
Cabinet minister of Goa government, Vijay Sardesai stirred a controversy on Saturdayby calling majority domestic tourist "scum of the earth."
Media reports quoted Sardesai as saying, ''Today we have almost six times the population of Goa coming as tourists, those tourists are not top-end tourists, they are also the scum of the earth. Are they responsible? They are not.”
Continuing his rant against Indians tourists, he further said that north Indians who visit Goa wantto "create Haryana in Goa".
"We are dependent on north Indians and this is what they do. They are not bothered about Goa. They will like to recreate Haryana in Goa", he said.
The President of Goa Forward Party, an ally of BJP, was speaking at the Goa BizFest in Bambolim. He asked the government to attract foreign and upper-class Indian tourists.
He also added that it is difficult for the state to control ''irresponsible tourists''.
Peopleon social media were also quick to call out the Sardesai for his statement.
