India and China share a 3,500-km border, and large parts of territory are claimed by both sides.

The Indian media reports incursions by the PLA at fairly regular intervals.

In June 2017, the Indian and Chinese armies faced off from each other for over 60 days in Doklam in Bhutan.

India side said the standoff began after Bhutan discovered the Chinese building a road in the area. The Bhutanese asked the Chinese to stop when they did not, Bhutan asked India to intervene.

The Doklam plateau lies in Bhutan near the Bhutan-India-China trijunction, but the area is claimed by China.
