Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress party on Saturday (Oct 5) during a visit to Washim district in the Indian state ofMaharashtra, over the recent Rs 5,600-croredrug seizure in Delhi. He claimed the party seeks to lead the nation's youth into drug addiction and use the proceeds to finance election campaigns.
While addressing the crowd in Maharashtra, PM Modi ofBharatiya Janata Party (BJP)said, "Drugs worth thousands of crores have been recovered in Delhi. The main accused in this drug racket is a Congress leader. Congress wants to push the youth towards drugs and use that money to contest and win elections."
Earlier in the week, Delhi Police made headlines for one of the city’s largest-ever drug busts, seizing over 560 kilograms of cocaine along with 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana. The total value of these drugs is estimated to be around Rs 5,600 crore.
The police operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals in Mahipalpur, South Delhi. Those apprehended include the key distributor, Tushar Goyal, along with his associates—Himanshu Kumar, Aurangzeb Siddiqui, and Bharat Kumar Jain.
According to reports, Goyal's Facebook profile includes a photo with a tiger and his bio claims he is the "chairman of Delhi Pradesh RTI Cell of DYPC, Indian Youth Congress."
However, the Indian Youth Congress, in a statement said that Goyal had been expelled from the organisation on 17 October 2022 for engaging in activities that were against the party’s interests.
Modi urged the public to stand against what he called the "dangerous agenda" of Congress. "They (Congress) think that if we all unite, then their agenda to divide the country will fail," he said.
The Prime Minister also expressed that the Congress party’s attitude has always been alien. "Just like the British rule, the Congress family also does not view Dalits, backward communities, and tribals as their equals," he said.
During the event, PM Modi inaugurated a number of significant projects, including those aimed at agriculture and animal husbandry, with a combined value of about Rs 23,300 crore. Among these initiatives, he launched 9,200 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), collectively worth Rs 1,300 crore, aimed at improving the lives of farmers.
