Chennai: 57-year-old advocate sexually assaults a minor sleeping in train

A 57-year-old advocate was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Express on Sunday.

According to a report by news agency ANI, the accused advocate has been identified as KP Prem Ananth and he was a BJP candidate in 2006 assembly election from RK Nagar constituency.

Ananth allegedly assaulted the minor while she was asleep.

After she woke up started shouting following which her family nabbed him and informed the travelling ticket examiner. A police complaint has been registered.

A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2012 has been charged and is now in Coimbatore prison.

The Chennai-based lawyer had boarded the train from Coimbatore on April 21 night, police said.

Recently a rape case by another BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Unnao triggered a massive outrage in the country.

The case is now being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The case received national attention after the victim and her family attempted to immolate herself in front of the residence of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
