"The only right you have under the Constitution is to interpret the Constitution under Article 145(3). There, it has to be five judges when Article 145(3) was there, the number of judges in the Supreme Court was eight, 5 out of 8, now 5 out of 30 odd more," the VP wrote in his X post.&nbsp;

It is the law of the land that every cognizable offence is required to be reported to the police, and failure to do so, failure to report a cognizable offence, is a crime; therefore, you all will be wondering why there has been no FIR," said the Vice President.

The VP said that every India was concerned about the "immunity" judges hold.

State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa outlined that the Policy is built on three pillars: attracting investments of ₹10,000 crore into Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s space sector, creating at least 10,000 high-value jobs, and building a future-ready skilled workforce in space technologies and services.
This policy is not just for manufacturing, it will also focus on space-tech services and downstream innovation. This will open doors for startups, MSMEs and large players alike, Rajaa added. As of now, the State Cabinet led by Chief Minister MK Stalin has approved the Space Policy and the final Policy document will be unveiled later.&nbsp;

Likewise, the Tamil Nadu Government would offer a 50 per cent subsidy for the firms that wish to file patents.&nbsp;

Meant to specifically launch India's smallest and newest rocket -the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), this upcoming facility is situated in Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district. Thus far, the spaceport in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, is India's lone gateway to space.

The site is now ready for the commencement of the construction of the Upper Stage Assembly Facilities (UAF-I &amp; UAF-II) for the preparation of the second and third stages of the 3-staged SSLV vehicle, along with a Launch Service Building (LSB), ISRO had said.&nbsp;
The launch complex planned at Kulasekarapattinam is primarily to address the polar launches (towards the South Pole) of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), which is capable of launching small satellites weighing up to 500 kg. The SSLV rocket has had three flights so far and has completed what ISRO terms the 'development phase'. Henceforth, the vehicle will perform operational missions. The upcoming spaceport is also meant to cater to SSLV-class rockets being built by Indian startups.&nbsp;
<h2>Why does India need a second spaceport?</h2>
While the existing spaceport at Sriharikota is ideal for launching heavier rockets towards the east (equatorial orbits), a major challenge crops up when launching ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle and similar small rockets. When a rocket travels towards the South Pole from Sriharikota, the rocket would have to overfly the island nation of Sri Lanka. Given the immense risk of overflying a country, India's rockets are programmed to perform a manoeuvre to avoid the Lankan landmass. So, instead of flying in a straight line trajectory, the rocket is programmed to follow a curved path and take a turn.

While larger rockets can perform this manoeuvre without much impact on the rocket's payload carrying capacity, smaller rockets such as SSLV would lose a lot of fuel doing so. Losing fuel for the turn manoeuvre would mean that the rocket's payload carrying capacity is reduced, thereby affecting its cost efficiency.&nbsp;
Which is why India had been looking for a location from where the smaller rockets could be launched in a straight line, without the risk of overflying Lanka.&nbsp;
Situated in Tamil Nadu's southern region, Kulasekarapattinam's unique location helps SSLV-class rockets save on fuel and fly a straight approach towards the south pole. Given that smaller rockets are easier to build, assemble and launch in less time, it is important for India to have a dedicated spaceport for such smaller rockets. In order to create an ecosystem of allied industries near the upcoming spaceport, the Tamil Nadu Government is also establishing a Propellant park near the upcoming facility.&nbsp;

The launch complex planned at Kulasekarapattinam is primarily to address the polar launches (towards the South Pole) of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), which is capable of launching small satellites weighing up to 500 kg. The Central government on Thursday (April 17) assured the three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court- Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justices PV Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan - that non-Muslim appointments would not be made to the Central Waqf Council or the State Waqf Boards in the interim. The Centre also said that provisions on de-notifying properties declared as waqf by courts will not be acted upon for the time being.
The three-judge Bench hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 was also assured by the government that it would refrain from denotifying properties previously declared as waqf by courts until the matter is next heard on May 5.
<h2>Centre given time to file reply</h2>
The apex court granted the Centre a week to file its reply over the petitions challenging the validity of the Waqf Amendment Act, after which the petitioners will be granted five days to review the reply.
According to the petitioners, the waqfs &mdash; including their creation, management, and administration are an integral practice of Islam and therefore should be protected under the constitution.
However, the government argues that the amendments are aimed at ensuring greater transparency and accountability.
<h2>The new law</h2>
The &nbsp;Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 was passed in the Lok Sabha on April 3, while the Rajya Sabha cleared it on April 4. On April 5 the amendment Act received Presidential assent.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has hit out at the BJP and said those digging up the graves of Mughals should look for the relatives and heirs of the Rajput's as these Mughals used to make relations with Rajputs only and not the families of poor Muslims.&nbsp;

Chinmay and other plaintiffs had their student immigration status in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) terminated abruptly and unlawfully &ldquo;without sufficient notice and explanation,&rdquo; it said.
The SEVIS database tracks information about non-immigrant students and exchange scholars in the US.

The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday expressed its intention to issue an interim order granting a stay on some parts of the amended Waqf law, but put it on hold at the last minute after the Central government and the states requested more time to furnish their arguments on the three points raised by the court.&nbsp; The three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Vishwanathan, was hearing a bunch of over 70 petitions challenging the Waqf Act. The bench earlier considered referring the pleas to one high court but later heard a battery of senior advocates, including Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Singhvi, Rajeev Dhavan and solicitor general Tushar Mehta, who represented the Centre. &ldquo;Normally we don&rsquo;t pass such interim orders, but this is an exception,&rdquo; said Justice Khanna. At this point, the centre and the states objected against an interim order and sought more time. The bench will hear the matter again at 2 pm on Thursday (April 17). CJI Khanna also raised concerns over the way some properties have been classified as Waqf. &ldquo;We have been told the Delhi high court building is on Waqf land, Oberoi Hotel is on Waqf land&hellip; We are not saying all Waqf-by-user properties are wrongly registered, but there are some genuine areas of concern too,&rdquo; he observed.

The court&rsquo;s three concerns were: the validity of &lsquo;Waqf by user&rsquo; properties declared earlier by court decrees which now may become void; having non-Muslims as majority members in Waqf Council; and pending enquiry by the collector on disputed Waqf property, the declaration that the same will not be treated as Waqf property.
&ldquo;The properties declared by courts as waqfs should not be de-notified as waqfs, whether they are by waqf-by-user or waqf by deed, while the court is hearing the challenge to the Waqf Amendment Act 2025,&rdquo; the bench said. The top court went on, &ldquo;All Members of the Waqf boards and central Waqf Council must be Muslims, except the ex-officio members.&rdquo;
The apex court said when a public trust was declared to be a waqf 100 or 200 years ago, it couldn&rsquo;t suddenly be taken over by the waqf board and declared otherwise. &ldquo;You cannot rewrite the past,&rdquo; the bench said.
<h2>Waqf by user&nbsp;</h2>
Sibal mentioned &lsquo;Waqf by user&rsquo;&mdash;a provision under which a property is treated as Waqf based on its long-term use for religious or charitable purposes, even without formal documentation. The new law adds an exemption: this won&rsquo;t apply to properties that are in dispute or are government land.
Sibal said that &lsquo;Waqf by user&rsquo; is an integral part of Islam. &ldquo;The problem is, if a waqf was created 3,000 years ago, they will ask for the deed,&rdquo; he said. The CJI asked SG Mehta to focus on the &lsquo;Waqf by user&rsquo; provisions in the new law. &ldquo;Are you saying that if a &lsquo;Waqf by user&rsquo; was established by a (court) judgment or otherwise, today it stands void?&rdquo;&nbsp; He mentioned that many mosques part of Waqf were built in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries and it is impossible to present documents for them.
The court then asked, &ldquo;How will you register such Waqfs by user? What documents will they have? It will lead to undoing something. Yes, there is some misuse. But there are genuine ones also. I have gone through privy council judgments also. Waqf by user is recognised. If you undo it then it will be a problem. Legislature cannot declare a judgment, order or decree as void,&rdquo; the bench said.
<h2>&lsquo;Will Muslims be on Hindu Boards? Say it openly&rsquo;: SC to Centre</h2>
The court then flagged the provision to include non-Muslims on the Central Waqf Council and asked the government if it would allow Muslims to be part of Hindu endowment boards.
The CJI asked: &ldquo;Mr Mehta, are you saying you will allow Muslims to be part of Hindu endowment boards? Say it openly&rdquo;.
The Chief Justice, however, noted that the positive points in the law must be highlighted.&nbsp;
The Centre recently notified the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which got the assent of President Droupadi Murmu on April 5 after its passage in both houses of Parliament. Among those who challenged the law are leaders of the opposition parties including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, DMK, CPI and BJP ally Janata Dal United. Religious organisations and NGOs like Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board have also filed their objections.&nbsp;

After the conclusion of hearing, CJI Khanna expressed concern over the violence that has broken out in West Bengal against the amendments to Waqf Act. &ldquo;One thing is very disturbing is the violence that is taking place. If the matter is pending here it should not happen,&rdquo; the CJI said.

Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified operations against cybercrime and have over 20,000 such bank accounts on their radar. More than 50 people have been detained for the investigation of the case.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police revealed that 7200 bank accounts were flagged, while the number could go further to over 20,000 accounts. The transaction amounts have not yet been disclosed by the investigative agencies, but reports suggest that they could be in crores.
These &lsquo;mule accounts&rsquo; are basically a third-party account used by cybercriminals to obscure the black money trail. The scammers recruit people via social media platforms to open these bank accounts, and these are kept active for a short period of time. During this time, illicit funds are deposited, and the accounts are swiftly closed.

Mule accounts are those accounts that are used for cyber fraud on a rental basis. The cybercriminals give commission to these account holders. We approached I4C, which is the cyber coordination centre, and with their help we managed to identify 3400 accounts, and later we managed to unmask 7200 accounts. We have initiated proceedings against 50 people, two kingpins have been arrested, and we are sure more arrests will be taking place in the coming time. The investigations are on,&rdquo; said Iftikhar Talib, SP Cyber Cell, Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have filed four FIRs in this case so far. All the people detained will be questioned and investigated about who directed them to do so.&nbsp;
As all accounts require signatures and official documentation of the account holder, the people got alarmed on noticing big transactions in their accounts. A lot of them reached out to a social activist, who became a whistleblower and took them to the police and civil administration.

These victims told me that our accounts have had transactions of around one million Indian rupees and above, and our accounts have a debit freeze. They told me that they got links via social media from some local people who told them that if they fill in account details, they will be given a daily commission of Rs 5000 or Rs 10,000, depending on the transactions. I took them to the police and civil administration and filed a case. I am glad that SSP Srinagar took action and identified 7200 mule accounts. I am sure there are over 20,000 plus such accounts,&rdquo; said Harris, a social activist.
Some victims who got lured into the cybercrime racket recall that they gave the bank account details on the premise that they would be paid money, but after they shared the details, all the money was withdrawn from their accounts.
