In the Pune Porsche car crash that shook the entire nation after a 17-year-old minor killed two techies on a bike while rashly driving his car at a speed of more than 200km/hour, the teen has now written a 300-word essay on road safety, which many had found a bizarre punishment for such a heinous crime.

The essay was written by the teenager in compliance with the Juvenile Justice Board's (JJB) bail conditions, said an official on Friday (July 5).

The essay was submitted by the teenager to the JJB on Wednesday (July 3), said the official.

Last month, the juvenile was released from an observation home after the Bombay High Court called the orders to remand him to the facility as illegal.

On May 19, hours after the two techies were killed in the fatal accident in the city's Kalyani Nagar area, the JJB had given the orders to keep him under his parents and grandfather's care and supervision.

The minor was also asked to write a 300-word essay on road safety.

What is the case about?

The police said that the minor was driving a Porsche car under the influence of alcohol when it hit a two-wheeler and killed the two software engineers. Ashwini Koshta died on the spot while Aneesh Awadhiya breathed his last in a hospital.

Initially, the juvenile was given bail 15 hours after driving the car at a speed of more than 200km per hour in a drunk state and killing two software engineers on a bike - Ashwini Kostha and Anish Awadhiya - in the early hours of Sunday (May 19).

He was granted bail on several conditionswhichincluded writing a300-word essay on road safety and working with the traffic police for 15 days, which led to a huge public outcry. It forcedthe state police to pursue the case again.

The board on May 22 gave orders for sending the minor to an observation home. The High Court gave the instruction for his release while stating that detaining him was illegal and added that the law regarding juveniles should be fully implemented.
