A WNBA game was halted when someone threw a sex toy on the court, in the third such incident in a week. The incident happened on August 5 when the Indiana Fever were playing against the Los Angeles Sparks. The video of the on-court action was shared on X and shows that the game had to be halted to remove the object. "Oh, look out. Something just came onto the floor. An object just flew in as the free throw is being made. It looked like that hit a player, too," a commentator said after the sex toy came flying onto the court and hit Fever player Sophie Cunningham. The first time someone flung a sex toy during a WNBA game was during the tie between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream on July 29. The video shared on X shows a "green thing" bouncing off the court and falling towards the sideline. Mohammed Siraj's net worth in 2025: How much does the Indian pacer earn?

Mohammed Siraj was over the moon on Monday (Aug 4) after he helped India beat England in the fifth Test match at The Oval in a thrilling contest. The narrow six-run win saw India end the series at 2-2 in the inaugural Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy as Siraj and captain Shubman Gill played their key roles. While Gill was named Player of the Match, Siraj’s contribution did not go unnoticed as he bagged 23 wickets in the series. After his match-winning spell for India, former coach Greg Chappell was full of praise for Siraj and termed him the leader of Gill’s bowling attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence.
Chappell in awe of Siraj
"To be fair, he has turned in many fine performances before, at the MCG, the Gabba, Perth, Lord's, Cape Town and Birmingham, but what he did at The Oval was his true coming of age. With or without Bumrah, he is ready to be the spiritual as well as actual leader of Gill's attack," Chappell wrote in his ESPNCricinfo column. "I don't think it is unfair to say that, despite the many wonderful batting efforts, Siraj was the main reason that India was competitive in the series," Chappell wrote. Heading into the series, the Indian team management had opted to go for a rotational system in the bowling department to rest Jasprit Bumrah. However, that criteria was not applied to Siraj as he represented India in all five matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. With little over a month to go for the start of the Asia Cup 2025, defending champions India will be ready to conquer the crown again as they set their sights on the latest continental adventure. Ahead of the continental showpiece, India will look to boost a strong squad with management set to consider Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the tournament. According to an India Today report, Ganguly has filed his nomination for the apex post in Bengal cricket after his brother, Snehasish, became ineligible due to the Lodha Committee’s tenure cap. The final apex council meeting is scheduled for Thursday (August 14) and the AGM will take place on September 20. The dates for the upcoming meetings were finalised on Tuesday during the emergent apex council meeting with polls in view. Ganguly first joined the administrative body of CAB in 2015 when he became the secretary while Jagmohan Dalmiya was president. He would succeed the legendary administrator in late 2015 and serve on the board till 2019. He played a pivotal role in the development of Bengal cricket, especially in the women’s section. Ganguly then took over as BCCI president in 2019, with key decisions taking place in a central role. It was during his BCCI tenure that Virat Kohli was controversially sacked as the India ODI team captain. The tenure also saw BCCI earn a record TV rights deal for broadcasting and live streaming of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sourav Ganguly, who successfully led India in the early 2000s, has reportedly filed his nomination for the presidency and is likely to replace his brother Snehasish, who is no longer eligible to serve as the CAB president.

The relationship between FC Barcelona and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen continues to worsen, with the club opening disciplinary proceedings against the goalkeeper. Barca have started the move after Ter Stegen reportedly refused to sign a medical report that the club was going to send to La Liga's Medical Commission over the 33-year-old's back injury. Ter Stegen had an operation on his back last week, with the goalkeeper posting on social media that he expected to be out of action for around three months. However, Barcelona's medical report estimates he will be sidelined for five months. The difference is vital to Barcelona, because if La Liga accepts, Ter Stegen will be out of action for over four months, the club would be able to drop him from its first-team squad and use 80 percent of his salary to register new players under La Liga's financial fair play rules. Currently, Barcelona are unable to register new signings Joan Garcia, Roony Bardghji, and Marcus Rashford in their squad. Wojciech Szczesny and Gerard Martin are also unregistered following new contracts, with Martin promoted from the B-team. With other avenues of income still to supply the necessary funds, Barcelona need the money from Ter Stegen's salary to register at least some of the five before their La Liga opener against Mallorca on August 16. However, for the moment, Ter Stegen is unwilling to back down, knowing that if he does so, he has no chance of playing until January, even if he is fit at the end of October. The problem for Barcelona is even worse, given that Ter Stegen and Inaki Pena are currently Barca's only two registered goalkeepers, with Pena not part of coach Hansi Flick's plans. That makes it more vital than ever that the club finds some way of registering Garcia and Szczesny, but the pressure on a goalkeeper who has played 422 times for the club is creating a conflict that shows no signs of ending. Disclaimer: This story has been published from a news agency feed with minimal edits to adhere to WION's style guide. Premier League giants Manchester United have made a bid of slightly less than £74m (€85m) for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The bid is an initial £65m with about £8.9m (€75m + €10m) in add-ons related to performance. Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also been attempting to do a deal for Sesko. They placed a second bid of £69.7m with add-ons, higher than Manchester United's — following an initial bid of slightly less than £70m (€80m) with add-ons. RB Leipzig are now considering and weighing up the Newcastle and Man Utd offers and their respective structures internally, according to Sky Germany. Sesko is willing to consider both ventures but sources have informed Sky Sports News that he is inclined towards Manchester United. The 22-year-old did not appear for RB Leipzig's pre-season friendly defeat to Atalanta on Saturday amid his anticipated departure from the club. The forward, who has informed team-mates he is set to leave, trained indoors separately from the squad at Leipzig training complex on Tuesday (August 5). The bid features a guaranteed payment of 75m euros (£65.2m). The Red Devils have not received a response but think the bid is fair for 22-year-old Slovenia striker and the player is eager to seal a transfer to Old Trafford. Manchester United are open to releasing Rasmus Hojlund so as to create room for Sesko.
Where will Sesko join?
Sesko has 39 goals in 87 games for RB Leipzig and, at 6ft 5in, would also add real physical presence to the Old Trafford club's attack line. Manchester United sources have already explained how it is likely that they will come to an agreement over Sesko despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe saying earlier this year there was a possibility of the club going out of business by Christmas unless there were huge cost-cutting exercises. Arrangements for paying for the transfers for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolves and Brentford this summer, costing a total of £130m, have been structured in a positive manner. Apart from that, the full amount of Marcus Rashford's £325,000-a-week wages is being paid by his loan switch to Barcelona and Manchester United received £5m compensation from Chelsea when the Blues cancelled a deal to sign Jadon Sancho. Manchester United have also received over £15m in fees under sell-on clauses for Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Carreras and Maxi Oyedele. Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim has made Sesko a priority target in which he can lead United's new attack brigade alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha but the Portuguese appears to prefer an offer for Ollie Watkins.

The Indian Shooting team's High-Performance Manager Ronak Pandit believes the Shooting League of India can use technology to help in growing the audiences for the sport. Speaking on the sidelines of the Indian national camp in Dehradun in July, the former India shooter and pistol coach said that technology and animation can play a major differentiator during the league to present the sport in a new avatar. "People look at shooting as a technical, boring sport. We need to make it fun and get animation involved. Through technology and animation, we can explain to the masses in a fun way what exactly happens in the sport," Pandit said. "People need to be educated about various aspects of the sport but not in technical manner. By using animation, we can ensure it is not left to people's imagination. If people have not seen it, then it becomes difficult for them to understand," the 40-year-old added. Shooting League of India, the first franchise-based professional shooting competition in India, was sanctioned by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) earlier this year and has already received the support from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). Everything comes down to eyeballs and mass engagement, which cannot just happen through viewership. One also needs to experience it. Shooters will be grouped into four tiers — Elite Champions, World Elite, National Champions, and Junior & Youth Champions — ensuring a dynamic blend of experience and emerging talent. We need to present the league in a similar fashion by using technological means to build anticipation with each and every shot. As soon as a player picks a gun, we can find ways using technology to showcase the athlete's mindset, and offer statistics to showcase the possibility of success with each type of shot. An Indigenous community has taken the government to court to prevent a 63,000-seat stadium for the Brisbane Olympics 2032 being constructed on sacred land. In March, the Queensland government announced that a new A$3.8bn ($2.5bn; £1.8bn) stadium would be constructed - with federal assistance - at Victoria Park, a 60-hectare property. The Yagara Magandjin Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) and Save Victoria Park group are calling on the federal environment minister to declare the park a culturally significant place, which would help safeguard the land from being developed. Victoria Park is "of great significance and history" for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, YMAC spokeswoman Gaja Kerry Charlton said. “We are very concerned there are ancient trees, artefacts and very important ecosystems existing there. There may be ancestral remains.” The federal government has confirmed it had received the application to make a declaration under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act. "The department is currently reviewing this application and will take all standard steps to progress it, including engaging with the applicant, the proponent and the Queensland government," they said. If constructed, the stadium will play host to the Olympic and Paralympic Games' opening and closing ceremonies in 2032. Following the Olympics, the stadium will serve as the base for AFL and cricket in Queensland.
Brisbane to construct 63,000-seat stadium for 2032 Games
Infrastructure plans for the 2032 Olympics have been a contentious Queensland political issue in recent years. Labor's Annastacia Palaszczuk spearheaded the successful Olympic bid, and announced proposals to upgrade the old Gabba stadium for the games, costing around A$3bn. But the proposal was unpopular with residents who were concerned they would be driven out of their homes, and taxpayers appalled by the cost. A review ordered after she resigned as premier in 2023 suggested an even more costly solution, a new stadium in Victoria Park. But during a cost-of-living crisis, the new leader of the state Steven Miles instead decided to upgrade existing facilities to accommodate the games events, a move some accused of being an embarrassment for Australia internationally. Months afterwards, he was defeated in an election by the Liberal National Party that ran on a promise of no new stadiums. But following the new government's own review, new premier David Crisafulli embraced the plan to construct a venue in Victoria Park, and has gone on to introduce legislation exempting new Olympic venues from planning regulations in an attempt to speed up the development. But the plans have been welcomed with anger in Queensland, with some residents unhappy at losing an inner-city green space of that size, and others fearful of damage to cultural heritage. The state and federal governments have indicated they will take on board Indigenous groups' views on the development plans for Victoria Park. Lord Mayor of Brisbane Adrian Schrinner said there was overwhelming support for the stadium. "Ultimately, this is going to happen," he said. "No doubt there will be attempts to thwart the project and slow it down."

In a contentious policy shift, the Trump administration is set out to deny US visas to transgender women athletes who are looking to compete in women's sports, arguing that 'Men do not belong in Women's sports'. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) this week announced that it had revised its policy to limit access to some of the premium visa categories, such as O-1A visas for people with extraordinary ability and work-based immigrant visas (E11, E21), to biological women only. Male-born athletes, including transgender women, will be deemed ineligible under the new policy if the reason for which they are applying is to compete in women's sports in the US. The move is a direct reaction to Executive Order 14201, "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," signed by President Trump earlier this year in February. "Men do not belong in women's sports. USCIS is closing the loophole for foreign male athletes whose only chance at winning elite sports is to change their gender identity and leverage their biological advantages against women," said USCIS Spokesperson Matthew Tragesser. "It's a matter of safety, fairness, respect, and truth that only female athletes receive a visa to come to the US to participate in women's sports. The Trump Administration is standing up for the silent majority who've long been victims of leftist policies that defy common sense," he said. The justification for the action, according to officials, is to safeguard the integrity, safety, and fairness of female athletics. The policy revision also redefines how USCIS assesses the achievements of foreign players. It says that any fame achieved through competing with women as a transgender woman will be considered an adverse factor in visa consideration even if such players have gained international recognition. Under the new directive, the agency has spelled out that it will not view transgender women's inclusion in women's sports as advancing the US national interest. The policy is the first where gender identity has been expressly cited as a reason to deny admission to the United States under the immigration system. Legal experts indicate that the action is also likely to unleash a flurry of lawsuits, particularly if visa petitions are rejected outright because of gender identity, potentially raising constitutional and international human rights issues. Trump signed the "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order in February 2025 to safeguard opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports. "It is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy. It shall also be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in women's sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth," the White House said.

US President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Tuesday (August 5) to create a task force for the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, which will take place in Los Angeles during his administration. “During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, adding that the president would work to make the event “the most exciting and memorable in history.”“The President considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term,” according to her statement on Monday (August 4). The executive order establishing the task force was first reported by news agency Reuters. Trump has long been a vocal supporter of major global sporting events set to take place in the US under his presidency, praising both the Olympics and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “I got the World Cup and I have the Olympics and I did it,” Trump said at an event in Iowa in July. Trump enlisted a similar task force earlier this year for the US, Canada and Mexico that will host the FIFA World Cup next year, naming Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — a president's strongest supporter — to be its director.
What will the Olympics task force do?
That task force was brought in to coordinate agencies and departments across the federal government to help put on and host the World Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, a standalone tournament that had taken place earlier in the year. Both the Olympics and the World Cup are likely to attract large crowds of spectators — along with a lot of international visitors — posing logistical and security issues. Some critics of the Trump administration are worried that his push to clamp down on undocumented immigration and limit travel from certain countries might make it harder to host those sporting events. Trump has vowed that he will make travel and visa access easier for World Cup teams and fans. The president has consistently attended high-profile sporting events since his return to office, including the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, a UFC bout, the NCAA men's wrestling championships and the FIFA Club World Cup final, which was hosted in New Jersey. And he often weighs in sports-world controversies. Trump blasted the Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Olympics in Paris as “a disgrace” over a performance that some viewers believed to be a depiction of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” even though organisers denied there was a religious reference.

One city, 5.2 miles of distance between two iconic grounds and 20 days is what it took for Mohammed Siraj's life to turn full circle in this back-breaking English tour. It was on July 14 that Siraj helplessly watched a Shoaib Bashir delivery seep down and hit his stumps at Lord's. He spent most time on his haunches as if Father Time had frozen for him. The normally ebullient man was quite heartbroken about allowing Ravindra Jadeja's incredible battle to be in vain and surrendering a lead against England. The 'warrior' within him had earned a closure and cut to August 4, it arrived again with the familiar bang of timber, this time though, he was the one perturbing it to make sure India finished 2-2, draw evenly billed after a fightback for the ages. Gus Atkinson was the one in agony at the opposite end as he missed a fast and full delivery. Siraj, meanwhile, was flying, his cheeky humor intact. Asked about his emotions after the final wicket, having gone through the heartbreak at Lord's, Siraj was typically unfiltered. "Actually DK bhai (Dinesh Karthik) started asking questions in English so at that point all emotions went away," he said. Call it coincidence but when he was stretching his body to its limits with an 80-over vintage Dukes ball playing tricks with the English batsmen's minds as well as willows, it was Jadeja, who had a few rousing words of advice for the 31-year-old workhorse. "Jaddu bhai ne bola, ki apne father ke barein mein soch aur kitna takleef unhone uthaya aur tujhe unke liye yeh karna (win) hai. (Think about your late father and amount of hardships he faced. Do it for him)," Siraj said referring to the late anchor of his life. Following 185.3 overs of Test match bowling and 23 wickets, with match-winning performances in games when there was no Jasprit Bumrah accompanying him, Siraj has made his own indelible mark. "Body is fine...I don't care if it's the sixth over or the ninth over for me. I don't bowl for myself, it is for my country," he said. "I woke up in the morning and checked google on my phone and took out a 'Believe' emoji wallpaper and told myself that I will do it for the country." He then showed that wallpaper to the media. "I always believe that I can win the game from any point, and this morning was no different," Siraj told Dinesh Karthik in a post match chat for JioHotstar. Having troubled the English batsmen persistently, Siraj took 5/104 off 30.1 overs and nine wickets overall. "My only plan was to bowl in good areas. Didn't matter if I took wickets or went for runs," Siraj signed off.

India’s England tour had an incredible end on Monday (August 4) after the visitors won by six runs in a thrilling finish on Day 5 of The Oval Test match. Mohammed Siraj, India’s architect in the victory, scalped a decisive five-for as he continued his fluent form with the ball during the series. Applauding the pacer’s determination and ability to play all five matches, former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar slammed conversations relating to workload management.
Gavaskar slams workload conversations
"Mohammed Siraj debunked forever this business of workload. I hope that the workload word gets taken out of Indian cricket dictionary. For 5 Test matches, non-stop he has bowled 7-8 over spells, because the captain wanted him and the country expected of him," Gavaskar told India Today in the interview. "And that is one thing I think people keep in mind that workload is a mental thing, not a physical thing and if you are going to succumb to people who are talking about workload then you are never going to have your best players on the field for your country," he added. Heading into the series, the Indian team management had opted to go for a rotational system in the bowling department to rest Jasprit Bumrah. However, that criteria was not applied to Siraj as he represented India in all five matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. During the series, Siraj bagged 23 wickets, the most by any bowler and helped India win the final Test, thereby drawing the series 2-2. ALSO READ | From Rohit Sharma to Virat Kohli, 5 Indian batters with most runs in Asia Cup (ODIs + T20Is)
India-England share Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
In a series full of thrilling contests, the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was shared by India and England as it ended 2-2. IND vs ENG: Sunil Gavaskar slams 'workload' conversation, praises Mohammed Siraj after match-winning spell

The Indian team had a sweet end to a long England tour on Monday (August 4) after they beat England by a mere six runs at The Oval. The win saw both India and England share the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, with both teams winning two matches each. The new-look Indian side had Shubman Gill as the skipper with no Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the side for the first time in more than a decade in the red-ball format. As India enjoyed a huge batting success, there was the curious case for ‘No.3 position’ which is well and truly up for grabs after Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan failed to make their mark.
Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan fail at No.3
During the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Karun Nair played at the No.3 position on four occasions during the Edgbaston and Lord’s Test, scoring 111 runs. His highest score across the four innings was 40 as he clearly struggled to nail down a place in the position. He was also used as a No.5 in the Headingley and the Oval Tests, but failed to make an impression, scoring 94 runs in four further innings. Considering Ravindra Jadeja was scoring runs in tandem despite not being a full-time batter, it showed Nair’s inability to adapt against the lethal English attack. Interestingly, he had scored 204 against England Lions in a warm-up match before the series started. On the other hand, Sai Sudharsan scored slightly more runs at No.3 for India, but he also played two more innings compared to Nair. While he got a fifty at Old Trafford, he was also on the receiving end of two ducks in that position. In total, Sudharsan scored 140 runs in six innings, highlighting India’s flaws at No.3 while batters like KL Rahul and Shubman Gill were excelling. ALSO READ | From Rohit Sharma to Virat Kohli, 5 Indian batters with most runs in Asia Cup (ODIs + T20Is)
Who are the options?
As things stand, India will have to rethink their plans for the No.3 position with the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Sarafraz Khan on the waiting list. However, neither is a natural No.3 option, meaning that to accommodate either in the Playing XI, Shubman Gill will have to move up. But that said, it is unlikely the Indian management will change Gill’s position after starring in the No.4 position. If natural No.3 options are taken into consideration, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane could be thrown a career lifeline. Like Iyer and Sarafraz, Rahane is also not a natural No.3, so his return looks unlikely, while Pujara’s return will depend on factors like age, injury and long-term availability. It also won’t be surprising if the Indian team management decides to give Abhimanyu Easwaran a debut cap during the West Indies series in October and try him at No.3, having travelled with the squad for the entire Australia and England tour without getting any game time.

'The No.3 position': India's unanswered question during England tour after Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan failures

As the future of Indian cricket looks bright after a thrilling win for Shubman Gill and Co. in The Oval Test, that is not the case for Indian football. Late on Monday evening (August 4), the top-tier Indian football club Bengaluru FC officially suspended the salaries of its players and first-team staff amid uncertainty over the Indian Super League (ISL). With the new football season already underway with the Durand Cup, the future of India’s top-tier football league – ISL is in limbo as All India Football Federation (AIFF) and FSDL are yet to agree on new terms of the deal.

Bengaluru FC suspends player, coach salaries
"In view of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Indian Super League season, Bengaluru Football Club has taken what is a very difficult decision of indefinitely suspending the salaries of players and staff belonging to the First Team. Running and sustaining a football club in India has always been an uphill climb, one that we have put everything aside and made, season after season," BFC said in a statement. "However, the lack of clarity on the League's future leaves us with no choice but to take this step. The future and well-being of our players, staff, and their families is of utmost importance to us, and we are in touch with them as we wait for a resolution," it added. As revealed earlier, the FSDL’s contract with AIFF for ISL came to an end last season with no new contract agreed between the parties. As part of the agreement, FSDL pays AIFF Rs 50 crore ($5.82mn) annually to oversee properties like the national team and the Indian Super League. ALSO READ | From Rohit Sharma to Virat Kohli, 5 Indian batters with most runs in Asia Cup (ODIs + T20Is) To find a way out, FSDL has reportedly suggested a new structure: a holding company to run the ISL. Under this model, the clubs would hold a 60% stake, FSDL would retain 26%, and the remaining 14% would go to AIFF. If the issue is not resolved, the future of Indian football will be in limbo as India also struggle to secure qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup. To resolve the issue, a high-stakes meeting has been called by the AIFF, as they will likely discuss the future of Indian football with FSDL.
