TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s ‘boss’s pajamas’ remark on NCW chairperson sparks controversy

TMC MP Mahua Moitra

All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has landed in hot waters with her "boss's pajamas" remark against National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma.

It all started after Moitra commented on a post of Sharma's visit to the site of the Hathras stampede, where over 120 people lost their lives at a religious gathering.

The post was shared on social media forum X which also had a video where a man can be seen walking behind the NCW chairperson, holding an umbrella over her. The TMC MP took a jibe at Sharma and responded to a question about why she could not carry her own umbrella.

Moitra commented saying, "She's too busy holding up her boss's pajamas."

The remarks have garnered mixed responses as some find her comments right, and some are criticising her. NCW even sought the registration of an FIR against Moitra.

In a post, NCW wrote: "The National Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognisance of the derogatory remark made by Ms. Mahua Moitra, Member of Parliament, against Ms. Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, NCW. The crude remarks are outrageous and a violation of a woman's right to dignity."

"The Commission observed that this remark attracts Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. NCW strongly condemns these defamatory remarks and requests strict action against Ms. Moitra," it said.

"An FIR should be registered against Ms. Moitra and a detailed action report should be communicated to the Commission within 3 days," it further added.
