Paris Olympics 2024: India's Neeraj Chopra settles for silver in javelin throw; Pak's Arshad Nadeem wins gold
India's javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra wants to compete with international stars in India. His comments came after winning a silver medal in men's javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Neeraj had also won the gold medal in the same event in Tokyo 2021.
"It's a dream of mine to compete with other international stars in India. Hopefully, there will be an international competition soon in India and I can do that," Chopra said during a chat session organised by the Olympics.com, reported news agency PTI.
"I am entering a new season now. So, I don't have that much time to change training methods or technique. But I hope to improve upon a couple of areas, especially the line of the javelin. You know, the correct angle of throwing so that I get more power in my throw. I will certainly work on it," he added.
Chopra won the silver medal after registering a 89.45-metre throw on his second attempt in the final. It is to be noted that his first and last four attempts were fouls.
After the event, Chopra acknowledged support from the fans and shared a heartfelt social media post for them.
"Very proud to be on the podium for India once again at the Olympic Games. Thank you for the love and support. Jai Hind!," Neeraj wrote on his X handle.
The star Indian athlete is reportedly suffering from a groin issue and is expected to undergo surgery in the near future.
"I already threw 89.94m (in 2022) with this injury. When I throw, I always focus almost 50 per cent on my injury. We have to focus mostly on technique, but it's really hard for me with this injury," Neeraj said.
"Doctors told me to go for surgery last year. I have been stretching myself till now... There have been treatments since. But we will have to take a big decision," he added.
