National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Shahid Yusuf, the son of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) chief Syed Salahuddin in a terror funding case.

According to the Final Report Yusuf had hatched a conspiracy to received funds from Pakistan through hawala channels to spread terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. 

The NIA filed the chargesheet on Friday against Shahid Yusuf, under section 120-B of the IPC and 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 38 and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, for willfully raising, receiving, collecting 'terror funds' and holding proceeds of terrorism' for furtherance of terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

His bail plea was dismissed by the trial court in New Delhi on March 7.

The NIA charge sheet included punishment for unlawful activities, punishment for raising funds for terrorist act, punishment for conspiracy, punishment for being member of terrorist gang or organisation, punishment for holding proceeds of terrorism, membership of a terrorist organisation and support given to a terrorist organization, under sections of UAPA.

The final report also accused him of hatching a criminal conspiracy, punishable under section 120-B of Indian Penal Code. 

The agency said the case was registered on the basis of information regarding funds from Pakistan being sent to Jammu and Kashmir through hawala channels via Delhi to spread terrorism. It has claimed that Yousuf had received a total of nearly Rs. 4.5 lakh through eight international wire transfers.The agency, which had in 2011 arrested several persons including one Ghulam Mohd Bhat with Rs. 21.2 lakh.

Shahid Yousuf was the seventh accused against whom a chargesheet has been filed in the case. The other accused people include Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Mohammad Sidiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo, Farooq Ahmad Dagga, Mohammad Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat.

Of these seven accused people, five, including Shahid Yusuf, are in custody and two namely Mohd Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat are absconding. Of the four accused facing trial in the case, three accused people namely Mohammad Sidiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo, and Farooq Ahmad Dagga have already pleaded guilty.
