Kim Kardashian has always created a stir with her Met Gala outfits. Over the years, the reality TV star has always managed to be a topic of discussion due to her outfit choices at the gala. This year was no different as Kim turned heads in a Maison Margiela corset that dramatically cinched her waist.

The custom design was so tight and constricting that she needed assistance to make her way up the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps. Many online wondered how the SKIMS founder was breathing through the outfit.

In Kim's words, it was an 'art form'.

A BTS video has been shared online that shows her fitting for the outfit. When someone behind the camera enquires if she can breathe, Kim can be heard saying, "It’s an art form, but I got it,” as the team laces her up. Kim could be seen breathing through her mouth while being sucked into the silver metallic corset. The outfit also comprised a silver brocade skirt.

Despite the difficult breathwork it required, Kardashian says she loved the corset because it made her boobs and waist look “so good.”

“I’ll feel so snatched, I won’t even be able to communicate to you how snatched I feel.”

Another hidden element was the custom Maison Margiela thong Kardashian wore underneath her see-through skirt.

In the video, she explained to Vogue that since the lace-like overlay could lead to an exposing photo angle, designer John Galliano wanted to make sure she was “fully covered in the appropriate places” with matching underwear.

Kim completed her look with gravity-defying shoes made with a thick clear sole, but no heels to avoid her skirt getting caught.

"To wear these, you’re on your tiptoes and you’re balancing the whole time flexing your calf muscles,” she explains, comparing the movement to that of a ballerina. “I think we really need the height on this look, so we gotta do what we gotta do,” she adds.

Met Gala 2024: Best and worst looks from biggest fashion event of the year

Kardashian's look told a specific fairy tale that aligned with the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme.

“Imagine having the best time of your entire life with your most magical person and you’re in a garden, you’ve overslept, you wake up after literally the best night of your life,” Kardashian told Vogue.

She explained the cardigan was meant to evoke the idea of running out the door and grabbing her “boyfriend’s sweater," which was intentional.

“It's like the real-life me when I go to an event and I have to make it home by 6 am to get to carpool. Real life happens.”

Kim meant it literary. On May 6, she left the Met Gala and hopped right onto her private jet to catch a flight to Hamburg, Germany, where she attended the 2024 OMR Festival as a guest speaker the following day.
