It took the authorities over four years to tag each and every Chinar tree along with its information like status, height, girth, geographical location, etc. This will help in preserving and conserving the Chinar trees in the region.

We have around 30 thousand Chinar trees in Kashmir, and have completed tagging of around 29 thousand. We have every detail and data of the Chinars, and we have the metal tagging with a UV printed. Giving an Aadhar number to every tree ensures its safety. By scanning the QR code, you would know everything about the Chinar,&rdquo; said Dr Syed Tariq, Coordinator Projects, In Charge Bio Diversity Kashmir.

The researchers involved in the project have studied each and every Chinar in the valley. From their exact status to height, around 25 characteristics of the tree have been mentioned in the scanned list.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has captured detailed satellite images of the ongoing <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/maha-kumbh" rel="dofollow">Maha Kumbh</a> 2025, the world's largest religious gathering, in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.
The images released by ISRO show the extensive infrastructure, including the layout of tent cities, roads, and numerous pontoon bridges constructed at the Triveni Sangam.&nbsp;
The images have been captured by EOS-04 (RISAT-1A) &lsquo;C&rsquo; band microwave satellite, with its all-weather capability and fine resolution (FRS-1, 2.25 m).

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party, the Janata Dal (United), also known as JD(U), fired its Manipur unit chief Kshetrimayum Biren Singh on Wednesday (Jan 22) who claimed that the party withdrew support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the Indian state of Manipur.
Speaking to the news agency ANI, JD(U) National spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said that Singh's claim was misleading and baseless.

In a letter to Governor Kumar, Singh said, "In the election to State Assembly of Manipur held in February/March 2022, six candidates set up by Janata Dal (United) were returned. After a few months, five MLAs of Janata Dal (United) defected to BJP. The trial under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India of the five MLAs is pending before the Speaker's Tribunal."
Singh told Kumar that after the JD(U) became a part of the INDIA bloc, support to the BJP-led government (in Manipur) was withdrawn by the party by informing the office of the governor, the chief minister, and the assembly speaker.

Despite not going to school, Chalapathi was a voracious reader, fluent in Telugu, Hindi, English, and Odia. Officials said that he was considered an expert in military tactics and guerrilla warfare.
After the CPI (Maoist) was formed in 2004 with the merger of multiple underground communist groups, including the PWG, Chalapathi started moving up the ranks and became a member of the outfit's central committee, officials said.
He led the attack in Odisha's Nayagarh district in 2008, in which 13 security personnel were killed. He also set up Maoist operations in the state's Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts, expanding his network.

Republic Day 2025: Why was January 26 chosen as India's R-Day?

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday (Jan 22) released its manifesto for the Delhi assembly election while prioritising middle-class welfare.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal released the manifesto, which comprised a seven-point charter of demands for the central government to consider in the upcoming Union Budget.
He said that the middle class in the country had become a victim of tax terrorism.
"(Some) parties have created their vote bank in the name of religion and caste and they make promises for a few industrialists so that they donate money. Between this notebank (industrialists) and votebank (others), the middle class is nowhere to be seen. The middle class has been crushed between them. The middle class of India has become the ATM of the government. The truth remains that the Indian middle class is the victim of tax terrorism," Kejriwal said in a video message.
He called this one of the reasons behind brain drain.
"In 2023 itself (approximately) 2.16 lakh people have left the country," Kejriwal said, adding, "We have increased the education budget for the middle class, reduced electricity and water bills, after the elections we will implement Sanjeevani Yojana for free treatment of the elderly."

<h2>'Dedicate next budget to middle class'</h2>
Kejriwal highlighted seven demands stating that the upcoming budget should be the one for the middle class.
"We demand that the next budget of the country be dedicated to the middle class. Today I make seven demands from the central government. They should increase the education budget from two per cent to 10 per cent. The fees in private schools must be regulated," the former Delhi CM said, adding that subsidies and scholarships must be provided for higher education.

He further emphasised the need to increase the health budget stating that it should be increased to 10 per cent and the tax on health insurance should be removed.
"The income tax exemption limit should be increased from seven lakh rupees to at least 10 lakh rupees," he said, adding that Goods and Services Tax (GST) on essential commodities should be abolished.
The AAP chief also said that the Centre should start the 50 per cent concession in Railways that was earlier provided to senior citizens.
"Strong retirement plans and pension schemes should be made for senior citizens and senior citizens should be given free and good treatment in all government and private hospitals across the country," he said.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently released two new draft guidelines which were unveiled by the Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan on January 6.
The draft regulations include the &ldquo;minimum qualifications for appointment and promotion of teachers and academic staff in universities and colleges and measures for the maintenance of standards in higher education institutions.&rdquo;

The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued an order to establish containment zones in Rajouri's Budhal Village where 17 people have died in mysterious circumstances. The district magistrate of Rajouri ordered a containment strategy and Surveillance Measures for Affected Families and Close Contacts and imposed Section 163 of BNSS in view of the recent health situation in the Badhal area and to curb the further spread of infection.
The order says that all families where deaths have occurred shall be declared as Containment Zone 1. The houses of these affected families shall be sealed, and entry will be totally restricted for all individuals, including their family members unless otherwise authorised by the designated officers/officials.

<h2>Zone-wise containment</h2>
In Zone 2 of the order copy, all families identified as close contacts of affected individuals shall be declared as Containment Zone 2. Immediate shifting of individuals from these families to GMC Rajouri for continuous health monitoring is mandatory.
In Zone 3, Prohibition of Gatherings, all public and private gatherings are hereby prohibited within the jurisdiction of these containment zones in order to prevent further spread of the infection. The designated officials (already identified by the administration) shall be responsible for monitoring all meals provided to families in containment zones.

<h2>Omar Abdullah visits Budhal</h2>
The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah yesterday visited Budhal village to meet the families of the 17 individuals who tragically lost their lives in what the government has been calling mysterious deaths. Abdullah expressed profound grief and assured the bereaved families of full support and assistance from his government.
Omar Abdullah stressed that the government&rsquo;s priority is to ensure the prevention of such incidents in future and an immediate end to the spate of unfortunate deaths. He assured the public that a detailed investigation was underway to determine the cause of the tragedy.
&ldquo;The civil administration and health department are actively addressing the matter, while the police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. Additionally, a central team has been deputed and is working diligently to uncover the reasons behind this unfortunate loss of life,&rdquo; Omar Abdullah said.
The Jammu and Kashmir government consulted with many experts to understand what led to the deaths. Following extensive microbiological studies, they noted that no viral, bacterial or microbial infection had caused the deaths. These were found to be localised and possibly have some epidemiological linkage.
Certain neurotoxins were found in the samples of the deceased persons which will be further investigated.
It is pertinent to mention here that from December 7, 2024, about 17 of 38 affected persons have died in Budhal.
The tests were conducted on different samples in some of the most reputed labs in the country. These include the National Institute of Virology Pune, the National Centre for Disease Control New Delhi, the National Institute of Toxicology and Research Lucknow, Defence Research Development Establishment Gwalior, the Microbiology Department of PGIMER Chandigarh and the ICMR-Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, GMC Jammu. &nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir government had consulted many experts from the Union Territory and different parts of the country to look into the investigations and it was given out by these experts that after carrying out extensive microbiological studies no viral, bacterial or microbial infection was found to cause these deaths. These were found to be localised and possibly having some epidemiological linkage.
It was also given out that certain neurotoxins were found in the samples of the deceased persons which is under further investigation .

As per a PTI news agency report citing an official, the fresh exchange between Indian forces and the Naxalites happened late at night on Monday and early Tuesday.
It happened in a forest under the jurisdiction of the Manipur police station area along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border.

The officer said that the operation was carried out by a joint team of security personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), CoBRA from Chhattisgarh and Special Operations Group (SOG) from Odisha.
Following intelligence reports of Maoist activity in Chhattisgarh's Kularighat reserve forest, just 5 km from the border of Odisha's Nuapada district, an operation was launched on January 19th.
