The Srinagar Police has launched a major crackdown on what it described as a coordinated network of fake news and misinformation operating across electronic and social media platforms.

In an official statement, the police said they had taken serious note of the deliberate circulation of false, fabricated, and misleading information by certain news channels, media outlets, and individuals. Authorities allege that such content was being systematically disseminated to spread distorted narratives and unverified claims with the intent to incite unrest, disturb public order and create social disharmony. Calling the development a “grave threat” to peace and security, police confirmed that FIR No. 01/2026 has been registered at the Cyber Police Station under relevant legal provisions. Several online profiles have been identified in connection with the case, and the individuals concerned have been summoned to the Cyber Cell for questioning. Officials said the investigation is currently underway and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in spreading misinformation.

The police also issued a public advisory, cautioning citizens and media organisations against sharing unverified or inflammatory content. “Spreading fake news or unconfirmed information will invite stringent legal consequences,” the statement said, urging the public to rely only on official and credible sources before circulating content that could disturb communal harmony or public order. Police remain resolute in maintaining law &amp; order and will not allow any attempt to destabilise peace in the region.

Keeping this in mind, changes were made in the current Dilli Laadli Yojana to incorporate financial benefits.<h2>Benefits offered under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana</h2> The government will deposit money in the account of the girl child made for the scheme at different stages of her life. The first one would be given at the time of birth, when Rs 11,000 will be given under the scheme. Rs 5,000 will be deposited when she reaches the first standard. The same amount would be credited when she reaches Class 6, 9, 10 and then 12. The final sum of Rs 20,000 will be deposited after she graduates from college or gets a diploma. The entire amount with interest will reach Rs 1 lakh or more by the age of 21.&nbsp;<h2>Who is eligible for Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana</h2> Only families whose yearly income is below Rs 1.2 lakh can avail benefits under the scheme. This means the monthly income should be Rs 10,000 or less. Besides, they should be residents of Delhi for at least three years at the time of starting the scheme. The girl child should have also received all vaccinations as per government norms. The benefits can be availed for only up to two daughters in one family.&nbsp;<h2>When will the amount be given to the girl?</h2> The money will be given when the girl turns 18 years of age, or it can also be extended till she turns 21. Stéphane Dion: When you have difficulties between two countries, it's usually the case that you have mistakes done to both sides. I think maybe, indeed, you're right, Canada should not have intervened in Parliament and said, we have some evidence that are very worrying about what some services of the government of India are doing. We should have said, there is an investigation, and we will stay mute about the investigation. Maybe so, but the government of India should have said, whatever the Government of Canada has said, I want to cooperate to make sure that if something wrong happened, we will go to the bottom of this issue. I think both of them should have been more willing to work together to solve this real problem when you have the life of someone that has been interrupted this way. But now our prime minister is saying, whatever the past, now we go ahead. That no other country will interfere in the other country. We want to work together and to succeed. WION: What can India, Canada, and Prime Minister Carney do to make sure that we can rebuild the relationship on a much warmer footing? Stéphane Dion: This visit will be key. I'm sure at the end of the visit, we'll have agreements. We will sign commitments. These commitments should not stay on paper. They should be true. So my advice to the two leaders, Modi and Carney, is to appoint men that would be responsible to the implementation of these agreements, and to say, a year after, we want to see the result, and you are accountable for it. Someone with a face, a name, someone responsible to make sure that all the ministries in Ottawa and in Delhi will make this argument coming true for The people, the people of India and Canada will benefit from it. Otherwise, it will be an agreement that we sign, and we have a beautiful ceremony. If you want the implementation of these agreements, appoint people responsible for it. WION: The Khalistan issue? How big it is a worry for the Canadian government because it's a big worry for India. Stéphane Dion: India should have no doubt that the Government of Canada is fully supporting the unity of India. As we know, the government of India is fully supporting the unity of Canada, there is no ambiguity. We support the United India as an ally and a friend. WION: Do you think the diversification under Prime Minister Carney is coming because of Donald Trump? Stéphane Dion: I have no doubt that the Prime Minister of Canada would have come in India, even if we had a different President of the United States at the White House of the United States. But the fact that we have President Trump, indeed, is a motivation for India and Canada to strengthen their relationships, because Canada will always need to have a positive relationship with the US, but we don't want to be too dependent of the US, and for that, we need to spread no relationship with Europe, with South America, with Africa, with Indo-Pacific and this great, the greatest, the biggest democracy of the world, India.

The judge observed that the CBI had attempted to construct a narrative of criminal conspiracy, but its theory was based on conjectures rather than concrete and admissible evidence.&nbsp;The court found that no prima facie case was made out against any of the 23 accused and accordingly ordered their discharge.&nbsp;Special Judge (PC Act) Jitender Singh also came down heavily on the CBI and said the court would recommend a departmental inquiry against agency officials for making public servant Kuldeep Singh the number one accused in the case.&nbsp;The case originated from the Excise Policy 2021–22 introduced by Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party government in November 2021 to modernise liquor sales by exiting the retail business and handing it entirely to private players. However, the policy was scrapped in July 2022 after allegations that tweaks were made to facilitate a 12% profit margin for wholesalers in exchange for Rs 100 crore in kickbacks. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party was accused of using the money to fund its election campaigns in Goa and Punjab.
