New Delhi, India
IPL 2024’s latest find and pace sensation, Mayank Yadav, has soreness in the lower abdominal area, his franchise’s CEO Vinod Bisht confirmed on Monday (April 8). Lucknow Super Giants’ Yadav will remain on the sidelines for a week on precautionary grounds but will return to the field soon. The lanky seamer from Delhi bowled just one over against Gujarat Titans in his last game before he complained of pain and played no further part.
"Mayank felt soreness in the lower abdominal area, and as a precaution, we are managing his workload over next week," Bisht said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. "We hope to see him soon in the field."
Mayank, who made his IPL debut this season against Punjab Kings in a home game, has been turning heads with his express pace. With Umran Malik being the only example among Indian bowlers who could click over 150 kmph, Mayank’s introduction surprised everyone.
Against PBKS, Mayank’s searing pace made headlines worldwide as he bowled at over 155 kmph – the quickest of the season. His bowling figures of three for 27 helped him bag the Player of the Match on debut. In his second game, against RCB in Bengaluru, Mayank left everyone shell-shocked by bowling rockets, again picking three for 14, winning the Player of the Match award.

Although he couldn’t repeat his heroics against Gujarat Titans with his spell, LSG’s star player in that match, Krunal Pandya (who picked 3 for 11), confirmed Mayank sounded okay; following his injury assessment, he must return to reckoning after one week.
"I don't know what is happening, but I did have a brief couple of seconds' chat [with him] - he seemed okay, which was quite a relief for us," Krunal had told the broadcaster.
"A bright prospect, I'd been watching him from the last two years. He used to [be a] gun in the nets," Krunal added. "Last year, unfortunately, missed it [due to injury]. But again, whatever conversation I have had, what I see is that he has a good head on his shoulders as well."
No Mayank against DC
Delhi Capitals would have a sigh of relief knowing Mayank will remain on the sidelines when they take on LSG on April 12 at Ekana.
LSG sits in third place on the points table with three wins from four matches.
