Preliminary drug and drunk-driving tests of Andhra Pradesh MP's son accused in the August 16 road accident, in which a 26-year-old woman was fatally injured after being hit by a car allegedly driven by him, have returned negative, the Telangana Police said on Friday.

The blood and urine samples of the accused sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) had tested negative for drugs and alcohol, said Ritiraj, the DCP of Balanagar Zone in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate of Telangana.

Since the preliminary drug and drunk-driving tests of Rajya Sabha member Lingamaneni Ramesh's son, Lingamaneni Sanjush, 21 came out negative police could only invoke Section 106(1) of the BNS, which carries a maximum punishment of five years, based on the facts and circumstances available at the time, said the DCP.

The vehicle has been seized, and the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) inspection was completed today (Friday) and the report is expected within another three to four days, said DCP Ritiraj,as reported by ANI.

How did the accident happen?

The victim, identified as Bharathi Mukhi, an employee at the Lifestyle clothing store at Inorbit Mall, lost her life on August 16 after being struck by an Aston Martin car driven by Sanjush, while crossing the road close to her workplace in the Madhapur area.

Bharathi and her 26-year-old colleague, Pooja Ashok Alone, had gone towards the nearby ITC Kohenur area to get lunch. While returning, as Bharathi tried to cross the road in front of the mall, she was reportedly struck by the Aston Martin (TG-09-G-0666).

Bharathi suffered severe head injuries in the impact and bled heavily. According to police, she was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills in the same vehicle that struck her, but was declared dead upon arrival. Her friend Pooja subsequently alerted store manager Ashwin Kumar, who then contacted the police.
