After the news came out of Vinesh’s disqualification on Wednesday morning in Paris, it was a big shock for her and the Indian contingent. What happened with Vinesh?
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) stated, "It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand."

Notably, Vinesh usually competes in the 53kg category, however, brought her weight down to 50kg for the showpiece event in Paris. On Day 2 of her weigh-in, the star wrestler was found weighing over the desired limit.
Reportedly, Vinesh did everything she could to bring her weight within the desired limit, however, all her efforts went in vain as this development is now a huge shock to the entire country. The whole of India was waiting for her gold medal face-off, versus USA's Sarah Hildebrandt after she became the first woman to reach the final of a wrestling event. However, fate had other plans in store.
