India vs England: Pacer James Anderson set to break Glenn McGrath's Test record

Story highlights

Anderson could beat Australian Glenn McGrath's record for most test wickets by a fast bowler.

England's star pacer James Anderson will look to surpass Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath to become the highest wicket-taking fast bowler in Test cricket.

The 36-year-old Anderson is currently at the second position of most wicket taker in Test career by a fast bowler. So far, in 257 innings, Anderson has 540 Test wickets in his name, on the other hand, Glenn McGrath has taken 563 wickets in 243 innings.

The five-match series against India is an opportunity for veteran paceman James Anderson to surpass the record of Australian great Glenn McGrath.

Last time Anderson played India on home soil in 2014, he ravaged the visitors with 25 wickets at 20.60 and a repeat performance would help him achieve the historic treble.

Anderson has said that he is feeling refreshed for the series but he may be forced to sit out at least one Test as he continues to manage a troublesome shoulder injury.

England won the one-day international series between the teams 2-1 and lost the Twenty20 competition by the same margin earlier this month.

The first test match of a 5-Test series will start from August 1 at Edgbaston.
