Fans are not at all happy with this development and took to social media to express their disappointment. "It took them seven years to come up with an excuse to not make this movie that sounded somewhat believable. Don't fall for it. Yuri on Ice was a massive original IP with a level of international fame and celebrity interest that's rarely seen in anime. It was profitable," a fan wrote on X.

Another added, "I don't think ppl understand just how crazy yuri on ice was at the time, because it didn't really advertise itself as a BL and at first glance it looked like it could be your average queerbait sports anime. then the kiss happened and the world went wild lol."

"People saying they're disappointed but not surprised by the cancelation but I'm genuinely surprised by their audacity to fucking lie that yuri on ice did not make them enough profit when in reality they've just used up all the money for their other big ass shounen projects like??" a third wrote.
