Shocker from India's Andhra Pradesh: Hidden camera found in women's washroom in college hostel

A shocking piece of news has emerged from the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. According to media reports on Friday (Aug 30), a hidden camera was discovered in the women's washroom of a hostel of the Gudlavalleru Engineering Collegein the Krishnan district.

Citing officials, a report by NDTV said that the camera had been secretly recording videos and capturing photographsof students, which were later leaked and sold to other students. The report said that a group of female students stumbled upon the camera in their washroom on Thursday evening.

Students launch protest: We want justice

The discovery (of the hidden camera) led to chaos as students organised a protest that began on Thursday at7 pm IST and went on till Friday morning. The chants of "We want justice" echoed throughout the campus.

The report said that more than 300 photos and videos from the hostel's washroom were leaked.

Accused student arrested

The police arrested a final-year engineering student from the boys' hostel in connection with the incident. The NDTV report also said that the man's laptop was seized and further investigation was underway.

Some of the institute's students had purchased the leaked photos and videos from the man.

CM Naidu orders inquiry into case

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu ordered an inquiry into the case, a report by News 18 said.

Meanwhile, in a post on X, Naidu's son andstate minister Lokesh Nara said, "I asked the authorities for details about the protest of female students at Gudlavalleru Engineering College of Krishna District. I have ordered an inquiry into the allegations of hidden cameras."

"Strict action will be taken against the culprits and those responsible if it is found that they have committed a mistake in the investigation," Nara added.
