Randhir Jaiswal also announced that Indian embassies and consulates in each country in the region have set up a 24×7 helpline. I've just been having a meeting with the foreign minister of Mauritius, and we've been talking about how we can work together to mitigate the impact that this crisis is having already, and we're concerned that if it continues, it could have more serious impact on our countries if we do not take measures right now. Already, in Seychelles, we established a framework that enables the Cabinet of ministers to be informed by an economic monitoring group, what is happening on a regular basis, and we are involving the whole of society. We advocate for that, we ask all parties to choose peace over war.WION: How do you see Seychelles-India ties in the context of your President's recent visit?&nbsp; Barry Faure: It's one of the best visits ever, I think that has been done by a head of state, and that was the first visit of our head of state, since he was elected in October last year, which shows the importance of this relationship, which is a strategic partnership relationship between India and Seychelles, there were some important announcements which were made, and I can assure you that these are not just declarations that we are moving to full implementation. Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Seychelles in June to celebrate the 50th anniversary since our independence and since the establishment of diplomatic relations, which again, is a strong indicator of the level of the relationship between our two countries.

WION: What is your focus here in India? And essentially, how do you see the India-Norway relationship, which has seen a lot of high-level engagements? Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik: We have a very strong and robust relationship with India, and this was consolidated and advanced now with this free trade agreement, which gives predictability for our enterprise. I'm here to have conversations about that, to find ways for us to collaborate even further on commercial for commercial purposes, but obviously, given the ascendancy of India on the world stage, it's important for us to discuss geopolitical topics. I've been saying that no solution to any global problem can be found without the participation of India. We are discussing UN reform, reforming the WTO, upholding respect for international law, how we can find sustainable solutions to the climate crisis, and the recent attacks by the US and Israel against Iran. So we're essentially here to discuss all kinds of issues with official representation from India, but also with stakeholders and individuals. I was at a university here in India to give a lecture on Norwegian foreign policy. How do you think that this war is going to impact global stability? What is the perspective of Norway? Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik: Well, I think you're entirely right. I think the last thing that the Middle East needs now is another war, and this is, of course, a big war between the US and Israel on the one side, and Iran on the other. This war has already escalated. Other countries are now implicated, having been targeted by Iran. Our sympathies, first and foremost, are with the Iranian people. They have been brutalised by a very repressive, authoritarian Iranian regime, and now they're taking heat again in terms of being in the middle of this very brutal military conflict. We have also said very clearly that we want to see international law respected, and we don't think that the attacks by the US and Israel were in line with international law. We flag that as a concern, but obviously, we're equally concerned or more concerned, about the way in which Iran has responded. But the most important thing now is to find a peaceful solution to this conflict so we can avoid upsetting global markets and to come back to a situation of stability in not just a region, but in the international community.WION: Do you think that this war is somehow upending the international relationship? Because the worry in the global south is whatever Iran is doing, what the Americans did by attacking a head of government, by killing a head of government, is shocking. Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik: Well, I don't think that that's only a concern for capitals in the Global South. It's also something that we have flagged as a concern, not just in the context of Iran, but also in terms of Venezuela and the apprehension of the Venezuelan President Maduro. This is a clear principle which is protected under international law, that heads of States have immunity, and we think that should be respected. Having said that, there are also other principles that should be respected, such that Iran and the Iranian regime should not brutalise its own population. So you have various principles now being undermined by various governments, and we will continue to speak out against those kinds of violations. Our first and foremost priority now is to help bring about a peaceful resolution to this problem. We are speaking to all parties in order to see if there's anything we can do to facilitate a peaceful outcome.WION: Talking about the war in Europe, it's been more than four years now. Where do you think the situation is heading? Do you see an off-ramp coming, or do you see the stalemate continuing? Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik: Well, it's difficult to say. Our starting point is very clear. We have said, and we have condemned to the fullest extent possible the Russian aggression, which is a blatant violation of the UN Charter. We have supported Ukraine with military means, economic support, also political support, obviously, and we will continue to do so. We recognise that the parties need to come to a conclusion. We have said that we will support whatever outcome the Ukrainians are satisfied with. It should be a just and lasting peace. I think there have been constructive conversations between the parties. That's a good thing, but thus far, a resolution has not been found, and we will continue to support Ukraine up until a resolution is identified, and we'll see if that can be identified in the near future or in the medium to long term. But our support for Ukraine is unwavering.WION: How will the TEPA trade and India EU trade agreement help the global community? Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik: Well, we think trade is beneficial to countries. So the fact that India has been able to enter into these enormous trade agreements with the EU, with EFTA and other entities, that's an important step forward for us. This is beneficial. It provides predictability to our enterprises and to our commercial community in Norway. I think it's also beneficial to Indian consumers and Indian enterprises. So I think it's another example of ETFA countries, and Norway just deepening and broadening its relationship with India. We see India as an ascending major power in the global community, and for us, it's important to collaborate with India in as many areas as possible, also in the economic space, and we're doing that, and this agreement will be a very important vehicle to drive that collaboration.

As far as economic partnership is concerned, we have the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement under which we are dealing with India. There are a number of trade exchanges with India. India has always been very forthcoming when it comes to assistance. The Prime Minister of India was in Mauritius&nbsp;last year, and we were given quite a big financial package in terms of lines of credit and also grants for our infrastructural development. So, as it has always been, India and Mauritius are very closely linked together. Sidhant Sibal: What can one expect in the relationship? Further, you pointed out that the Prime Minister was here for the AI Summit Dr Dhananjay Ramful: So the prime minister Mauritius was here a few weeks back in February for the AI Summit, and where he had a bilateral meeting with his Excellency, the Prime Minister Modi, and where there were discussions about India, America cable submarine. Our own cable submarine has now reached its expired date. So there was a request for that submarine to be extended to Mauritius. So this is under process. There were also talks, and this comes at the right moment, because there were talks about trying to get a G2G with India for the supply of petroleum products. So, as you know, we get our supply of products from, mainly Oman and the Middle East. So we were thinking of getting a G2G from one of the oil refineries here in India. And so that's an upcoming project that we'll be discussing about. Sidhant Sibal: So if you can perhaps talk about your assessment, your view about the West Asia war? Dr Dhananjay Ramful: Indian Ocean region is important for the economic survival of all the coastal states&nbsp;bordering the Indian Ocean. Especially for a small island developing state like Mauritius, which is highly dependent on the marine resources from the ocean, and also, definitely that's going to have an impact on the supply of energy. Also the food security issue might crop up because we import most of our food from abroad, and also being a tourist destination. Sidhant Sibal:&nbsp;Mauritius has suspended its relationship with Maldives. What's the reason for it? Dr Dhananjay Ramful: It was quite an exceptional decision, but then we had reached a point where we couldn't do otherwise, because Mauritius has been claiming its sovereignty over the Chagos archipelago for many years now. We have aligned our claim for sovereignty with international law. We've gone to the International Court of Justice, where we have obtained an advisory opinion from the highest court of justice saying that continued administration of the Chagos island by the British was unlawful, and we even had UN resolution backed by all the countries except Six, and amongst them, the Maldives were voted against, and where the UN said that the Chagos should be handed over to Mauritius in six months. So then there were negotiations. The British offered to negotiate the ceding back of the Chagos to Mauritius. We started negotiations, then we signed an agreement, where the British accepted that Mauritius has full sovereignty of the Chagos, but there were certain modalities that were put in the agreement.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now it's a question of waiting for ratification of the treaty, because, from the British point of view, this treaty needs to be ratified in the parliament. We are waiting for ratification of the treaty. But in the meantime, we see Maldives coming out from nowhere, and for the first time, claiming that they have a claim over the Chagos. In August 2022 the previous government, representing the government of Maldives, wrote to our previous Prime Minister, saying that, following the UN resolution, they will back Mauritius on any resolution concerning our claim for sovereignty over the Chagos Island.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now, all of a sudden, you see the present president coming up with all sorts of arguments and inventions saying that apparently there were, in the past, fishermen from the Maldives who were going on the one of the islands in the Chagos Archipelago, therefore, historically, they have claims to the Chagos island. But that would apply to Mauritius as well. You know, in 1500-1400 the Arabs came to Mauritius to get fresh water. Therefore, do we say that the Arabs now own Mauritius.&nbsp;So these kinds of arguments are provocation and, but as far as Mauritius is concerned, we are very serious about this issue, and we are not going to let ourselves be provoked in any way when it comes to our sovereignty and territorial integrity. Sidhant Sibal:&nbsp; But it looks like Donald Trump is vetoing this agreement, which was an outcome of long conversation negotiations. There is a kind of a slowdown in the British Parliament as well. When it comes to this negotiation, it looks like, what's your assessment like? Dr Dhananjay Ramful:&nbsp;It should be highlighted that, you know, the US, definitely, they have a base on the one of the islands called&nbsp;Diego Garcia, and in the agreement that we've signed with the British, there are all the conditions and modalities to preserve the security of that base. This was agreeable by the British and was ratified by the US, from what the British told us, but we have all along been dealing with the British because it was the British who are administering the island. So we don't want to get involved in the conversations or whatever discussions there are between the British and the US. Our claim is against the British. The British have promised for the ceding back of the island to Mauritius. They have put it on paper. It's a question of ratification of the treaty. We do understand that there are some domestic politics that are, in a way, delaying the ratification process. Even the British Prime Minister said publicly that he is for the ceding back of Chagos to Mauritius. Sidhant Sibal: Diego Garcia, Donald Trump is keen that the British side supports his plans when it comes to fighter jets going from Diogo Garcia and making strikes in West Asia, in Iran. What's your assessment like when it comes to the Indian Ocean Island being used with the American and the UK base are situated for conflict in West Asia. We've already seen the expansion of the conflict Dr Dhananjay Ramful:&nbsp;Mauritius has since the start of the Middle East crisis, issued an official statement asking for all parties to put a halt to the fight and come to the table and use the diplomatic channel to resolve their differences. When it comes to using Diego Garcia, that's for the British to decide, because, for the time being it's the British that are administering the island pending the ratification of the agreement in their parliament. So that's a question internal to the British government.

Approval was granted on March 1, and IRIS Lavan subsequently docked at Kochi on March 4. Its crew of 183 personnel are currently being accommodated at naval facilities in Kochi. IRIS Lavan, a Hengam-class landing ship commissioned in January 1985, is primarily used for amphibious sealift and logistics operations in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters.&nbsp;The vessel was part of a group of three Iranian ships that travelled to India to participate in IFR-2026 off Visakhapatnam in mid-February. The contingent included the Bandar Abbas-class fleet support ship IRIS Bushehr and the Moudge-class frigate IRIS Dena. The international naval event, reviewed by President Droupadi Murmu on February 18, brought together ships from dozens of countries, including the United States, Russia and Iran, as part of a display of maritime cooperation.&nbsp;However, the return voyage turned tragic for IRIS Dena. While the scheme will continue, no increase in the monthly assistance amount was announced this year.&nbsp;Infrastructure development remained a major focus, particularly in the Mumbai metropolitan region. Amid renewables push, India’s largest facility to test windmill gearboxes unveiled

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday that social media will be banned for children below the age of 16 years in the state that is known for its IT sector and houses India’s Silicon Valley, Bengaluru. The Karnataka government is proposing the ban amid rising concerns of digital addiction and becoming one of the first Indian states to impose such a restriction. Concerns have been rising over online safety and excessive screen time among minors. CM Siddaramaiah made the announcement while presenting his 17th state budget.&nbsp;&nbsp;“Social media will be banned for children under the age of 16 to prevent the adverse effects of increasing mobile usage. Two Indian Air Force pilots were killed after a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet crashed in a remote hill region in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. The tragic incident happened during a routine training mission when the aircraft went missing at 7:42 pm on Thursday (Mar 5) after taking off from the Jorhat Air Base. The Indian Air Force acknowledged the death of two pilots, who sustained fatal injuries.“IAF acknowledges the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the Su-30 crash. In an update earlier, IAF said that the plane had crashed about 60 kilometres away from Jorhat. According to reports, residents heard a loud explosion and saw smoke rising from the hills near Inglong Ekopi.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.“Deeply saddened by the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar in the tragic Su-30 crash. Their courage and service to the nation will always be remembered with pride and gratitude. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
