Miranda Derrick faces death threats after controversial Netflix docuseries' release

Social media influencer Miranda Derrick and her husband, James "BDash" Derrick, have voiced concerns for their safety following the recent release of the Netflix docuseries Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult.
In a candid Instagram video posted on Monday (June 10), Miranda addressed the negative attention that she and James have allegedly received since the docuseries' premiere on May 29. The series insinuates that the couple is involved in an alleged cult linked to Robert Shinn’s 7M organization.
"Hey guys, I know I don’t normally make this kind of content, but I just wanted to be transparent and a little vulnerable with you," Miranda began in her video. "But before this documentary, my husband and I — we felt safe. Now that this documentary is out, we feel like our lives have been put in danger."
The docuseries features Miranda's sister, Melanie Wilking, recounting how Miranda and James met. Melanie explained that James, a well-known Krump dancer who appeared on NBC's World of Dance, began collaborating with her and Miranda in April 2019. The trio's dynamic shifted when James removed Melanie from their group chat, allowing only him and Miranda to communicate, leading to their eventual romantic involvement. Through James, Miranda became acquainted with the 7M organization, now at the centre of controversy.

In 2022, the Wilking family accused Shinn of running a cult via an Instagram Live video. Miranda's latest statements highlight the severe backlash they have faced since the documentary's release. "We have both been followed in our cars. We have received hate mail, death threats. People have been sending us messages to commit suicide. We’ve been stalked," Miranda claimed on Monday.

Miranda also expressed confusion and disappointment regarding her family's intentions with the documentary. "I honestly — I don’t understand how my parents and my sister thought that this documentary would help me or would help our relationship in any way. I just don’t understand that," she said.
She revealed that efforts to reconcile with her family had been ongoing for the past couple of years, but the documentary's release has disrupted their progress. "Honestly, I think that my parents, my sister have focused so much on this documentary, that they’ve forgotten about working on any relationship with me and that hurts. That hurts me to say," she added.
The turmoil has impacted her ability to create content, and Miranda apologized to her followers for the slowdown on her social media accounts. She concluded her video by thanking her fans for their support and promised to return to dancing soon.
