France Football - the Ballond’Ororganisers aresaid to beconsidering awarding Poland and Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski with the prestigious award for missing out on the chance in 2020 due to Covid-19. The former Bayern Munich forward was in the pole position to win the most coveted individual award in football during the 2020 season, but dueto a pandemic-like situation worldwide, with several competitions getting curtailed, the organisers opted against hosting the Ballond’Orthat year.

However, Robert was heads and shoulders ahead of everyone that season, scoring a staggering 47 goals in 44 appearances (most in Europe), helping Bayern win the treble, including the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Even thoughno Ballond’Orceremony was hostedthat year, Lewandowski continued his purple patch the following season, netting 41 times in a 29-game Bundesliga season (a record then).

However, PSG superstar Lionel Messi was awarded his seventh Ballond’Ortitle that yearin a hotly-debated decision.

During his speech, The Argentine said,"Robert, you deserve your Ballond'Or."

In 2023, Messiwon his eighth Ballond’Or– the most ever, for helping Argentina win the FIFA World Cup for the third time – thefirst since 1986.

Robert's time has come, finally!

Four years later, the Ballond’Ororganisers are contemplating awarding Lewandowski the coveted prize (during the October ceremony this year) that he deserved in 2020.

Speaking on the same, Robert said he is not angry at missing out on his moment but admits he wishes tobe awardedfor his performances in those two seasons.

"Of course, I would have liked to receive the Ballond'Oraward,"Lewandowski said to Sport Bild last month."It'snot thatI'mangry or wistful because this trophy is still missing. Butmy feeling is thatit would have been my turn in one of the two years."

Meanwhile,Lewandowski’sagent recently confirmed that despite all the rumours of him leaving the club, the Polish captain continues to stay at Camp Nou for the upcoming season.
