The DC Universe is finally coming to shape as DC boss James Gunn announced that his ambitious Superman film is almost ready and will complete post-production anytime. The film is set for release in July this year with a new face as the Krypto hero taking on the role of the saviour of this world.
As fans would agree, the new Superman film will herald a new future for the DC Universe and will start a fresh new chapter for the same. James Gunn's Superman movie has long been positioned as the true beginning of the DC Universe, despite the release of Creature Commandos in December 2024.
Superman is expected to kickstart a wave of movies and TV shows in the DCU's Chapter One, titled Gods and Monsters.
The upcoming slate of DC movies includes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface, and Dynamic Duo.
At the February 2025 meetup at the Warner Bros. meet, James Gunn alongside his co-DCU chief Peter Safran confirmed that fans are in for a surprise because things were moving fast at the studio.
Key Takeaways From The Meetup:
Superman film
DCU’s Superman film is right on schedule and will release in July 2025. A trailer for the film released in December 2024. James revealed that the film was deep into post-production and there were just some last-minute tweaks and cuts left to perfect the movie.
Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow
The 2026 film is well into production. The film’s script is by Ana Nogueira. James Gunn gushed at the Warner Bros. meetup about the film’s director Craig Gillespie and star Milly Alcock, insisting that the latter had been on his radar since House of the Dragon season 1. The film is on time.
A mystery DCU project
James also revealed that he’s working on something interesting, but he didn't divulge any details about it. Although Gunn did declare it was not the sequel to Superman and was separate from his work on other DCU movies and shows.
Batman story, The Brave and the Bold
James Gunn is working especially hard on bringing the caped crusader back to life with a new story. This will be a new version of Batman in The Brave and the Bold. The film is in very active development. Gunn confirmed that work on the film's script is progressing nicely, and he is actively involved in the process given that Batman is one of the DCU's three main heroes, alongside Superman and Wonder Woman. The Brave & The Bold will feature a different Dark Knight and not Robert Pattinson.
Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is in DCU’s main trio and is expected to appear in Paradise Lost, a TV show announced in January 2023. Gunn has confirmed this remains a priority, with the DC Studios' chief being as involved in this process as he is with The Brave and the Bold.
Peacemaker Season 2
This is another live-action project that James Gunn is very thrilled about. The film is set to release in 2025. Peacemaker season one's ending is regarded as canon to the DCU by Gunn, all except the brief cameo from the DCEU's Justice League, which is now rendered null and void. Regardless, Peacemaker season 2 will continue the story of Chris Smith/Peacemaker, with the boss hinting it gets even more complex, personal, and emotional.
Creature Commandos Season 2
James Gunn has confirmed that Creature Commandos season 2 has been ordered. Thanks to the strong reviews and word-of-mouth, makers are positive about taking the story forward.
Clayface begins production
James Gunn and the makers have fast-tracked the “full horror” film for release in fall 2026. The film will begin work in the summer of this year. Like Lanterns and Swamp Thing, Clayface has a different tone and style to the likes of Superman.
Animated movie Dynamic Duo
One of the first DCU projects to be announced last year was an animated movie called Dynamic Duo. The film will feature two versions of Batman's trusty sidekick Robin. The film has been kept mostly under wraps since then. Dynamic Duo was described as a coming-of-age crowd-pleaser that will allow an introduction to Gotham, yet Gunn hinted it may not be set in the mainline DCU.

Four new family-friendly DC Universe shows
Alongside the confirmation of Dynamic Duo, more easygoing DCU projects were announced by Peter Safran and James Gunn. They revealed that four new TV shows have been announced: three animated projects called My Adventures with Green Lantern, Starfire, and DC Superpowers, and a live-action episodic Superman spin-off featuring Krypto. These will all be family-friendly stories for the DCU, fleshing out the franchise beyond more mature filmmaking.
