As per the reports, a man, who was a wanted criminal, allegedly involved in the firing at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai, has been arrested by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Mumbai Police Crime Branch.
An arrest has been made in connection with the firing incident that took place outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Mumbai residence on Feb 1.
Multiple gunshots were fired outside Shetty's building in the Jury area. The renowned filmmaker was at his home during the incident.
Two months after the shocking incident, a man, who was a wanted criminal, allegedly involved in the firing at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai, has been arrested by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Mumbai Police Crime Branch, as per the reports.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Pradeep Kumar alias Gaath. He was taken into custody from the Chhadami Mattha area on the Agra-Etah road, Uttar Pradesh, at 3:56 PM on Thursday (April 16).
“The arrest was the result of technical analysis and intelligence sharing between the Mumbai crime branch and the Uttar Pradesh STF,” the statement said, as per PTI.
The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
The shooting was allegedly ordered by notorious criminal Shubham Lonkar. In the investigation, it was revealed that the accused was motivated by the Lonkar's gang on Facebook and Instagram. The accused is a resident of Ashok Nagar in Agra.
This is the latest addition to the list of multiple arrests made in the high-profile firing case. In the two months, eight accused, including Pradeep Sharma alias Golu, who was arrested in March from Agra. He has been handed over to the Mumbai Police team at the Bah police station. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch will handle the other legal proceedings.
In the early hours of Feb 1, around 12:40 am, five rounds were fired outside the director's 10-storey Shetty Tower, located at Hasya Kalakar Mahmood Chowk. No injuries were reported, but bullets hit the balcony glass and wall on the first floor. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras.
‘’One bullet struck the safety glass of a balcony, two hit the wall on the first floor, and the remaining two hit the safety wall near the building entrance,” police said.
