<p>The DC Universe's newest film, <i>Supergirl</i>, was released in cinemas in India today. It is the second theatrical film in the reboot of the DC World under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The superhero film stars Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet and David Krumholtz, among others. Helmed by Craig Gillespie, it is an emotionally dark story that neither triumphs nor destructs. But does this female-led film do justice to the reboot version of DC Studios that James Gunn envisioned? Let us delve in.</p><h2>Plot of Supergirl</h2><p>The story features Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock, who is dealing with a personal crisis, getting drunk every day on planets that have a red sun. With only her dog Krypto for company, Kara spends her days lost in grief and partying until she crosses paths with Ruthye Maryne Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, a determined young girl seeking revenge for the murder of her parents.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/supergirl-early-reviews-out-critics-call-milly-alcock-s-movie-horrendous-1782403115429"><strong>Supergirl early reviews out! Kara Zor-El is a unique version of Supergirl, a survivor struck by grief, carrying the memory of an entire civilisation in a way that Clark Kent, aka Superman, never had to. Her cousin arrived on Earth as a baby and built a life from the beginning. Kara, on the other hand, will forever have to live with the memory of watching Krypton die, her parents gone, and nothing she could do to stop it.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hollywood/supergirl-milly-alcock-s-kara-is-a-total-mess-says-james-gunn-nothing-like-superman-1752398022801"><strong>Supergirl: Milly Alcock’s Kara is a 'Total mess,' says James Gunn, nothing like Superman</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Milly Alcock communicates that grief naturally and with complete conviction it feels real, which is a testament to her considerable talent. On the other hand, it was genuinely a delight watching David Corenswet make his presence felt, and Jason Momoa was an absolute entertainer exactly as hoped.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The chemistry between Jason Momoa and Milly Alcock is fun and easy to watch. Beyond the action sequences, Supergirl also taps into an emotional core through Kara's story. The survival instinct and the quieter and more vulnerable moments are a blend of both and are one of this film's genuine strengths.</p><h2>What doesn't work?</h2><p>The most evident problem in <i>Supergirl</i> is its antagonist, Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, whose potential is never fully utilised. The central villain of the film is, ultimately, a failure. Visually striking, certainly, but when it comes to his character, he is almost forgotten the moment he leaves the frame.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Lobo's entry into the film also raises several questions. Was the whole film incapable of being led entirely by women, or was this merely a creative decision to introduce him ahead of a future standalone film?</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hollywood/-i-m-very-very-excited-the-dcu-s-supergirl-milly-alcock-on-her-upcoming-debut-1747733995645"><strong>'I'm very, very excited': The DCU's Supergirl Milly Alcock on her upcoming debut</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Either way, there are scenes involving Lobo that feel entirely unnecessary. Ruthye was more than capable of saving herself from prison, and yet she ends up helping Lobo escape instead. His presence in the narrative feels less like a purposeful creative decision and more like a lack of faith in the audience. The irony is that Milly Alcock and Eve Ridley never needed any backup. They were more than enough. Additionally, the visual design of the various planets Kara travels to feels flat and repetitive, a missed opportunity given the cosmic scope of the story.</p><h2>Final verdict</h2><p><i>Supergirl</i> is a film of genuine performances trapped inside a half-baked plot. Milly Alcock makes Kara Zor-El entirely her own, and that alone is worth something. Jason Momoa shines as Lobo, even if his presence raises more questions than it answers. The antagonist, however, remains invisible in every way that matters. The film does not quite measure up to the standard set by the previously released <i>Superman </i>movie. Overall, <i>Supergirl</i> is a one-time watch, best enjoyed from the comfort of your home rather than the cinema halls.</p>

Also Read: Supergirl New York premiere: Milly Alcock, David Corenswet and other celebs gather for celebration ahead of global release What follows is an interplanetary hunt for Krem, which also introduces cosmic bounty hunter Lobo, played by Jason Momoa, who is on the very same mission as Kara and Ruthye. What works? The female lead Milly Alcock, who plays Kara, is unlike any previous female superhero seen on screen. Kara Zor-El is a unique version of Supergirl, a survivor struck by grief, carrying the memory of an entire civilisation in a way that Clark Kent, aka Superman, never had to. Her cousin arrived on Earth as a baby and built a life from the beginning. Kara, on the other hand, will forever have to live with the memory of watching Krypton die, her parents gone, and nothing she could do to stop it. Also Read: Supergirl: Milly Alcock’s Kara is a 'Total mess,' says James Gunn, nothing like Superman Milly Alcock communicates that grief naturally and with complete conviction it feels real, which is a testament to her considerable talent. On the other hand, it was genuinely a delight watching David Corenswet make his presence felt, and Jason Momoa was an absolute entertainer exactly as hoped. The chemistry between Jason Momoa and Milly Alcock is fun and easy to watch. Beyond the action sequences, Supergirl also taps into an emotional core through Kara's story. The survival instinct and the quieter and more vulnerable moments are a blend of both and are one of this film's genuine strengths. What doesn't work? The most evident problem in Supergirl is its antagonist, Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, whose potential is never fully utilised. The central villain of the film is, ultimately, a failure. Visually striking, certainly, but when it comes to his character, he is almost forgotten the moment he leaves the frame. Lobo's entry into the film also raises several questions. Was the whole film incapable of being led entirely by women, or was this merely a creative decision to introduce him ahead of a future standalone film? Also Read: 'I'm very, very excited': The DCU's Supergirl Milly Alcock on her upcoming debut Either way, there are scenes involving Lobo that feel entirely unnecessary. Additionally, the visual design of the various planets Kara travels to feels flat and repetitive, a missed opportunity given the cosmic scope of the story. Final verdict Supergirl is a film of genuine performances trapped inside a half-baked plot. Milly Alcock makes Kara Zor-El entirely her own, and that alone is worth something. Jason Momoa shines as Lobo, even if his presence raises more questions than it answers. The antagonist, however, remains invisible in every way that matters. The film does not quite measure up to the standard set by the previously released Superman movie. Overall, Supergirl is a one-time watch, best enjoyed from the comfort of your home rather than the cinema halls.

<p><strong>Welcome To The Jungle review: </strong>When the trailer of <i>Welcome To The Jungle </i>was unveiled, I had only one question in mind: could the film manage to give enough screen space to all the iconic actors it had assembled? Directed by Ahmed Khan, the action-comedy is the third instalment in the <i>Welcome </i>franchise, which has remained a fan favourite since the first film was released in 2007.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>While that question lingers throughout its runtime, one thing becomes clear almost immediately: the film has no intention of playing it safe. Penned by the late Neeraj Vora, <i>Welcome To The Jungle</i> embraces complete madness, packing its narrative with slapstick humour, nostalgia, meta references and a never-ending parade of familiar faces rather than chasing logic or realism.</p><h2>Welcome To The Jungle plot</h2><p>The story begins with a corrupt businessman who plans to convert his black money into legitimate losses by producing a ₹2,000 crore film that is guaranteed to flop. To execute the plan, his trusted aide Dubey (Johny Lever) suggests choosing the worst possible filmmaking team, helmed by flop filmmakers Dev (Paresh Rawal) and Das (Rajpal Yadav). The cast and crew of the fake film consists of Nainsukh (Shreyas Talpade), partially blind cinematographer, actor Rajiv (Akshay Kumar), a once-successful Bollywood star who now acts in Bhojpuri films, his former girlfriend Nadia (Disha Patani), and gangsters Romeo (Arshad Warsi) and Yeda Anna (Suniel Shetty), who are a part of the cast because Dev and Das failed to repay the money they owe them.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/akshay-kumar-has-this-request-for-critics-ahead-of-welcome-to-the-jungle-release-1782400587584"><strong>Akshay Kumar has THIS request for critics ahead of Welcome to the Jungle release</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>To further inflate the budget, several other actors, including Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Daler Mehndi, have been signed for the doomed production.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Filming begins and just when everything appears to be going according to plan, the team lands in a remote village due to a sudden twist. <p>&nbsp;</p><p>Then enter the villagers, including Raveena Tandon, Farida Jalal and Kiran Kumar, who mistake the arriving film crew for genuine Indian Army personnel, as everyone is already dressed in military uniforms. The terrorists make the same assumption, and a series of misunderstandings, and chaos begins.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>From this point onwards, the film goes far away from reality, and the cast finds itself using heavy artillery, crossing borders, fighting terrorists, having emotional reunions and somehow landing near the India-Pakistan border. The story rarely takes time to explain how any of this is happening, and perhaps that's exactly the point.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/welcome-to-the-jungle-gets-ua-16-certificate-after-18-cuts-hip-close-up-shot-tum-army-se-ho-and-paani-of-kashmir-dialogues-removed-1782202578970"><strong>Welcome to the Jungle gets UA 16+ certificate after 18 cuts</strong></a></p><h2>What works in the film</h2><p>I genuinely must appreciate the honesty of the film as it refuses to apologise for its absurdity. It knows it is loud, silly and completely over-the-top, and never attempts to cover those things with sophistication.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The comedy in<i> Welcome To The Jungle</i> is because of the chaos rather than clever plotting. Almost every major character has an amusing personality quirk. Shreyas Talpade's cinematographer is partially blind, Johny Lever's Dubey struggles with his speech, Suniel Shetty's gangster constantly forgets words, Farida Jalal communicates through incomprehensible murmurs, and so on. These recurring traits create several genuinely funny moments.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The nostalgia factor also works at several moments in the film. References to <i>Welcome, Hera Pheri, Mahabharat</i> and several classic Bollywood films frequently pop up. Though not every callback is equally funny, Bollywood fans will surely appreciate many of the meta jokes and self-aware humour.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Several comic exchanges between Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Johny Lever bring laughs.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Another point that needs to be highlighted is that despite featuring a large ensemble cast, the film shockingly doesn't appear cluttered most of the time.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>While the situations remain ridiculous, Akshay Kumar handles both comedy and action scenes with ease. The outdoor locations, production design, and overall visual appeal is good.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>What makes the film entertaining is that many jokes genuinely land despite the paper-thin story. If the audience stops thinking about the logic and just enjoys the madness, the cinema hall will be packed with laughter.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<h2>What doesn't work</h2><p>While the scale and jokes entertain, the storytelling is where the film stumbles, and as expected, due to the enormous cast, many actors contribute very little except their presence.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Several familiar faces appear in scene after scene without giving meaningful dialogue or character development. It often feels as though they were included simply because the film wanted as many celebrities as possible.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/welcome-to-the-jungle-trailer-akshay-kumar-s-wildest-franchise-chapter-yet-arrives-with-bollywood-s-biggest-ensemble-1781166280924"><strong>Welcome to the Jungle trailer: Akshay Kumar's wildest franchise chapter yet arrives with Bollywood's biggest ensembl</strong></a><strong>e</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>And yes, it is an Akshay Kumar film and the actor naturally dominates the narrative, leaving little room for everyone else. Only Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Jackie Shroff receive decent material, but performers like Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Tusshar Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani and several others are mostly underutilised.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The screenplay struggles with consistency, as the first half takes time to establish its absurd premise, while the second half stretches far longer than needed. There are a lot of songs that interrupt the momentum, making the film longer.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>As I said earlier, there's literally no logic in the whole film. Characters suddenly turn from struggling actors into trained fighters capable of taking on terrorists.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The most bizarre part was when the narrative suddenly jumped from a jungle village to border conflict and patriotic drama. The emotional portions also fail to create any impact.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Personally, I felt Akshay Kumar's double role was unnecessary as the film already contains more than enough characters.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Additionally, not all references to older films work, as a few seem inserted only for nostalgia with no connection to the story.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/welcome-to-the-jungle-teaser-out-akshay-kumar-returns-with-full-on-chaos-check-release-date-1778831549716"><strong>Welcome To The Jungle teaser out: Akshay Kumar returns with full-on chaos, check release date</strong></a></p><h2>Welcome To The Jungle cast performances</h2><p>Akshay Kumar is in the spotlight till the credits roll. There's no doubt that Akshay handles comic timing, physical comedy, and action sequences brilliantly- he is one of the best comic actors in Bollywood.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Suniel Shetty and Arshad Warsi's chemistry, banter and comic timing are also praiseworthy. Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav also mark their presence despite the crowded ensemble.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Johny Lever delivers exactly what audiences expect from him, while Shreyas Talpade also adds humour wherever possible.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Jackie Shroff does justice to the role of terrorist leader Zatara, though the character itself borders on caricature. Farida Jalal turns out to be one of the film's pleasant surprises, while Raveena Tandon lends sincerity despite being saddled with repetitive character traits.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Lara Dutta, Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma and several others remain largely underused despite their considerable screen presence.</p><h2>Verdict</h2><p><i>Welcome To The Jungle </i>is not for people who are looking for logic, realism, a screenplay and even a storyline. Several characters exist only for star value. But Ahmed Khan makes sure to compensate for these things with a load of slapstick comedy, action, nostalgia, and meta humour. The mass entertainer has jokes in almost every scene, and surprisingly, most of them bring laughs.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It is a complete brain-rot comedy that never asks its audience to think too hard. If you are planning to watch the film, go for nostalgia, humour, madness, and the familiar faces, and you will enjoy the absurdity.</p>

Welcome To The Jungle, starring an ensemble cast led by Akshay Kumar, is this week's big Bollywood release. Directed by Ahmed Khan, the mass-entertainer is a complete brain-rot comedy that brings laughs if you don't think about logic or storytelling.

Welcome To The Jungle review: When the trailer of Welcome To The Jungle was unveiled, I had only one question in mind: could the film manage to give enough screen space to all the iconic actors it had assembled? Directed by Ahmed Khan, the action-comedy is the third instalment in the Welcome franchise, which has remained a fan favourite since the first film was released in 2007. While that question lingers throughout its runtime, one thing becomes clear almost immediately: the film has no intention of playing it safe. Penned by the late Neeraj Vora, Welcome To The Jungle embraces complete madness, packing its narrative with slapstick humour, nostalgia, meta references and a never-ending parade of familiar faces rather than chasing logic or realism. Welcome To The Jungle plot The story begins with a corrupt businessman who plans to convert his black money into legitimate losses by producing a ₹2,000 crore film that is guaranteed to flop. To execute the plan, his trusted aide Dubey (Johny Lever) suggests choosing the worst possible filmmaking team, helmed by flop filmmakers Dev (Paresh Rawal) and Das (Rajpal Yadav). The cast and crew of the fake film consists of Nainsukh (Shreyas Talpade), partially blind cinematographer, actor Rajiv (Akshay Kumar), a once-successful Bollywood star who now acts in Bhojpuri films, his former girlfriend Nadia (Disha Patani), and gangsters Romeo (Arshad Warsi) and Yeda Anna (Suniel Shetty), who are a part of the cast because Dev and Das failed to repay the money they owe them. Also Read: Akshay Kumar has THIS request for critics ahead of Welcome to the Jungle release To further inflate the budget, several other actors, including Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Daler Mehndi, have been signed for the doomed production. Filming begins and just when everything appears to be going according to plan, the team lands in a remote village due to a sudden twist. Unknown to them, the region is a target of terrorists led by Zatara (Jackie Shroff), assisted by Abdullah (Aftab Shivdasani) and Ghoni (Vindu Dara Singh).

As she directed and starred in the sexy romantic comedy "The Invite," Olivia Wilde took a deep dive into discussions about relationships and how they survive -- conversations her co-stars joined with open arms. "There was an amazing kind of collective catharsis," Wilde told AFP at the Hollywood premiere of her new film, in which she shares the screen with Seth Rogen, Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz. "I think we all walked away feeling like we had gained a little bit of knowledge, a little perspective from each other, because everyone had been so vulnerable." "The Invite," which had its world premiere at the Sundance festival earlier this year and will be released in select US cities on Friday, tells the story of two couples at different moments in their relationships. When the frustrated and tired Joe and Angela (Rogen and Wilde) host the charismatic Hawk and Pina (Norton and Cruz) for a dinner party, the night takes some unexpected turns. The film is both funny and dark, and allows viewers to ponder their own relationship issues. "It was a really great and honest examination of how relationships evolve as the people in them evolve," Rogen told AFP. The 44-year-old actor -- coming off a banner year of awards for his Hollywood satire "The Studio" -- said relationships are always box office gold because "it's high stakes, very personal, very relatable." - 'Really relatable' - The cast said the film works because of its screenplay, written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (who also wrote 2012's "Celeste & Jesse Forever"). The movie was inspired by the work of Spanish director Cesc Gay, who wrote the play "The Neighbors from Upstairs," which was made into the Spanish-language film "Sentimental" in 2020. Jones, also known for acting in "Parks and Recreation," said the film clicks "even though we're talking about very dysfunctional people and dysfunctional relationships" -- or maybe even because of that fact. "We tried to layer things into those relationships that didn't feel only dramatic, but also really relatable to anybody who's been in a long-term relationship, and I think people see themselves in it," she said.

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg told Judge Curtis Farber in Manhattan criminal court that they wouldn’t proceed after having a word with Mann, who “wants to move on with her life.” Recommend 20-Year Sentence This trial has ended, but this doesn't mean that he is free. Weinstein has already been convicted of a criminal sexual act against Haley. In a statement on Thursday, Bragg has offered a sentence recommendation of 20 years in prison. "We also shared our recommendation to the court that Mr. Weinstein be sentenced to 20 years in prison, which would account for the significant harms his actions have caused Ms. Haley," Bragg said. What's the history of this trial? Weinstein was convicted of raping Mann and assaulting Miriam Haley in a separate 2006 incident at his first trial in New York in 2020. In 2020, Weinstein was found guilty in both cases and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. But later, the New York Court of Appeals overturned that verdict in 2024. After that, prosecutors tried the case again in 2025. A jury could not agree on the rape charge involving Mann. But he was again convicted of assaulting Haley. Earlier this year, the third trial ended in a mistrial after the jury again could not decide on the rape charge. What has Weinstein's spokesperson said? Weinstein's spokesman, Judah Engelmayer, told AFP the prosecution was "dropped. They just did (it)," confirming US media reports. "He's relieved. This is what should have happened had the prosecution showed the full extent of emails, texts and private messages (between Weinstein and Mann) to the grand jury initially," he added.

<p>US prosecutors have dropped the third-degree rape charge against Weinstein, meaning he will not face a fourth trial in New York. The decision came after actor and hairstylist Jessica Mann, who accused Weinstein of raping her in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013, declined to testify.</p>

<p>''In the first film, my only focus was to watch her work up close. When you watch any actor's work from nearby, but when you watch her work up close, you notice at what point and on what note she leaves the scene. There are so many things that she's not greedy for. Because she focuses on the overall arc of the character, leaving out many small things, because she has to focus on the overall arc of the character. So this intelligence is outstanding. As I have always said, when you work with great actors, some things also rub off on you. It’s always like that. So I always see her that way, and she’s a mind-blowing actress.''</p>

Yes, she’s outspoken and straightforward. But as a co-actor, when it comes to work, she’s very focused and on it, not scattered here and there. But when any department is working, she lets them work.''</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>''What's best is that she really appreciates everyone's work. For me, there was a shot of mine where she went behind the monitor to watch that scene, and then she praised it, saying I had done it nicely. Those little things, that appreciation, really matter. And when somebody you admire does that, I think that’s the blessing,'' she said. &nbsp;</p><h3>Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata review</h3><p>WION Pragati Awasthi hailed the movie saying Kangana Ranaut throws light on untold side of 26/11 beyond Taj and Leopold. ''Led by Kangana, the movie is not solely or entirely about her. She’s there as the anchor, but the long sequences of the movie also focus on other actors. She has always been one of the finest actors and so has given the commendable performance, but unlike her last few films where the cameras were focused on her, this time the focus has shifted to other nurses, characters, and others,'' <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/bharat-bhagya-vidhata-review-kangana-ranaut-shines-a-light-on-a-26-11-story-beyond-taj-and-leopold-1781247272099">she writes.</a></p>
