Sri Lanka's Health Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa has praised India for its swift assistance following the devastating Cyclonic Storm Ditwah, which struck the island in late November 2025, causing widespread flooding and landslides. In an interview with WION's Sidhant Sibal, Dr Jayatissa highlighted India's role in tackling post-disaster health challenges, particularly the risk of communicable diseases. "I take this opportunity to thank, once again, the Indian government and the people of India for the support they delivered us during this hard moment," he said. "They helped in relief activities as well in the health sector. Medical groups have been working in India, supporting us in critical areas."India launched Operation Sagar Bandhu, deploying field hospitals, medical teams, essential supplies and equipment to aid recovery efforts. Dr Jayatissa noted ongoing collaboration under two memorandums of understanding signed earlier, emphasising India's consistent support during crises.On pharmaceutical cooperation, the minister invited Indian firms to invest in local manufacturing. "We have a nearly 600 million USD pharma industry, 85% of our pharmaceutical requirement we are getting from India," he explained. "It's better if they can start their manufacturing sites in Sri Lanka. The children were reportedly administered HIV-infected blood during transfusions at government facilities in Satna. The incident has put the country’s blood banking system in the dock, raising concerns of systemic failure and administrative collapse.&nbsp;This comes just months after some children in Jharkhand contracted HIV while blood transfusion in a government hospital in the state.&nbsp;The children suffering from thalassemia major-a genetic blood disorder that requires regular blood transfusion- were given a total of 189 units of blood, sourced from three different blood banks, reported NDTV. Later, at the hotel, the Prime Minister was welcomed by the Indian community members. Various dances, including Omani Traditional Dance, Blend of Indian classical, Kuchipudi and Kathak, Rajasthan Ghoomer, Karnataka Folk Dance – Yakshana and Bollywood free style were performed by students and others. A Gujarati song was also sung. 
 
At ‘X’, Mr Modi said, Oman is a land of enduring friendship and deep historical connections with India. He said this visit offers an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and add fresh momentum to the partnership between both countries.
 
During his two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold a comprehensive review of the entire spectrum of the bilateral relations with the Sultan of Oman tomorrow and also exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest. He is expected to address business leaders from both countries at a business forum.
 
PM Modi will also interact with students and members of the Indian community who are eagerly waiting for his arrival. The Prime Minister is visiting the friendly nation on the invitation of the Head of State of the Sultanate of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Mr. Modi is accompanied by a high-level delegation.
 
This visit is of great significance as it will be taking place when India and Oman are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

Later, members of the Indian diaspora accorded the India Prime Minister a vibrant reception at his hotel.
