Reacting to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's announcement of breaking the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming 2019 general elections,  BJP minister Ashish Shelar said that the ultimate damage will rest on the Shiv Sena.

"We are ready to contest 2019 alone, just want to make it clear to Shiv Sena that it will be ultimately damaging for you," Shelar said

Shiv Sena today said that it will not align with BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

The party passed the resolution at its national executive meet in Mumbai.

The announcement was made by party leader Sanjay Raut who moved the resolution, stating that the BJP had been demoralising the party for the last three years.

The Sena has so far been a difficult BJP ally, taking the ruling BJP to task both in Maharashtra and at the Centre.
