Armie Hammer says he is in 'happy place' since scandal broke out: 'Therapy was a life changer'

Armie Hammer has opened up about his life since 2021 when he was accused of sexual and physical abuse. The allegations derailed Hammer's thriving career in Hollywood. But the actor has admitted that he has 'never been happier'.

“I’ve never been happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life,” said Hammer, 37, in a July 14 interview on Bill Maher’s Club Random. “The good place only comes from walking through hell,” he added, referencing the period he says “everyone just [deciding] that they hate” him.

Hammer also revealed he was sober after entering rehab for addictions to drugs, alcohol and sex.

“Therapy for me has been a life changer,” he explained. “I needed an adjustment… Here’s what I think would have happened had none of this gone on — the cataclysmic tectonic shift in my life wouldn’t have happened. My life would have kept going exactly as it was, and I know that would ultimately only lead in one place and that’s death."

Two of Hammer’s exes, Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, alleged in the 2022 documentary House of Hammer that the actor sent them sexually charged messages which were cannibalistic in nature.

In April of last year, following another woman’s rape accusation, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office confirmed that Hammer — who has denied any allegations of wrongdoing — was being investigated over claims of sexual assault.

He was never charged due to inadequate evidence in the case.

'I cheated on my wife'

During the interview, Hammer was asked to comment on the allegations and his behaviour before his divorce from Elizabeth Chambers, with whom he hastwo children.

“I cheated on my wife. I used people to make me feel better. I was callous and inconsiderate with people and their emotions and well-being,” the Social Network star said.

“There are things in my behaviour that I have to take accountability for, right? Because that is pivotal for me, learning and growing from it."

Before the accusations, Hammer said his life "was in motion. I was making a lot of money, I was drinking a lot, I was doing a lot of drugs, I was partying hard. I was being really fast and loose about what I put in text messages. And I was also engaging in risky behaviour that, if you think about it, was stupid…It was self-destruction."

The actor also admitted that his finances were complicated. "I have come to the place where I understand that there are no free lunches," Hammer admitted. The actor is the great-grandson of oil magnate Armand Hammer.

He continued, “Someone might look at me and go, ‘Yeah, but financially you are in a very different position than you’ve ever been in your entire life.’ And I look at that and I go, ‘Yeah, and you know what, it’s taught me that I don’t need that.’”

Hammer’s last major screen credit was 2022’s Death on the Nile months after allegations around his behaviour first surfaced online.
