India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that New Delhi would continue “endeavouring to forge new trade arrangements” but only under a firmly “people-centric vision”, as the country climbs the global economic ladder amid growing uncertainty in world trade. Speaking after being conferred an honorary doctorate by the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Dr Jaishankar painted a picture of a fragmenting global order in which traditional rule-makers are rewriting the script. “The United States, long the underwriter of the contemporary system, has set radically new terms of engagement. Not just that, it is doing so by dealing with countries on a one-on-one basis, rather than through regimes. China has long played by its own rules and is now doing so, even more,” he said. As we ascend the global economic hierarchy, the case for them will only get stronger,” Dr Jaishankar told the audience of students, faculty. Yet he stressed caution: “These exercises have long-term repercussions and therefore, need to be embarked upon with great judiciousness. The speech comes as India negotiates or implements trade agreements with the US, UK, Australia, the UAE, EFTA countries and others, while remaining outside larger blocs such as RCEP.

It is likely to continue moving north-northwestwards and head towards North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Andhra Pradesh by Sunday, (30th Nov).&nbsp;&nbsp;As per the rainfall data shared by the IMD on Saturday morning, some parts of Nagapattinam district received between 11-25cms of rainfall in a period of 24hours. Several other locations across the state received 4-10cms of rainfall.&nbsp;For Saturday and Sunday, the IMD has warned of heavy-very heavy(7-20cms) or extremely heavy(over 21cms) rainfall at a few locations in Tamil Nadu. This includes Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, among others. For Sunday, the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in Chennai and adjoining districts.&nbsp;&nbsp;Owing to very rough sea conditions along the Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast, IMD has warned fishermen against venturing out to sea until Sunday, (30th Nov). The Northeast monsoon caters for about 50% or more of the annual rainfall in Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;This season is known for cyclonic storms or weather systems that form in the Bay of Bengal, which can lead to very heavy rainfall and potential flooding in parts of Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh. The team of Assam Rifles established a vehicle check post, which intercepted the suspected vehicle carrying drugs. During the search operation, 5.421 Kgs of Methamphetamine Tablets worth ₹16.26 Crores were recovered from Thangtinsei, son of Zamhau and a resident of Moreh, Manipur. Recovered contraband along with the apprehended individual were handed over to the Saitual Police for detailed investigation and further legal proceedings. Earlier on November 26, the Assam Rifles seized methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 13.33 crore during an operation near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram's Champhai district. According to the Assam Rifles, the operation was launched on November 25 following specific intelligence inputs about possible narcotics movement along World Bank Road in the Zokhawthar area, a key transit point for cross-border trafficking. A team from the force conducted surveillance in the area and detected suspicious activity, prompting immediate action. During the subsequent search, security personnel recovered 4.444 kg of methamphetamine tablets. The substance, classified as a psychotropic drug under Indian law, is among the most trafficked narcotics in the region due to its high demand in international markets. One individual, identified as Bawi Kanthanga, a male national of Myanmar, was apprehended at the site. Initial assessment indicates that the consignment was likely part of a larger trafficking network operating across the porous border. The relevant authorities will conduct further investigations and interrogations. Assam Rifles stated that the seized narcotics were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for detailed examination and initiation of legal proceedings as per existing regulations. Zokhawthar, located along the India-Myanmar border, has witnessed several narcotics-related incidents in recent years. Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has announced a statewide crackdown to cancel thousands of birth and death certificates issued solely on the basis of Aadhaar. 

This comes after incidents and cases of widespread fraud involving forged documents to obtain government benefits came to light. 

In some cases, fraud also involved in cases like encroach land, facilitate activities posing national security risks.

Fourteen districts have been identified as where majority of frauds have happened. These include Amravati, Akola, Sillod, Sambhajinagar city, Latur, Anjangaon Surji, Achalpur, Pusad, Parbhani, Beed, Gevrai, Jalna, Ardhapur and Parli.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed that the campaign aims to recover all defective certificates and delete their entries from the Civil Registration System portal. 

According to the circular, Aadhaar cannot be treated as standalone proof of date or place of birth. 

This aligns with central government guidelines, which clearly state that Aadhaar is not to be used as evidence for establishing birth information in any legal or official matter. 

According to the directive, Certificates issued only based on Aadhaar are to be cancelled immediately, and original documents must be recovered from beneficiaries. 

If a beneficiary cannot be traced or fails to surrender the certificate, police assistance must be sought, and the individual may be declared absconding.

A 16-point verification procedure has now been issued to all Divisional Commissioners, District Collectors, Tehsildars and urban local bodies.

Officials have also been instructed to verify delayed birth entries issued without proper Tehsildar approval. Any certificate found to be invalid must be cancelled. 

Applications suspended across the state must now be reviewed under the Public Health Department's rules, and discrepancies between an application and the Aadhaar date of birth will lead to immediate FIR registration. 

The government has clarified that the campaign will continue until all fraudulent or improperly issued certificates are cancelled, recovered and documented under the revised verification protocol.
