I mean, even just the simple gesture of... we were working for the first time, but then the level of comfort, the level of energy, focus on recording the song, to be a part of it, matters a lot.

"In a world full of noise to be heard, truly heard, is a blessing, and I promise to use this recognition not as a finish line but as fuel to continue striving, learning, and giving back. It is a reminder that acting is not a job but a responsibility to bring truth to the screens. And then lastly to my fans, thank you for all the cheers and all the tears. Really, thank you for pausing your scroll while watching my work. This award is for you, as each award is. I would love to spread my arms for you and share my love, but I'm a bit indisposed. But don't worry, just keep the popcorn ready, I'll be back in theatres and soon on the stream, so till then, just with one hand 'ready'," the Superstar concluded.

The "half a hug" may be classic SRK, but the full heart behind it is what makes this win truly special.

Khan won the Best Actor National Award along with Vikrant Massey who won it for his performance in 12th Fail. Thanks to the jury, the I&B ministry… Iss samman ke liye Bharat Sarkar ka dhanyawaad. Overwhelmed with the love showered upon me. Half a hug to everyone today…" Shah Rukh Khan reacts after winning National Film Award He said, "Namaskaar and adaab. Needless to say, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility to be honored with the National award that I'll cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much to the jury, the chairman, the I&B ministry and everyone who thought I was worthy of this one. I would like to thank all of my directors and writers, especially for the year 2023. So, thank you Raju sir, thank you Sid and especially, thank you Atlee sir and his team for giving me the opportunity in Jawan." The actor further added, "I want to thank my team and management which works tirelessly with me. They bear with my eccentricities and impatience and give me their full attention and make me look much better than I am. This award, without the perseverance and love, would not be possible at all. Thank you so much for everything you do. My wife and kids, who over the last few years gave me so much more love and care as if I am the kid in the house and want only the best for me. They know my obsession with cinema takes me away from them but they all bear it with a smile and allow me the time. So, thank you so much for that. 'The National Award is a reminder' The Pathaan actor went on to add, "The national award is not just about achievement; it's a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep working hard, keep creating, and keep serving cinema." It’s a monumental moment not just for SRK, but for millions who have grown up watching him rule the screen. This National Award comes at a significant time in Khan’s career, after a triumphant return with a string of successful films in 2023 which not only redefined his image but also brought back audiences to theatres in 2023 and 2024.

Son of Sardaar 2 Movie Review: Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2 is out with a punch of comedy and less craziness. The movie is a follow-up to the hugely popular 2013 film Son Of Sardaar and returns with mostly the same cast, along with an entirely new plot and a few new actors. While the first movie became one of the most loved comedies of the last decade, what about its successor? Does it achieve less or more success? Let’s dig in.

In several recent movies, the plot, dialogue, and scenes have crossed the boundaries in the name of comedy, and the result was an excess of vulgar and sexist jokes. The line between humour and crassness is very thin, and many recent movies have crossed it, thinking that it's a new comedy. When a writer and a director understand their work well, the result is a comedy that makes the audience truly enjoy the film. Thankfully, Son of Sardaar 2 falls into this category.

The plot of Son of Sardaar 2

The movie revolves around Jassi Randhawa (Ajay Devgn) and the Sandhu family; however, they are not the same Sandhus from the first movie. Jassi is an innocent Punjabi man who has been waiting for his visa for several years to visit his wife, Dimple (Neeru Bajwa), in Scotland. After a long wait, his visa finally arrives, and he flies from the greens of Punjab to Edinburgh (presumably), only to be shocked when his wife tells him she wants a divorce.

As he tries to settle the legal formalities with his wife, he meets Rabia (Mrunal Thakur), a Pakistani woman who performs at weddings with her group, which includes Gul (Deepak Dobriyal), Saba (Roshni Walia), and Mehwish (Kubbra Sait). The group also includes Chunky Panday, who plays Mrunal's husband, Danish. However, he elopes with a Russian woman, leaving everyone on their own. Jassi, with nowhere to go in a foreign land, finds a home with them.

Meanwhile, Saba is in a relationship with Goggi, the super-rich son of Indian businessman Raja Sandhu (Ravi Kishan), who comes from a strange and dysfunctional family and wants a respectable family for his son. Raja, with his orthodox thinking, has a deep hatred for Pakistan. When it comes to Saba's future, Rabia and her clan make a plan that involves Jassi pretending to be Saba’s Indian father, and they execute their plan to get her married in the most chaotic way possible.

What follows is a hilarious ride filled with fake parents, a blast of comedy, and even a parody of Border, which, surprisingly, is genuinely funny.

What works and what doesn't

In my view, trying to find logic in comedy movies is the most illogical thing to do. As always, there are two types of moviegoers: those who watch these films by leaving their brains at home, fully aware of what they’re watching and just enjoying their time, and others who look for logic in every scene. If you belong to the first category, then you will enjoy this movie.

Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film entertains with senseless moments, but most humorously and playfully, without going overboard.

No doubt, the movie features over-the-top, unrealistic moments, but that’s the charm of this comedy, where you simply laugh at Devgn’s expressions, silly dialogues, Sanjay Mishra and his gang’s humorous expressions and weird clothes, and all the exaggerated physical actions, including a tank outside the house, fake marriages, absurd situations, and other ridiculous elements purely meant to please the audience and make them laugh. Even the choreography of the song Pehla Tu Duja Tu didn’t make sense.

Still from Son of Sardaar 2

After a while, I genuinely enjoyed the movie for all its silliness. However, the film fell short when it came to the climax. Devgn’s movies usually end in a riot of chaos and fun, giving one of the best climaxes, even Son of Sardar's climax was the best. But this time, the movie ended with only mild chuckles, a calm and lazy conclusion that wasn’t expected. It felt like the writers rushed to wrap things up as quickly as possible. Compared to its predecessor, this movie fell short. But, for those who haven't watched the first part, they will enjoy it.

With a decent runtime of 2 hours and 27 minutes, the movie offers plenty of laughs and drama, including a bizarre retelling of the Border movie. That scene didn’t make much sense, but all the actors did a fantastic job, especially Vindu Dara Singh and the late actor Mukul Dev. While Devgn was leading the movie, other actors too get meaty roles.

What could have made the movie even better and enjoyable is if Sanjay Dutt had been a part of it. Over the years, he and Ajay have built an on-screen camaraderie that never fails to entertain.

Bollywood films are bringing back the old charm again, and Son of Sardaar 2 is one of those movies that serves as a perfect family entertainer.

Son of Sardaar 2 Review: Ajay Devgn's film is a perfect comedy entertainer after a long time. It wins hearts with the cast's performances but falls short with its predictable plot. Despite all the silliness and clumsiness, the movie is surprisingly funny.

Son of Sardaar 2 movie review: Ajay Devgn's film is silly, chaotic and surprisingly funny

Dhadak 2 movie review: Somewhere near the climax of Dhadak 2, tired of fighting back constantly to claim his position in society, Neelesh- the male protagonist of the film- states, “Haalat badal sakte hai, jaat nahi (situation may change, but caste won’t)". The line hits you hard. Even as India progresses, the discrimination and politics that come along with it- will never end. Filmmaker Shazia Iqbal’s film Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, addresses the age-old caste politics that persist in Indian society to date, through reservation and quotas, disrespect, vote banks, and more. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, it takes up the same theme that Dhadak was set in, of star-crossed lovers, one from the marginalised section and the other from the privileged class, and the problems they face in their love story. Both films are remakes. However, Dhadak 2 soars due to its sharp writing and superb performances by the lead.

Plot of Dhadak 2

Neelesh is an optimist yet cautious law student, who has gotten admitted to the city’s prestigious National Law College due to his good marks and a caste certificate. He belongs to the marginalised section of society, the oppressed lower caste and is aware that only education can help him improve his and his people’s lives. He meets the vibrant, vivacious Vidhi in class. Vidhi’s background is strikingly different from Neelesh’s. Born to a Brahmin family of lawyers, Vidhi and her sister have been raised by their father in a joint family. While the family is liberal enough to ‘allow’ their daughters to study law, eat non-vegetarian food, they are conservative enough to seek out only grooms from the same caste for the girls. Naturally, Vidhi and Neelesh’s closeness infuriates the family, especially Ronnie, Vidhi’s cousin and classmate in law.

Elsewhere, an unassuming man goes around killing young girls and boys who have dared to fall in love with someone outside of their caste. The man calls himself a social worker, who hates the oppressed lower caste and kills nonchalantly, making each death look like an accident or a suicide.

While Neelesh is aware of his status, Vidhi is carefree and wants to be with him. He resists but she persists, but it's her family that poses as the biggest threat to their love story.

What works in Dhadak 2

The film, an official Hindi remake of 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, jolts you into understanding how deeply rooted and pervasive caste based discrimination is in the society. Written by Rahul Badwelkar, Shazia Iqbal, Dhadak 2 brilliantly highlights the two different worlds that exist in the same class in law school. Vidhi is privileged, comes from a family of lawyers who flaunt their status in society, yet are the most insecure about family honour. Violence is an easy option to shut down those who rebel against them. Meanwhile, impoverished and marginalised, Neelesh’s family understands the power that education holds and when to fight back and when not to choose violence. They are oppressed, often misunderstood and harassed by the upper class and caste- yet they choose peace and education, partly because they know the law does not support them and partly because they follow Ambedkar’s ideology.

At no point does the film feel preachy. The beauty of Dhadak 2 lies in how slowly the viewers are made to understand the flawed system, the problems of the oppressed class and how they are oppressed. From a back bench reserved for him, to a condescending professor unwilling to give him a chance to shine, Neelesh’s struggles are daily, which Vidhi can never fathom, at least initially. You feel angry and restless at the injustice that is meted out at Neelesh - it makes you uncomfortable.

The performances in Dhadak 2

The writing is backed by stupendous performances. Both Siddhant and Triptii have proved their mettle before in films like Gully Boy and Bulbbul before. In Dhadak 2, they breathe life into their respective characters. Siddhant’s character is more difficult to perform, but the actor delivers to the part very well. Tripti, who has been unfortunately labelled as just a sex symbol post the success of Animal, gets to sink her teeth in an authored back rolee in this film. She plays the girl next door who never wants to give up on her love and is willing to fight back for Neelesh.

The supporting cast, of Vipin Sharma – as the drag folk dancer father to Neelesh, Anubha Fatehpuri – the righteous mother of Neelesh, Harish Khanna as Vidhi’s helpless father, are all stunning and real in their respective parts. Saurabh Sachdeva, as the unassuming assassin too, is brilliant in his role and gives you the creeps just by being in the scene.

The inherently flawed system

Dhadak 2 in many moments numbs you, makes you uncomfortable and makes you think hard – and that is a good thing. Much like sexism, casteism is very ingrained in our society. It is so common that we overlook it, almost thinking it's normal. It peeks at you from the most unassuming moments of life, from the choice of food, from the way one dresses, the way we treat our helps at home, and no matter how much we call ourselves liberal and non-conformists, we are all guilty participants of the flawed system. The film makes you wake up and realise how much of an active participant you have been all this time. It comes at a time when another love story Saiyaara, is ruling the box office, but the two films are strikingly different. One is about love and sacrifice, this one is about fighting back- against the system, for one's right. Love in Dhadak 2 becomes an active agent of change for Neelesh and Vidhi to fight back and speak out against what is wrong.

Final verdict

For those who have watched the Tamil original, the Hindi film may seem unnecessary. However, much like Mrs, which was a remake of Malayalam The Great Indian Kitchen, Dhadak 2 reaches out to a wider Hindi-speaking audience and talks of a pertinent issue at hand. The film is also far more realistic and therefore relatable than the first part, which concentrated more on being the launch pad for the two star kids- Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor. Dhadak had some memorable songs, much like its original. The second part has some good music, but it's not a patch on the soundtrack of the first film. That apart, the second film is far superior in terms of performances, treatment and story.

In Dhadak, the caste politics got muzzled and appeared more synthetic. In Dhadak 2, the same theme jolts you up from all kinds of delusions and myths and stays on long after the film is over.

Dhadak 2 releases in theatres on August 1.

Similar to Dhadak in terms of theme, Dhadak 2 however, paints a more realistic and relatable picture about casteism that exists in Indian society. The film is helmed by Shazia Iqbal who ably talks of the inherently flawed society and the discrimination that exists.

The rankings are a result of the report, Top 50 streaming originals in India, released by Ormax Media for the first half of 2025. Ranking first in the list is Criminal Justice: A Family Matter with 27.7 million views, surpassing Ek Badnaam Aashram Season 3 Part 2 (27.1 million) at second place and Panchayat Season 4 (23.8 million) at third place on Amazon Prime Video. Notably, the rankings are based on the number of unique individuals who watched the show or its episodes at least once. For shows, one full episode is required to be watched, and for films, a minimum of 30 seconds of watch time.

What sets Pankaj Tripathi's Criminal Justice: A Family Matter apart?

Parineeta: Story, cast and more

Parineeta is one of those rare films that achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success upon its original release in 2005. Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, the film captivated audiences with its evocative period setting, timeless music by Shantanu Moitra, and poetic visual storytelling.

Anchored by stellar performances from Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, and Sanjay Dutt, Parineeta continues to resonate with audiences. The film was shot across some of Kolkata’s most stunning locations, infusing the narrative with a rich sense of place and cultural depth. The city’s old-world charm, vibrant streets, and timeless architecture not only lend authenticity to the storytelling but also become an integral character in the film—mirroring its moods, contradictions, and soul.

Parineeta won several awards and accolades upon release, including National and Filmfare Awards, and is widely remembered for its unforgettable soundtrack, elegant storytelling, and remarkable performances by its leads.

Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt-starrer movie Parineeta hit the theatres in 2005. Directed by late-acclaimed director Pradeep Sarkar, the movie was a commercial success, earning Rs 32.63 crore (Rs 326 million) worldwide.

Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan's timeless romantic drama Parineeta is set to hit the theatres again. Probably a golden chance for the teens, who now have a chance to watch the romantic drama on the big screens again. The movie has been released on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. Adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's iconic 1914 Bengali novel, this special re-release not only celebrates two decades of Parineeta’s enduring legacy but also commemorates 20 years of Vidya Balan’s remarkable journey in Indian cinema and 50 glorious years of Vinod Chopra Films, the studio behind some of the most definitive films in Indian cinema. The film will have an all-India re-release in select theatres on August 29, 2025, exclusively for a week. Chopra Films is the first production house in India to restore its entire film library in 8K resolution, with soundtracks remastered in 5.1 surround sound, a meticulous process that took over four years to complete. Part of this restoration work was carried out at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy, a globally acclaimed lab known for restoring cinematic classics.
