Three members of a family died after a dispute over a mobile phone escalated into a tragic hilltop incident in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday. The incident took place in the Tisgaon area, under the jurisdiction of the Waluj MIDC police station, during the afternoon. The deceased have been identified as 48-year-old Murlidhar Chandgude, his wife Sangita Chandgude, and their 19-year-old son Kunal Chandgude.
The family was reportedly from the Zalta Phata area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. According to police, the incident followed an argument between Kunal and his parents at around 10am. The dispute was reportedly over Kunal's demand for a new mobile phone. Police said Kunal subsequently went to a hill in the area while upset. Concerned about their son, Murlidhar and Sangita followed him to the hilltop and tried to persuade him to return home.
Rescue operation turns tragic
Local residents informed the authorities after the situation unfolded on the hill. Police personnel and fire brigade officials reached the spot and began an attempt to bring Kunal to safety. Fire service personnel reportedly tried to place a safety net at the base of the hill, anticipating the possibility that Kunal could fall. However, according to officials, Kunal kept moving along the edge of the cliff. This made it difficult for rescuers to approach him and position the safety net safely. During the rescue operation, the situation suddenly escalated and the family members fell from the hilltop. All three, Kunal, Murlidhar and Sangita, died in the incident.
