
A doctor was stabbed seven times at a government hospital in the Indian city ofChennai on Wednesday (Nov 13) by a man who alleged that his mother, who was a cancer patient, was prescribed the wrong medications.
The oncologist was stabbed multiple times in Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital, including in his chest. He was also a heart patient and suffered injuries to his upper chest, head, scalp, neck, and ear.
Following the incident, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Currently, he is in a stable condition, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian said.
A senior doctor said that his colleague had a pacemaker and was cut on his forehead and back, and was also hit on his stomach.
The 25-year-old man has been arrested now, following the incident.
Doctors at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital arenow protesting against the attack, according to thenews agency ANI.Non-emergency treatments havebeen suspended.
The attack took place in the outpatient department (OPD) of the hospital in the city's Guindy neighbourhood after the man suspected the doctor had prescribed the wrong medicines to his mother.
According to some reports, he tried to escape after stabbing the doctor but was caught and handed over to the police.

"Doctors feel insecure. The attack was a security lapse and indicates a lack of fear of the law... security should tightened. CCTCs have been set up but I don't think they function," Dr Anto Uresh, a member of the Tamil Nadu government Doctors' Association, told NDTV.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has ordered an inquiry into the stabbing incident and promised medical aid. He also gave assurances that such an attack would not happen again.
"Service of doctors is laudable... and it is our responsibility to ensure their safety," he stated in a social media post.
"The selfless work of our government doctors in providing treatment to patients regardless of the time is immeasurable. The government will take measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future," MK Stalin added.
