Special flight rescues 271 stranded UK nationals from Amritsar

A special rescue flight took off fromSri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar for United Kingdom (UK). The flight was a joint initiative of the UK and Indian government to help the UK nationals stranded in India.
Around 217 UK nationals boarded the flight which was scheduledto take off at 2:30 AM from Amritsar, amid the lockdown. The UK nationals also included Indian-origin UK nationals.
"I came here on January 24. After the lockdown was imposed we had to stay here. We would like to thank the Indian citizens for assistance. As compared to other countries, India is doing really well amid the COVID-19 crisis,"Shingara Singh, a UK national onboard the rescue flight was quoted by ANI.
This is the third rescue flight to fly off from the same airport in Amritsar in the past one month. Earlier, around 500 non-Indians have been rescued by the UK government from Amritsar'sSri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport.
