conveyed his decision to step down as an ODI captain to Bangladesh Prime Minister on Thursday, following which he had extended discussions with BCB president Nazmul Hassan and cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus at Hassan's residence.

In his statement, Tamim revealed his back injury forced him to take the call at this crucial juncture, adding he is available to deliver as the player whenever the team needs him but cannot commit on leading the side given the uncertain nature of his recurring injury.

"I believe injury is an issue. I took an injection [on July 28], but it is like a hit or miss. I have told them [the board] about the problem. I have always helped the team over everything else. So keeping that in mind, stepping down is the best possible decision. I want to give my best as a player whenever the opportunity comes. I have spoken to the prime minister, and she understood," Tamim said.

<h2>‘His call (to step down) came as a shock’</h2>

Speaking on Tamim’s decision, Jalal said it came as shock for all, but understanding the reality surrounding it, Jalal revealed Tamim will undergo rehabilitation during the Asia Cup and aim for a comeback for New Zealand series and the World Cup in October-November.

"He (Tamim) has been suffering from an injury in his L4 and L5 in his back," Jalal said.

"Tamim has been in treatment for almost a year. He went abroad, consulted several doctors. Recently, he consulted a doctor in London.

"The diagnosis was that his pain is generating from L4 and L5 discs. He was given two injections. The second injection, given on July 28, relieved him of pain. He has been advised to rest for two weeks, till August 11, after which he will resume his rehab. But he can only return to the nets in another two weeks. By that time, we are leaving for Asia Cup, on August 26.

"If he undergoes surgery, returning [soon] will be very difficult. He is unlikely to do that, so we are expecting him to return for the New Zealand series,” Jalal added.

Tamim also echoed the exact words, saying, “I want to play the New Zealand series in the best possible shape. We could have rushed it for the Asia Cup, but we are opting against it. I am very hopeful that I will be available for the World Cup."

I have spoken to the prime minister, and she understood," Tamim said. ‘His call (to step down) came as a shock’ Speaking on Tamim’s decision, Jalal said it came as shock for all, but understanding the reality surrounding it, Jalal revealed Tamim will undergo rehabilitation during the Asia Cup and aim for a comeback for New Zealand series and the World Cup in October-November. I am very hopeful that I will be available for the World Cup." WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Former Australia great Glenn McGrath has urged India’s Jasprit Bumrah to change his fitness regime as he plans to return to the international fold after a shoulder issue. Bumrah, out of action from the international circuit, will be leading India for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. According to McGrath, Bumrah can prolong his career if he changes his regime and gives up on one format.

<h2>McGrath’s wise words</h2>

"He is exceptional, and he is unique. The way he bowls, his run-up, and his delivery stride are very unique. But his bowling action and the way he goes about it does put a lot of stress on his body, so he needs to stay strong. If he does that, he can play for quite a few years for India," McGrath told Sportstar.

The former World Cup winner also pointed out that fixture congestion is a big issue for fast bowlers as they struggle to cope with the demands. He has urged Bumrah to give up on one format that will help him maintain his body shape as the ODI World Cup nears in two months.

Glenn McGrath urges Jasprit Bumrah to change fitness plan, says 'if he does that, he can...'

Team India is now gearing up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While the Hardik Pandya-led India is involved in the five T20Is versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island, the ODI regulars are now focused on the continental showpiece event as it will be an ideal dress rehearsal before the home ODI World Cup, in October-November. Before the Asia Cup, Jasprit Bumrah was announced fit and has been named the captain for the three T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, to be held later this month. Now, as per a report in the Times of India, another batter is fit.

KL Rahul, star keeper-batter, is now fit and ready for Asia Cup duties. The stylish batter has been out of cricketing action since his injury in the latter half of IPL 2023. Since then, he missed India's WTC final -- versus Australia -- and the ongoing West Indies tour. With him being India's No. 5 and a reliable keeper, his return will be a massive boost for the Men in Blue.&nbsp;

Rahul has been sharing his fitness updates on social media platforms in the last few days, where he can be seen batting and keeping wickets at the nets. "The coaches and medical experts at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore are satisfied with Rahul's progress/recovery. He will be available for selection for the Asia Cup," a reliable source said.

Rahul suffered a thigh injury during the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s run in IPL 2023, where they finished fourth after losing in the eliminator to Mumbai Indians (MI). Apart from Rahul, Shreyas Iyer is also fighting hard to regain full fitness, however, he is still away from being in contention for the Asia Cup. As per the same report in the TOI, Iyer is likely to be unavailable and can be out of the continental tournament with a back problem that persists despite surgery.

While Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna, are set to make a comeback in the Ireland T20Is and there are strong reports of Rahul also recovering soon. Thus, Indian fans will hope for the trio to get some game time under their belt before the ODI World Cup and also wish for Iyer's speedy return.

Team India star batter-keeper KL Rahul 'fit' for Asia Cup: Report

The Indian pair of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are likely to miss the upcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka as the tournament comes too early for them. According to reports surfacing on Thursday, August 3, the duo is unlikely to be fully fit for the continental showpiece and won’t be considered as the deadline to announce the squad nears. However, both Rahul and Shreyas will look to make the ODI World Cup squad as the deadline to announce the squad for that event nears.

<h2>Rahul, Shreyas to miss Asia Cup</h2>

The Asia Cup 2023 will come too early for both batters, as per a report by Cricbuzz. They have been struggling with injury for a long time and recently posted rehabilitation videos on social media. Iyer missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) while Rahul missed the last leg of the premier competition. Iyer was set to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL but injury&nbsp;ruled him out. Nitish Rana would then lead the KKR side in Shreyas’ absence from the squad. Iyer last played for India in the Test series against Australia in March at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rahul was supposed to be in contention as well for the Asia Cup, but according to the latest National Cricket Academy (NCA) report, the continental showpiece comes early for him. Rahul’s absence will be a major blow for Team India. Although he has not been ruled out of the World Cup yet, his missing the Asia Cup could have big consequences on India’s batting line-up for the World Cup. He last played for India in March during the ODI series against Australia.

<h2>Consequence during the World Cup</h2>

If Rahul is ruled out of the World Cup, India will be left with no option but&nbsp;to field Ishan Kishan in the Playing XI. Currently, Rishabh Pant is not in contention for a return to the national side, while KS Bharat, the only other wicketkeeper option, is not being&nbsp;favoured for the ODI side. Rahul, who is India’s wicket-keeping option for World Cup, will need a timely recovery.

In the case of Rahul’s absence, Ishan remains the only viable option to feature with the gloves and has been a constant feature in the team.

Asia Cup 2023: KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer unlikely to be available due to fitness issues; eye ODI World Cup return

India recently won the three-match ODI series versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island, 2-1. Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue won the series opener, by five wickets, but they played a second-stringed side, with Rohit and Virat Kohli being rested, to lose the second and penultimate tie by six wickets. Despite the defeat, and heavy criticism for playing a second-stringed line-up, India again rested Rohit and Kohli and entered the third ODI with the series on the line.

However, the Hardik Pandya-led side came to their best in the finale and posted a mammoth 351/5. In reply, Shai Hope-led West Indies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs and lost&nbsp;by 200 runs in Trinidad, on Tuesday (August 01). Despite the series triumph, many critics slammed the Dravid-led Indian team management for not playing their regulars in the three ODIs with the 50-over World Cup only a few months away, to be held in India in October-November.&nbsp;

<h2>'Seriously don’t understand why this outrage'</h2>

Now, veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin has schooled Rohit-Dravid's critics. "India lost the second ODI, and immediately the trend in social media was - why so-and-so players played and why so-and-so players did not play. I seriously don’t understand why this outrage. Rohit and Virat didn’t play in the second ODI. Even in the first match, Rohit batted lower down the order. So the debate was around whether Rohit and Virat should have played," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

<h2>'The reason why we are favourites for ODI World Cup is the IPL'</h2>

Ashwin further pointed out, “Some of them were perplexed at how we lost to a team that didn’t even qualify for the World Cup. Many people think that India’s only job in international cricket is to win World Cup. The main reason why we consider ourselves favourites to win the World Cup is because of the IPL. ODI matches are very stressful. It will take at least two days for your body to recover. The first two matches in West Indies were played in a gap of 24 hours. Thus, there are more chances of you getting injured. Already we have so many players recovering at the NCA. Bumrah is back after a long hiatus. Prasidh Krishna is back too. So, we have so many injury problems. It seems like people are finding points to blame Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma just for the sake of it."

The 36-year-old Test specialist added,&nbsp;"They are trying different players now because they know what they went through during the last T20 World Cup. We didn’t have Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah, and we didn’t have many fast bowlers. That’s why we are trying different options before the ODI World Cup."

At present, the Hardik Pandya-led Indian T20I team is set to lock horns with West Indies in the five-match series opener on Thursday (August 03) in Trinidad. After the West Indies tour, Rohit-Dravid-led Indian team will gear up for the Asia Cup, in the ODI format, which will be an ideal dress rehearsal for the home WC. They will hope for the likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to be deemed fit sooner than later, with Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna set to comeback in next month's Ireland T20Is, to strengthen their line-up before the ODI showpiece event later this year.

'Many think India's only job is to win WCs': Ashwin schools Rohit-Dravid's critics, backs team experiments

Hardik Pandya-led India romped West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (Aug 1) to clinch the three-match series 2-1. With this win, India claimed their 13th successive ODI series versus the Windies since 2007. After the series win, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya credited his 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for a whirlwind knock in the series decider.

Opting to bat first, India once again rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik led the side that rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and Hardik's 52-ball 70 not out to post a mammoth 351 for 5. In reply, Shai Hope-led side only managed 151 in 35.3 overs to lose by a whopping 200-run margin.&nbsp;

Hardik's knock came at a good time for India as they continue to prepare for the Asia Cup and forthcoming ODI World Cup at home, in October-November. His last five scores were 7, 5, 40, 1 and 25. Thus, the 29-year-old came to his own in the series decider and led from the front. After the knock, he credited Kohli for a wonderful chat where the former Indian captain shared valuable inputs which helped Hardik.

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "I had a very wonderful chat with Virat a couple of days back, and the kind of input he gave me, he has seen me throughout the years. It's been almost seven or eight years of international cricket and he has seen me from day one. He had some pointers which really helped me. He just wanted me to spend some time on the crease and get used to the 50-over&nbsp;game as well because we have played so many T20 formats and yeah, that kind of stayed in my mind and I was just waiting for the opportunity. I'm really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me."

On Rohit and Kohli being rested, Hardik backed the Rahul Dravid-led team management's decision and said, "Virat and Rohit are a very integral part of the team. And, you know, obviously, this was very important for someone like Rutu to get a game or Axar to get a game because they've been playing cricket for so many years, they know how exactly all these situations have been. So kind of giving them the youngsters exposure and kind of making sure that if we want to check something, we have the opportunity to do it."

Hardik will now lead the side in the upcoming five T20Is versus the Windies in the Caribbean, starting on August 03.

I'm really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me." On Rohit and Kohli being rested, Hardik backed the Rahul Dravid-led team management's decision and said, "Virat and Rohit are a very integral part of the team. And, you know, obviously, this was very important for someone like Rutu to get a game or Axar to get a game because they've been playing cricket for so many years, they know how exactly all these situations have been. So kind of giving them the youngsters exposure and kind of making sure that if we want to check something, we have the opportunity to do it." Hardik will now lead the side in the upcoming five T20Is versus the Windies in the Caribbean, starting on August 03. IND vs WI: Hardik Pandya credits 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for his whirlwind knock in 3rd ODI

India lost the second and penultimate ODI to West Indies by six wickets as the visitors continued to experiment with their team combination in the three-match series. In the series opener, India banked on their middle and lower order, with regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being demoted in the batting line-up, to chase down a paltry 115. In the second ODI, India went without Rohit and Kohli as a second-string&nbsp;Indian team, under Hardik Pandya, managed only 181 to lose by six wickets.

After the defeat, many slammed the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led Indian think tank for their constant experiments with the home ODI World Cup only a few months away. Many former cricketers and experts believe India is tinkering too much with their line-up and remain confused with their team combination ahead of two marquee events, such as the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI WC. Prior to the third ODI's commencement, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja addressed the media and claimed that there is no confusion as Rohit-Dravid and the team management are sure about their team combination going ahead, especially for the Asia Cup.

"This is the series before the Asia Cup and World Cup, where we can experiment, we can try out new combinations. It will give us an idea about the team's balance, strengths and weaknesses," Jadeja told reporters on the eve of the series decider in Trinidad.

The 34-year-old Jadeja added, "Captain and team management know what combination they are going to play. There is no confusion at all. We have already decided what is going to be the combination in the Asia Cup, they have already decided that before. But it's more about trying out a particular player or batter at a batting position."

India will hope to win the three ODIs versus West Indies, who are not even part of the upcoming ODI WC in the subcontinent, on Tuesday (August 01). After this, India will gear up for Asia Cup, which kicks off in Pakistan next month, with the home ODI WC in October-November.

'We know our team combination for Asia Cup' - Jadeja on criticism of constant experiments in WI ODIs

Indian cricket team could be handed a major boost for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup as the side prepares for a big couple of months. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, July 21 released a medical update for KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer and Prasidh Krishna as they continue their rehabilitation. The BCCI also provided an update on Rishabh Pant as he too has made significant progress with his rehabilitation.

<h2>Bumrah, Rahul fit for Asia Cup?</h2>

“Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organise. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games,” read a release from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Bumrah has been out of the India side since September 2022 and has been struggling with a shoulder injury. He missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season and was not part of the Indian team that reached the semifinal of the T20 World Cup in 2022. Bumrah’s absence has been a major miss for India and his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.

Shreyas Iyer has also made steady progress that could see him join the Indian team for the Asia Cup. Iyer too missed the IPL 2023 season and was a major miss for Kolkata Knight Riders. KL Rahul, however, played at the initial stage of the IPL but was not available for the playoffs having met with an injury against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

<h2>Rishabh Pant making good progress</h2>

India could also have a major boost for the ODI World Cup as Rishabh Pant could be back in contention. Pant has not played for the Indian side since December 2022, when he met with a near-fatal accident.

“Rishabh Pant has made significant progress in his rehabilitation and has commenced batting as well as keeping in the nets. He is currently following a fitness programme designed for him which includes strength, flexibility and running,” the statement further added.

India will announce their Asia Cup squad in the coming days while the squad for the ODI World Cup will be out at the end of August. The deadline to announce the ODI World Cup squad is 31 August.

Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul continue steady rehab progress ahead of ODI World Cup; Rishabh Pant resumes batting

On Wednesday (July 19), the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the final schedule of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition. The forthcoming tournament will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the Island nation hosting a majority of games (nine out of 13). After the official announcement, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt opened up on the schedule and expressed his displeasure due to the lack of rest for Babar Azam-led Men in Green.&nbsp;

Talking about Pakistan, they will play the tournament opener versus Nepal on August 30 in Multan. They will then travel to Sri Lanka to face arch-rivals India, in Kandy, on September 02 before returning home to play their first game in Super Four -- if they qualify -- before going back to the Island nation. Thus, Butt has slammed the schedule for Team Pakistan and stated, 'We never cared about our players'.

“It's a very strange schedule. Pakistan are playing their first match in Pakistan, then they will travel to Sri Lanka for the second match. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will play their first match in their home, and when they have to travel to Pakistan for the second game, they have a 4-5 days gap,"&nbsp;Butt was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He further added, "Pakistan, who are originally the host nation, have only got two days gap. We never cared about our players."

Pakistan were initially set to host the whole tournament but when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear that they won't sent Team India to their neighbouring country -- citing security concerns -- the hybrid model came into existence. Thus, Sri Lanka -- who are the defending champions -- are hosting nine games whereas the Men in Green will only play host to four encounters.&nbsp;

At present, Babar &amp; Co. are involved in a two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka in the latter's backyard. On Thursday (July 20), Pakistan beat the Lankans by four wickets in the two-match Test series opener, in Galle, in pursuit of 131. The second and final Test kicks off on July 24 at the&nbsp;Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.

Asia Cup 2023 Full Schedule: IND vs PAK on Sept 2; Check date, groups, venue, fixture & more

After a lengthy delay, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has&nbsp;announced the final schedule of the Asia Cup 2023 on Wednesday (July 19). The forthcoming edition will be held in a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting four games, and Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka to be venues for nine matches, as the continental tournament will kick off on August 30 with the final scheduled to be played on September 17.&nbsp;

India, Pakistan and Nepal are in Group A whereas Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in Group B. The top two teams from both groups will proceed to the Super Four. The top two from the Super Four will then lock horns in the summit clash in mid-September. This time around, the tournament will be held in the ODI format -- mainly to serve as a dress rehearsal for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India in October-November. Ever since the fixtures were out, there is a lot of excitement among fans as many expect arch-rivals India and Pakistan to meet thrice in the upcoming edition.

Both sides will meet on September 02 and can possibly meet after eight days, on September 10, and also in the final. Ahead of his side's face-off versus India, Pakistan great Waqar Younis backed Babar Azam &amp; Co. to beat Rohit Sharma-led Team India.&nbsp;

"Play well as simple as that," advised Waqar -- while speaking at the Asia Cup trophy unveiling programme in Lahore on Wednesday&nbsp;-- Team Pakistan when asked about what should be their&nbsp;strategy for big games.

<h2>'I don't see any reason why they can't beat India'</h2>

On Pakistan's chances versus the Men in Blue, Waqar said, "In our time, we did not win many major tournaments against India. But the good thing is that these boys have started winning against India in big matches recently. That's a good sign. The monkey is off the back now. So, given the talent we have in our team, if we play to our potential, I don't see any reason why they can't beat India. It doesn't matter where they play. If we can beat them at The Oval (talking about the 2017 Champions Trophy where Pakistan thrashed India by 180 runs in the final), we can beat them anywhere. Talent is there, just go out there and play like we are tigers. Let's put it that way."

In Asia Cup 2022, played in the T20I format, India and Pakistan met twice with both teams winning a game each. Even during the last edition, many expected both sides to meet thrice but India bowed out in the Super Four whereas Sri Lanka beat Men in Green in the final by 23 runs.

After a lengthy delay, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced the final schedule of the Asia Cup 2023 on Wednesday (July 19). The forthcoming edition will be held in a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting four games, and Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka to be venues for nine matches, as the continental tournament will kick off on August 30 with the final scheduled to be played on September 17. Both sides will meet on September 02 and can possibly meet after eight days, on September 10, and also in the final. Ahead of his side's face-off versus India, Pakistan great Waqar Younis backed Babar Azam & Co. to beat Rohit Sharma-led Team India. "Play well as simple as that," advised Waqar -- while speaking at the Asia Cup trophy unveiling programme in Lahore on Wednesday -- Team Pakistan when asked about what should be their strategy for big games. Also read: Asia Cup 2023: India vs Pakistan on Sep 2 headlines final schedule; summit clash on 17th in Colombo 'I don't see any reason why they can't beat India' On Pakistan's chances versus the Men in Blue, Waqar said, "In our time, we did not win many major tournaments against India. Let's put it that way." In Asia Cup 2022, played in the T20I format, India and Pakistan met twice with both teams winning a game each. Even during the last edition, many expected both sides to meet thrice but India bowed out in the Super Four whereas Sri Lanka beat Men in Green in the final by 23 runs. It will be interesting to see if India and Pakistan square off thrice and which side ends as the winner of the six-team tournament in the subcontinent. Asia Cup 2023 draft schedule out: India vs Pakistan on September 2 in Sri Lanka

Ace India seamer Jasprit Bumrah is said to have almost regained complete fitness and is bowling at full throttle at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The latest reports suggest Bumrah is gradually increasing his workload and is in line to return to the side during next month's white-ball series against Ireland. Shreyas Iyer has also resumed batting.&nbsp;

Per a report in the Indian Express, Bumrah, who underwent back surgery in New Zealand in March early this year, completed his rehabilitation at the NCA last month and is now sending down eight to ten overs regularly. It is a big plus for the Indian Team, who dearly missed his services in mega tournaments and against big teams lately.

With earlier reports suggesting the selectors were looking to include the right-hand pacer in the Asia Cup 2023 squad, Bumrah's progression means he could return wearing the new Indian jersey sooner than expected. The Ajit Agarkar-led new selection committee will take a call on Bumrah's addition to the squad in the coming days.

During the home series against Australia in September last year, Bumrah suffered a back injury and got ruled out. This blow meant he missed the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia and remained on the sidelines even after that.

Though he got back in the reckoning for the Sri Lanka series earlier in January, a late reoccurrence of the strain in his back again ruled him out. He missed the IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians and didn't participate in the World Test Championship Final against Australia - which India lost.

<h2>Prasidh Krishna also recovering</h2>

Alongside Bumrah, fellow seamer Prasidh Krishna is also out of action since the Zimbabwe series in August last year due to a stress fracture in his back. While he also went under the knife earlier, the 27-year-old is recovering quickly and has resumed bowling.&nbsp;

The fast bowler might not regain full fitness before the Ireland series but could return to the XI for the Asia Cup, starting August 31.&nbsp;

If both Bumrah and Prasidh are deemed fit ahead of the Asia Cup, their inclusion will come as a boost for the side that for a long&nbsp;time now has relied on the shoulders of Mohammed Siraj and Shami.

Also, with Iyer resuming batting at the NCA, Team India can expect a bit of relief, considering they can back someone like Iyer to take up the crucial number four spot in the ODI side and deliver on the big&nbsp;stage.

Not during 2023 Asia Cup, seamer Jasprit Bumrah could return sooner than expected - Reports

India has missed Jasprit Bumrah for the past year, and with two major multi-team tournaments coming up in Asia Cup and the home World Cup later in 2023, his presence in the squad will make a difference. Team India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey shared a similar opinion following India’s win in the first Test against West Indies in Dominica.

He said several rounds of talks surrounding workload management for the bowlers are already happening within the camp, and the board will look into giving required rest to key players considering the jam-packed schedule going forward.

“If we look at the last 1-1.5 years, Bumrah is one player we missed a lot. As of now, there haven’t been any discussions on who will play white ball and who will play red ball, but going forward, we have to give breaks to individual bowlers. The moment we give a break to a bowler, we can bring another one, which will create bench strength,” India’s bowling coach said when asked about giving rest to players.

Bumrah - the ace seamer, has been out of action since September last year due to a back injury. Upon getting under the knife early in 2023, Bumrah is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and as latest reports suggest, he is slowly regaining complete fitness.

Though it remains unclear when he will return in the reckoning for selection, Team India brought in several newcomers in the meantime, with mostly all getting good chances.

“A lot of other bowlers, like Mukesh, who have done well in Ranji cricket, and bowlers who have been also part of the team like Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh, there will be an opportunity to work with them,” Mhambrey added.

<h2>‘Mukesh is an interesting talent’</h2>

Mukesh Kumar is one player who rose through the ranks, and thanks to his consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy and IPL 2023, he keeps getting picked, and Mhambrey feels it’s about time before he breaks into Indian XI across format.

“He is a very interesting talent, one thing is he is coming on the back of a lot of hard work and performance. He knows the value of himself. We have been following his performance for the last couple of years and how he has been performing in the Ranji Trophy,” Mhambrey said.

Mhambrey added India need bench strength, and Mukesh can help the team click this box.

“This is my opportunity to work with him and create bench strength. We have Siraj now, who is bowling well, and to supplement him, we have Shami and Bumrah there, and we need to create a bench strength, even beyond that. It is a good opportunity for Mukesh to sit with the people here talk to them, and learn. There are a lot of senior bowlers here for him to interact with,” Mhambrey added.

The dust has&nbsp;all but settled on the controversy surrounding India vs Pakistan fixture in the Asia Cup 2023 after Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal cleared the air. While there were reports in Pakistan media backed by Sports Minister Ehsan Mazari that India could travel to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup, it has now been confirmed that there is no such plan. The seven-time Asian champions will play all their matches in Sri Lanka instead despite them being the unofficial hosts.

<h2>Arun Dhumal dismisses Pakistan media rumours</h2>

"Our secretary met PCB head Zaka Ashraf and the Asia Cup schedule was finalised and it is on course as it was discussed earlier. There will be four games of league stage in Pakistan, followed by nine&nbsp;games in Sri Lanka, including both India versus Pakistan matches, and in case there is a third game if both teams play final," Dhumal told PTI.

“There was no such discussion held. Neither is India travelling to Pakistan, nor our secretary will be travelling contrary to reports that have surfaced. Only the schedule was finalised,” added Dhumal in his conversation.

The rumours were dismissed by the IPL chairman after he met with the PCB management committee head recently. Both India and Pakistan have been in hot debate over the hybrid model of the Asia Cup which was proposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). India had cleared their intentions over not travelling to Pakistan while proposing the hybrid model that will see Pakistan play all their matches on&nbsp;home soil, except those against India.

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee last week to decide on his country’s stand to travel to India to play the World Cup or not.

The Asia Cup 2023 will start on August 31 with six teams which will be divided into two groups of three teams each. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are placed in one group with Nepal being the third team. The format of the Asia Cup will be the same as that in 2022 with India and Pakistan likely to meet three times, if they make the final on September 13.

Asia Cup 2023: India NOT to travel to Pakistan, confirms IPL chairman Arun Dhumal

The drama regarding Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is far from over. An&nbsp;upcoming ICC meeting is set to take place in Durban, South Africa and the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, is keen to push for the Babar Azam-led Men in Green to play their World Cup games at neutral venues. It is mainly because India didn't agree to travel to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup&nbsp;to be held in August-September.

<h2>'Want neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup'</h2>

“Zaka Ashraf will bring up the issue of why can’t Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup be played at neutral venues when the Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. I want our World Cup matches at neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. If they have security problems in Pakistan according to the Indian board, then we can also question the security situation in India,” said Ahsan Mazari as quoted by PTI.&nbsp;

Pakistan's participation in the 50-over showpiece event has become a huge talking point. The&nbsp;final decision&nbsp;will be taken by their&nbsp;government. However, there is no end to the drama between PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the Indian cricket board made it clear that they won't send their team to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup, the tournament's future was under dark clouds before a hybrid model came up, with the India games -- including their marquee clash versus Pakistan -- to be held in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

Only four matches&nbsp;of the Asia Cup 2023 edition will take place in Pakistan, allowing Babar &amp; Co.&nbsp;to take the field in front of their home fans only once. Thus, this has not been well received by the PCB, whereas their demands with regard to the venue changes for the ODI World Cup have&nbsp;also not been entertained.

Thus, Ashraf aims to push Pakistan's ODI WC games to be played at neutral venues and not in India. As of now, the 1992 champions are&nbsp;set to play their nine league-stage games in five different venues&nbsp;in India.

The drama regarding Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is far from over. The drama regarding Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is far from over. An upcoming ICC meeting is set to take place in Durban, South Africa and the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, is keen to push for the Babar Azam-led Men in Green to play their World Cup games at neutral venues. It is mainly because India didn't agree to travel to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup to be held in August-September. 'Want neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup' “Zaka Ashraf will bring up the issue of why can’t Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup be played at neutral venues when the Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. I want our World Cup matches at neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. If they have security problems in Pakistan according to the Indian board, then we can also question the security situation in India,” said Ahsan Mazari as quoted by PTI. Pakistan's participation in the 50-over showpiece event has become a huge talking point. The final decision will be taken by their government. However, there is no end to the drama between PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the Indian cricket board made it clear that they won't send their team to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup, the tournament's future was under dark clouds before a hybrid model came up, with the India games -- including their marquee clash versus Pakistan -- to be held in Sri Lanka. Also Read: People are going overboard: Harbhajan Singh backs under-fire captain Rohit Sharma ahead of WI tour Only four matches of the Asia Cup 2023 edition will take place in Pakistan, allowing Babar & Co. to take the field in front of their home fans only once. Thus, this has not been well received by the PCB, whereas their demands with regard to the venue changes for the ODI World Cup have also not been entertained. Thus, Ashraf aims to push Pakistan's ODI WC games to be played at neutral venues and not in India. As of now, the 1992 champions are set to play their nine league-stage games in five different venues in India. PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf to push for Pakistan to play ODI WC games at neutral venues during ICC meeting

With World Cup 2023 set to begin in around three months, the absence of star players continues to haunt Team India. Shreyas Iyer’s back pain is said to be troubling him again as the middle-order batter is unlikely to get fit in time for the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled from August 31 to September 17.

Having last played a competitive game back in March during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Ahmedabad, Iyer missed all the action since, including the ODI series against Australia, the IPL 2023 for Kolkata Knight Riders and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at the Oval.

Although Ajinkya Rahane filled his shoes in the one-off Test, scoring 89 and 46 in two innings, Iyer’s absence was felt as India failed to win the Test title for the second straight time.

Meanwhile, Iyer underwent back surgery in London and continues to undergo physiotherapy at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. As per the source close to the information, Iyer is still dealing with back pain, while his chances of getting fit in time for the multi-team tournament, co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka this time, look bleak.

“Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source told the Times of India (TOI).

<h2>Road ahead looks rough for Iyer</h2>

After a brilliant 2022 with the bat in ODIs, wherein he scored 724 runs from 15 innings, Iyer shined in the away two-match Test series against Bangladesh later last year; but again missed the home New Zealand series due to a reoccurrence of pain in his back. Though he missed the first Test against Australia in Nagpur for the same reason, Iyer returned for the remaining three Tests. &nbsp;

Even for forthcoming India’s tour of the West Indies, which begins with the first of the two Tests on July 12 in Dominica, Ajinkya Rahane has retained his place, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal are picked as backups.&nbsp;

As selectors continue to ignore Sarfaraz Khan for the middle-order spot in Tests despite his gigantic numbers in the past three years in Ranji Trophy, it looks like a blessing in disguise for Iyer – on whom the selection committee is banking.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, in the white-ball circuit, India tried Suryakumar Yadav during the Aussies, but he failed miserably, getting out on a first-ball duck in three straight matches. With Iyer not in the scheme of things for now, India will either continue with SKY in the middle overs or rope in a new face, someone like Sanju Samson, ahead of the home World Cup in October-November.

Shreyas Iyer remains doubtful for Asia Cup 2023 as back pain continues to trouble him

Zaka Ashraf, who is likely to be the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has waded into a controversy. Ashraf had rejected Najam Sethi's hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. It seems like now he has undergone a change of heart. Zaka Ashraf had said he didn’t agree with the hybrid model during a media interview on Wednesday, triggering controversy over whether talks will resume regarding the specifics of the Asia Cup 2023 or not. But in a later turn of events, he told ESPNcricinfo that the decision has been made, so they will go ahead with it. The Asia Cup is to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan in September.

Zaka Ashraf’s change of heart

Zaka Ashraf said as quoted by Sports Inside, “In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model is not beneficial for Pakistan and I did not like it. Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to ensure that the entire tournament is played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka is taking a large number of matches and Pakistan has only four matches, which is not in our country's interest."
Zaka Ashraf said that since the decision has been taken, they will have to abide by it. “I don't have any intention of non-compliance. I can't do anything about it now other than honouring the commitment. But going forward, whatever decision we take will be in the interest of the country."

Earlier, Zaka Ashraf had also said in a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday that he rejects the hybrid model of Asia Cup 2023 because he does not agree with it. He had also claimed that the board of the Asian Cricket Council had decided that the tournament should be held in India.&nbsp;

Asia Cup 2023: Good news for Indian fans

There’s also good news for the Indian fans ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will most probably feature in the three-match T20 series against Ireland in August. Bumrah, who has not played since a T20I game against Australia in September last year, is recovering well from injury and could be at his peak fitness when he returns to the team.

Bumrah has been under the supervision of National Cricket Academy President VVS Laxman and Head Sports Science and Medicine Department Nitin Patel. This year, Bumrah attempted to make a comeback for the home series against Sri Lanka in January, but ongoing back problems derailed his plans, leaving him with no option but to undergo surgery a few months later.

The drama over Pakistan and its stance on the Asia Cup 2023 doesn’t seem to be ending soon. Zaka Ashraf, who is likely to be the next PCB chairman, has changed his opinion on the hybrid model.

Asia Cup 2023 Venue: Reports claim Zaka Ashraf takes U-turn on hybrid model

The next likely Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf has shown his discontent with the model of the upcoming Asia Cup which is set to take place in September. The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) last week announced its decision to host the Asia Cup in a hybrid model which will see Pakistan host four matches while Sri Lanka will host nine matches as unofficial hosts. According to Ashraf, it is an injustice to Pakistan as the majority of the tournament will be played away from home despite it being the official host of the tournament.

<h2>Injustice towards Pakistan?</h2>

"I don't agree with it. According to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the tournament should be held entirely in Pakistan. Major matches are played elsewhere, and only minor teams like Nepal play in Pakistan. Injustice has been done to Pakistan,” Ashraf said in a media conference on Wednesday, June 21 evening as quoted by Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

Ashraf is set to take the reigns as the chairman of the PCB in the comings after he was appointed to the board of governors by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The elections for the PCB chairman post will take place in the coming days where Ashraf is expected to take the helm with former chairman Najam Sethi out of the race. Sethi, who was in the interim charge had retaliated against the model proposed by ACC which sees India play their Asia Cup matches away from Pakistan.

<h2>Ashraf to push for changes in Asia Cup</h2>

It is expected Ashraf will try to push for a change in the plan of the Asia Cup to schedule more matches in&nbsp;Pakistan. However, given the clear verdict of the ACC in the past, any changes to the plans are highly unlikely as the preparations are now in the final stage. ACC, headed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, is now keen on deciding the venues for the tournament with India playing all their matches including against Pakistan in Sri Lanka.

"I will try to do what is in the best interest of Pakistan within the shortest possible time. There are many pending issues, and I am not delving deep into the matter since I haven't officially taken over," Ashraf added.

It is expected that the Asia Cup will start on August 31 and the final will likely take place on September 17. Both India and Pakistan are in the same group along with Nepal, while Bangladesh, unofficial hosts Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are placed in another group.

Zaka Ashraf shows discontent for ACC's hybrid model for Asia Cup, says 'injustice has been done to Pakistan'

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since India's home T20Is versus Australia in September 2022. Since then, a recurring back injury has kept him out of action and he was not part of India's T20 World Cup campaign in Australia, home Test series versus Pat Cummins &amp; Co. early this year, IPL 2023 and the recently-held WTC final.

Indian cricket fans are desperately waiting for Bumrah's return to action as Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. have a litmus test waiting ahead with the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup to take place in the latter half of 2023. As per reports, the veteran pacer is eyeing an international return during India's three-match T20I series versus hosts Ireland prior to Asia Cup and ODI WC on home soil.

<h2>'It will be a big boost to Indian cricket team'</h2>

“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take the field,” a senior BCCI official told News18 in a recent interaction.

“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth have been working very closely with Bumrah and keeping him on track during the rehab period at the NCA. Both are very experienced and don’t want to take any chance with Bumrah in what is a very crucial white-ball year and also the start of the new World Test Championship cycle,”&nbsp;the official further added.

Bumrah -- who has 128, 121 and 70 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively -- has been a crucial part of Team India since his international debut in early 2016. Of late, injuries have dented his progress but he will be eager to return to action after attaining full fitness and help India end their ten-year-long ICC title drought with an ODI WC triumph later in 2023.

Jasprit Bumrah to return during Ireland T20Is before Asia Cup and ODI World Cup: Report

The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 with the hybrid model in place for the tournament. As things stand after the official confirmation, Pakistan despite being the host, will host only four matches, while Sri Lanka will host nine matches including the final if India qualify. The Asia Cup will start on August 31, with the final taking place on September 17 and will be played in the ODI format before the World Cup in India.

<h2>India vs Pakistan to take place in Sri Lanka</h2>

While the detailed schedule of the Asia Cup is yet to be finalised including the venues and key dates for the key fixtures, the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan will take place in Sri Lanka. The two teams will meet in the group stage where Nepal will be the other team. The two teams are again likely to meet in the Super Four stage if they secure qualification for the next round. That fixture too will be played in Sri Lanka as India have confirmed they won’t be travelling to Pakistan due to the poor diplomatic relations between the nations.

If the two teams, India and Pakistan, make it to the final of the Asia Cup then the final will also take place in Sri Lanka.

On the flip side, Pakistan will play all its matches on their home turf except the India clash that will take place in Sri Lanka. Babar Azam’s side will also play their Super Four matches except the India one in Pakistan.

<h2>What is the format for Asia Cup?</h2>

The entire tournament will be played in the ODI format rather than the T20I format which was in use for the Asia Cup 2022 to help the teams prepare for the ODI World Cup in India. As things stand, the 2022 format will be in use where six teams have been divided into two groups and will play round-robin clashes.

The group winners and runners-up will play in the Super Four stage where the teams will again meet in the round-robin format. Two teams topping the group after the Super Four stage will play in the final on September 17.

Asia Cup 2023 will begin on August 31 and will have its final on September 17. Six countries will be participating in the tournament including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal, Jagran reported.&nbsp;

The press release by ACC stated, "We are delighted to announce that the Asia Cup 2023 will be held from August 31 to September 17, and will see the elite teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, compete in a total of 13 exciting ODI matches. The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka."

India has accepted playing the game in a hybrid model. The news was shared in a tweet. It read, "ACC President Jay Shah accepted the Hybrid Model proposed by PCB for the Asia Cup 2023. Matches of India and Super Fours are likely to be played in Sri Lanka &amp; the rest of the group stage matches including 'Nepal vs Pakistan' will be played in Pakistan."

There will be 13 ODI matches, Pakistan will host four games and Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine.&nbsp;

<h3>What is Hybrid Model in Cricket?</h3>

This is a relatively new rule set in cricket and has been discussed in the past year due to the Asia Cup 2023 controversy between India and Pakistan. The controversy was that India refused to travel to Pakistan, which will be hosting the Asia Cup over diplomatic and security issues.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed this hybrid model in which the games involving India will be played outside Pakistan.

Both countries refused the hybrid model initially but after consideration, Sri Lanka agreed to host India's Asia Cup games. The UAE was also spotted as a possible venue for India's matches, but India wasn't too keen on it.

Now Pakistan retains the hosting rights for Asia Cup, while India will be playing games in Sri Lanka, a neutral venue for both countries. The final will also be played in Sri Lanka. Lahore has been chosen as the venue for the Pakistan leg of the championship.

Asia Cup 2023 Dates Announced: Check full schedule, teams, date & venue released by Asian Cricket Council

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might have to deal with another blow, as after reports of them losing the hosting rights of Asia Cup 2023, they probably will lose the chance of hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy too, for which there will be monetary compensation.

As per the latest reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is mulling over changing venues for the upcoming events – the 2024 T20 World Cup (in West Indies and the USA) and the 2025 Champions Trophy (in Pakistan). News18 CricketNext reported earlier that ICC could switch the 2024 T20 WC from West Indies and USA to Ireland and Scotland, while the 2025 Champions Trophy could be moved to West Indies and the USA from Pakistan.

Sources close to the information revealed that though the talks are in their initial stages now, the chances of this happening are higher considering the lack of infrastructure in the USA for hosting the multi-team event.&nbsp;

“The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging. Even if they successfully host the upcoming Major League Cricket, hosting an event like the T20 World Cup is a different ball game altogether. Where will you host the matches when the venues aren’t ready? Also, a long tournament in the far west could be a loss-making proposition for the broadcasters in the sub-continent, where the returns are highest,” sources close to the information said, as quoted by Cricket Addictor.

Besides, the broadcasters for the next ICC media rights are also believed to agree to this proposal, and if everything falls in place, the changes might be implemented.

<h2>What is the reason&nbsp;behind changing venues?</h2>

So, why this change is happening in the first place? Because of the scheduling constraint in the UK - the matches can only be played from May to June – which is the same window when the next year’s T20 World Cup is scheduled in the Caribbean and the USA. As a result, the ICC has looked into Scotland and Ireland as alternative options.

Now if that happens, the ICC can switch the venue of the 2025 Champions Trophy from Pakistan to West Indies and the USA – giving the USA more time to prepare the required infrastructure for the tournament. Also, since the Champions Trophy will host fewer matches in comparison to T20 World Cup, hosting 2025 CT in WI and the USA looks like a logistically viable option.

However, the report also suggested that none of the countries mentioned to host these events has signed a "hosting agreement"&nbsp;yet, as ICC will try to convince Pakistan for the swap by potentially compensating them monetarily for the change.

After Asia Cup, 2025 Champions Trophy could also be moved out of Pakistan: Reports

With each passing day, a new stipulation or suggested change gets added to the Asia Cup 2023 saga that has made enough headlines for reasons unrelated to cricket. Following the IPL 2023 Final, where all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members, barring PCB representatives, were present, Jay Shah – BCCI secretary and ACC chief, clarified his stance on PCB’s hybrid model, saying the Asia Cup will happen in Sri Lanka only, and that&nbsp;the PCB has to abide by it, else they can pull out.

Although no formal announcement has been made, as per a report in the Telegraph India, sources in the knowhow have&nbsp;revealed that PCB chief Najam Sethi will be informed about the same in the next ACC meeting.

It must be noted Pakistan was the original host for this year’s Asia Cup, and upon receiving reservations from the BCCI over their team going&nbsp;to Pakistan and playing a multi-team event series there, the PCB proposed a hybrid model - which was also denied by the Indian board.

That model stated four or five matches will be played in Pakistan, while India will play its games in the UAE. The BCCI played down this idea citing unfavourable weather conditions in the UAE during September.

However, as reported earlier, Jay Shah had invited top bosses from ACB, BCB and SLC for the IPL 2023 Final – and after informal discussions around the same, all agreed to play the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, with the island nation also agreeing to host the tournament on short notice.

Meanwhile, PCB, on several occasions, has said that if Asia Cup 2023 rights were snatched from them, there is a high chance their government might not allow Pakistan to travel to India for the 50-over World Cup later this year. Given the ACC is set to inform about their call to play Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the PCB could be prompted to take extreme measures.

Besides, the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice are currently in Lahore seeking assurance from Pakistan over their participation in the World Cup.

Following regular meetings with Najam Sethi over their short visit to Lahore, it is learnt that both ICC bosses have been informed about Pakistan’s stance on the whole episode.

While the final schedule for the 2023 World Cup will be revealed on the sidelines of the World Test Championship final, it remains to be seen if Pakistan decides to participate or not.&nbsp;
