Delhi govt begins to home deliver public services, says it's a first in the world

The Delhi government has launched its doorstep deliveryof public services.The project aims to "home deliver"public services.

Forty of the services — including driving licences, caste, birth, and address certificates, water connections, and pensions — will be included in the project's first phase.

"The objective of Delhi Govt's political will is to ease the life of the common citizen," Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said. He added that the initiative was a first "across the globe" and that it "marks the beginning of a new era of pro-people governance".

He added that the number to call to avail of the service was 1076.

Sisodia had announced the move in November.

The project however had run into trouble with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal who had said then that the Delhi government did not have the manpower to provide the service.

Baijal had said just the digitisation of the service was enough.

Sisodia however had said then that most of the services had already been digitised, and yet there were "long queues in offices... most people still have to run around government offices with docs (documents)".
