China's OBOR: Pakistan's Gwadar port attacked, 26 injured

Unidentified men suspected to be separatist rebels in Baluchistan hurled grenades at a labourers' hostel in Pakistan's Gwadar port which is a key link for China's "One Belt and One Road" project.

The Gwadar port in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province has been developed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC) linking western China through Pakistan with the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

"They labourers were having dinner at the hostel when motorcyclists attacked them with a grenade," police official Imam Bakhsh told Reuters.

In January, China had handed over two ships to the Pakistan Navy to safeguard the strategic Gwadar port and trade routes under the $46 billion CPEC project.

The Chinese government is expected to provide two more ships to the Pakistan Navy which have been named Dasht and Zhob after two districts in Balochistan.

China has not only rebuilt the Gwadar port but also has its operational control.

It is also building a network of roads and railways to link up its remote western region to Gwadar for easier access to the Arabian Sea.
