In total, more than 54,000 general class tickets were booked through UTS on Saturday.&nbsp;
&ldquo;While there is no doubt that there were a huge number of people on the platform on February 15, it is still less than the total UTS tickets booked on 8 February and 29 January. On both of these days, 54,660 and 58,000 general class tickets were booked respectively. The crowd could have been managed,&rdquo; said a senior official of the Ministry of Railways.
Another official noted that the ticket sales figures may not accurately reflect the actual crowd size, as many people were rushing to take a dip in the Triveni sangam during Maha Kumbh, potentially skewing the numbers.

Days after the Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, authorities in India's capital have begun the process of cleaning Yamuna River as a video showed trash skimmers, weed harvesters and dredge utility vehicles deployed to the mighty river on Sunday (Feb 16).&nbsp;
The cleaning work started after a meeting between Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and the chief secretary of the national capital, where an immediate directive was issued to clean the Yamuna River.&nbsp;

According to the Delhi Lt Governor's Office, a four-pronged strategy has been put in place to tackle the issue comprehensively.&nbsp;
1) To begin with, the trash, garbage and silt in the Yamuna River stream will be removed.&nbsp;
2) Simultaneously, cleaning operations in the Najafgarh Drain, Supplementary Drain and all other major drains will start.
3) At the same time, a daily watch on the existing STPs in terms of their capacity and output will be maintained.&nbsp;
4) A time-bound plan in terms of construction of new STPs/DSTPs etc to meet the actual shortfall of treating about 400 MGD of sewer will be put in place and operationalised.&nbsp;

Addressing party workers after the BJP's victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, Modi also slammed the outgoing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for insulting people's faith by making no efforts to clean the Yamuna, failing to build good roads in the capital and keeping the city clean.
"I had pledged during the election campaign that we will make Yamunaji the identity of Delhi city. I know this work is difficult and will take a long time. No matter how much time is spent, how much energy is used, we will make every effort to serve the Yamuna," the prime minister said at the victory celebrations at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters.&nbsp;

The previous flight, which arrived on Saturday, carried 119 Indians, 100 of whom were from Punjab and Haryana. Some of these deportees claimed they were handcuffed and chained during their journey back to India. This has sparked a strong backlash within Indian political circles.

On Sunday, the Congress criticised Prime Minister Modi for not raising concerns with Trump over the treatment of deported Indians. "Despite his close ties with Trump, Modi failed to address the outrage over Indians being shackled on their way back," the party alleged.

We had entered the into BRI in 2017, it is just formalization and laying out how the process will forward. Indian Railways announces special trains and safety measures for Maha Kumbh 2025 travel

At least 18 people lost their lives in a tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday (Feb 15) night, triggered by overcrowding due to delayed trains and the arrival of a special Express train for Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. 
Among the victims, 11 were women and four were children. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

She added, "We were travelling to Chhapra, Bihar, but I don&rsquo;t know which train I was supposed to board. I only came here after hearing that the bodies were kept at the hospital."

Delhi Police said, "There were four other trains heading to Prayagraj, and three of them were delayed, which led to unexpected overcrowding."

<h2>Passenger slipped on stairs</h2>
A different explanation was provided by a senior railway official, who suggested that the stampede was triggered when a passenger slipped on a stairway leading to platforms 14 and 15.
Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, explained, "When the incident happened, the Magadh Express to Patna was at platform 14, and the Uttar Sampark Kranti to Jammu was at platform 15. A passenger slipped on the stairs, and the people behind him lost balance, leading to the tragic stampede."
He further said, "No train was cancelled, nor was there any platform change. A high-level committee is investigating the matter, and normal operations have resumed at the station."

To uncover the exact cause of the disaster, the Railways has set up a two-member high-level committee. The investigation is being led by Narsingh Deo, Principal Chief Commercial Manager of Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Northern Railway.
The committee has ordered the retrieval of all CCTV footage from the railway station to aid in the probe.
Authorities are expected to release their findings soon, as families of the victims demand answers.

Former Union Railway Minister and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Sunday (Feb 16), condemned the 'mismanagement' by the Indian Railways

'Who will take responsibility': Opposition slams centre over New Delhi railway station stampede

A US military aircraft, with 119 Indian immigrants aboard, landed in Amritsar on Saturday night (Feb 15).
One of the deportees has now claimed that they were handcuffed and their legs were chained during the flight.
"Our legs were chained and hands were also cuffed," Daljit Singh told reporters in Hoshiarpur according to news agency PTI.
A C-17 aircraft landed at Amritsar International Airport around 11:40 pm on Saturday, carrying the second batch of 119 Indian deportees from the US. This deportation is part of the Donald Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants, which began earlier this month. The first batch of 104 Indians was deported on February 5, and a third batch of 157 deportees is expected to arrive in India on Sunday (Feb 17).
<h2>Two deportees arrested</h2>
Following the immigration and background checks of the deportees upon their return, two of them were immediately arrested by the police.
Cousin brothers, Sandeep Singh alias Sunny and Pradeep Singh, from Rajpura in Patiala district, were wanted in a murder case registered in Rajpura in the year 2023.
The police stated that the two accused were charged under sections 302, 307, 323, 506, 148, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code in connection with a murder case registered on June 26, 2023, by the Patiala Police. However, authorities clarified that no 'Look Out Circular' was issued against the duo.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to the United States, met President Donald Trump where he stated that the ones living illegally in any other country, "do not have any legal right to be there,"
He further said his country was ready to take back its citizens living in America illegally.
While condemning illegal immigration, Modi said it is a symptom of a bigger disease.
He said, "As far as India and the US are concerned, we have always said that those who are verified and are truly the citizens of India &mdash; if they live in the US illegally, India is ready to take them back."

We attach great importance to our relationship with India. There used to be lot of trade between Iran and India. There have been ups and down, strong determination between the 2 sides to strengthen ties, we continue to do so. Problems are not because of Iran, India but because of 3rd parties, we have always trying to be creative on how to tackle those problems, how India and Iran can enjoy good relationship. Seyed Abbas Araghchi: we have 10 year agreement with India on Chabahar port. We know that there has been questions raised by the 3rd party, we know Indians are in consultations with Americans on this. So we leave it to our friends, to decide. As far as we are concerned, Chabahar port is very important port that connects India to Iran, to central Asia and other places. It has strategic importance for both of us. There is determination from both sides to work, to have cooperation especially through Chabahar. There is 10 year cooperation, so let's see how we tackle those problems.

We know that there has been questions raised by the 3rd party, we know Indians are in consultations with Americans on this. So we leave it to our friends, to decide. As far as we are concerned, Chabahar port is very important port that connects India to Iran, to central Asia and other places. It has strategic importance for both of us. There is determination from both sides to work, to have cooperation especially through Chabahar. There is 10 year cooperation, so let's see how we tackle those problems.
