Story highlights

Despite being at the peak of her career as an actress with back-to-back hits, Alia Bhatt has been suffering for the 'past five to six months'.

All is not well in the world of Alia Bhatt even though it might look like it for us from afar.

In a recent interview with Filmfare, Alia who is on cloud nine with back-to-back successful films revealed that she is facing with “bouts of anxiety”.

She clarified that it’s not depression and said, “I haven’t been depressed but I’ve had bouts of anxiety. It comes and goes. It’s been happening quite a bit since the past five to six months. It’s not like an anxiety attack but I just feel low.”

She added that she knows this even more because of her sister Shaheen Bhatt who has faced this. Alia added, “She’s fought depression. I’ve read her book.”

Opening up on it, Alia also spoke about how she is dealing with this and said, “No matter how bad it is, I just let myself feel it. Sometimes, I feel like crying for no reason. Then it passes. Initially, I’d be a little confused. I’d constantly give reasons that it’s because of work or maybe I’m tired or haven’t been able to meet anyone... The kind of personality I have, I become a little on the edge."

She continued, "I spoke to friends about it. I spoke to Ayan (Mukerji, director) about it, I spoke to my sister’s friend Rohan (Joshi). Everyone told me that you’ve got to realise that it will go away. What’s important is to accept it and not say that you’re fine. If you’re not feeling fine, then you should just say you’re not feeling fine.”

Alia is currently busy with promotions for ‘Kalank’ with Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. She also has ‘Takht’, 'Brahmastra' and 'Sadak 2' and was recently seen in ‘Gully Boy’ with Ranveer Singh and ‘Raazi’ with Vicky Kaushal. Both ‘Gully Boy’ and ‘Raazi’ were super hits for her.
