The much-awaited teaser for Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3 was expected to drop on October 2, a date that has become synonymous with the franchise’s universe. However, fans who were eagerly waiting for Vijay Salgaonkar’s return were left disappointed as the teaser didn’t release as planned. Reports now suggest that the delay comes from creative differences and legal clauses involving the makers of the original Malayalam Drishyam.

Why was the Drishyam 3 teaser delayed?

According to sources, the Drishyam 3 teaser, reportedly a one-minute-twenty-five-second cut, was ready for unveiling on Gandhi Jayanti. But at the last moment, the Hindi production team was forced to put the release on hold. While the official reason cited was the “incomplete background score,” reports claim there’s more behind the postponement.

Also Read: Zubeen Garg’s cousin, Assam DSP Sandipan Garg, arrested over singer’s mysterious death

As per Mid-Day reports, “There is an understanding between Malayalam franchise creator Jeethu Joseph, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and Hindi producer Kumar Mangat. As per one of the adaptation clauses, the Hindi team cannot make any announcement about their film’s content without approval from the original makers.”

This clause reportedly came into effect after the Hindi producers prematurely announced Drishyam 3’s release date, October 2, 2026, shortly after Mohanlal’s Malayalam version began filming. The move didn’t sit well with Joseph and Perumbavoor, leading to a temporary halt in the Hindi team’s promotional activities.

Also Read: Sameer Wankhede vs Aryan Khan: Delhi HC issues summons in defamation case

Creative disagreement between makers

The Drishyam franchise has always been a collaborative effort across industries, but this time, tensions seem to be brewing. Initially, Jeethu Joseph was set to direct all three versions, Malayalam (Mohanlal), Hindi (Ajay Devgn), and Telugu (Venkatesh), for a simultaneous release in 2026. However, producer Kumar Mangat wanted his son Abhishek Pathak, who successfully directed Drishyam 2 (2022), to helm the Hindi installment.

This decision reportedly created friction between the teams, with the Malayalam side now aiming to release their version before the Hindi counterpart.

Also Read: Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda dies, succumbs to injuries after road accident

Work on the Malayalam version already underway

Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal have already kick-started the Malayalam Drishyam 3, with filming beginning in late September. Fans will have to wait a little longer for the teaser of Drishyam 3 as its release has been postponed. Read on to know why.

Also Read: Zubeen Garg’s cousin, Assam DSP Sandipan Garg, arrested over singer’s mysterious death As per Mid-Day reports, “There is an understanding between Malayalam franchise creator Jeethu Joseph, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and Hindi producer Kumar Mangat. As per one of the adaptation clauses, the Hindi team cannot make any announcement about their film’s content without approval from the original makers.” This clause reportedly came into effect after the Hindi producers prematurely announced Drishyam 3’s release date, October 2, 2026, shortly after Mohanlal’s Malayalam version began filming. The move didn’t sit well with Joseph and Perumbavoor, leading to a temporary halt in the Hindi team’s promotional activities. In contrast, the Hindi version, starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Rajat Kapoor, and Akshaye Khanna, is expected to begin shooting in December 2025 under Abhishek Pathak’s direction. A Pinkvilla report said, “The Ajay Devgn-starrer will begin shooting on October 2, 2025, with a marathon schedule across real locations in Maharashtra. The film is slated for a Gandhi Jayanti 2026 release.” Also Read: Kantara makers urge not to 'imitate or mimic' Daiva characters, call it hurtful Drishyam: A legacy that redefined crime thrillers The Drishyam franchise, originally written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, began with the 2013 Malayalam hit starring Mohanlal.
After earning rave reviews at prestigious film festivals, the critically acclaimed Hindi film Santosh, starring Shahana Goswami, is set to release in India on OTT.

From global festival sensation to streaming premiere, Santosh, the film confronts uncomfortable truths - a fearless story of caste, gender, and power. Some silences weigh heavier than words, silences that can bury a truth as completely as a shallow grave. Into that silence steps Santosh, a film that refuses to look away.

After earning international acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 (Un Certain Regard), the film will now reach audiences for the very first time, and in doing so, it marks a homecoming for a story that has resonated globally but was always rooted here. It is set to stream this October 17 on Lionsgate Play.

Directed by Sandhya Suri and produced by Good Chaos, Cinefrance Studios, and MetFilm Production, Santosh stars Shahana Goswami in a blistering lead role, alongside Sunita Rajwar (Panchayat) as Inspector Geeta Sharma. What begins as the story of a widow stepping into her late husband’s police uniform soon unravels into a searing investigation that exposes not only a brutal crime but the fault lines of caste, gender, and power in rural India.

What is Santosh about?

The film follows Santosh, a young widow who inherits her late husband’s police position through compassionate appointment. What begins as a symbolic placement quickly turns into a reckoning when she is assigned to the investigation of a Dalit teenager’s rape and murder.

Partnered with Inspector Sharma, Santosh is forced to navigate a landscape where evidence is buried under prejudice, power shields perpetrators, and the law bends in the direction of those who write it.

With its layered writing and lived-in performances, the film turns every silence, every hesitation, into a question about whose voices matter, and whose are erased.

Talking about Santosh, Shahana Goswami said, “Santosh is a film that is very close to my heart. A beautifully written story, depicted truthfully, holding up a mirror to us of the world we live in, that we have all helped create. Sandhya Suri, the writer and director, has crafted something so meaningful and touching. The film has been shown all over the world, starting its journey at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, and has been greatly appreciated by critics and the public alike. All the actors in Santosh are brilliant, but I will especially speak of Sunita Rajwar, who has done an excellent job playing a very complex character. It was a joy working with her and watching her become Geeta Sharma. You will see her in a completely new avatar. I cannot wait for everyone in India to finally be able to watch the film.”

Santosh, a British-Indian film written and directed by Sandhya Suri, is set to release in India. The movie stars Shahana Goswami, Sunita Rajwar.

Bollywood actress Triptii Dimri has finally broken her silence, albeit without words, amid the controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone’s exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit. After replacing Deepika as the female lead opposite Prabhas, Triptii made a quiet yet powerful move that has gone viral online: she liked a social media reel defending Deepika against ongoing "negative PR" and hate campaigns.

Triptii Dimri’s silent show of support for Deepika Padukone

The reel, shared by celebrity saree draper Dolly Jain, highlighted Deepika’s sheer dedication to her craft. Triptii Dimri’s silent show of support for Deepika Padukone The reel, shared by celebrity saree draper Dolly Jain, highlighted Deepika’s sheer dedication to her craft. In the video, Jain recalled how Deepika performed the high-energy Nagada Sang Dhol sequence from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela barefoot and in pain, her feet swollen and bleeding from the weight of a 30-kg lehenga and the rigorous choreography. Once considered as fringe, the horror genre is redefining Bollywood in more ways than one. Not only has revived a genre once considered cringe but its sucess has led to more makers taking the plunge in this genre and reinventing.

Long written off as fringe, horror is back in India's Bollywood, reinvented with comedy, mythology and big stars powering a box-office renaissance. "There are new stories, fresh talent, and all of this is leading to a resurgence," said director Deepak Ramsay of the renowned filmmaking family, which has created around 30 horror titles over the decades. "Films that were once niche are turning out to be blockbusters." Once dismissed as pulp, bigger budgets, sophisticated special effects and A-list casts are pulling Bollywood horror out of the shadows. "There is a huge audience wanting to watch such movies," said director Aditya Sarpotdar, whose film "Thama" -- touted as India's first vampire movie -- releases this October. Billed as a "bloody love story", it stars popular actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, and blends Bollywood's signature song-and-dance numbers with werewolves and sharp fangs. Ramsay credits some the genre's new-found success to prosthetics and computer-generated effects that have "gone to the next level", noting that budgets have also shot up. From as little as $25,000 to make a horror film, "now budgets are closer to $9 million", he said. Bollywood's horror history runs deep. The 1949 black-and-white hit "Mahal" is widely regarded as the first Hindi horror film, when Kamal Amrohi's supernatural tale of a reincarnated lover introduced a striking aesthetic. - 'Get scared' - The Ramsay Brothers pushed the genre forward in the 1970s and 1980s, with low-budget "creature" features in the style of Britain's "Hammer House of Horror". But despite occasional standouts, horror became associated with shoestring budgets, cheap effects and lesser-known actors. "None of the big stars would be interested because the budgets were small," Ramsay said. And with horror films often restricted to adult viewers, "almost 50 percent of the audience would be cut off", he added. Even so, the Ramsays had a winning formula: Blood and sex pulled in crowds with lurid gore and scantily clad women. A slow shift began in the 2000s, with Ajay Devgn starring in the 2003 success "Bhoot" ("Ghost"), while Akshay Kumar led cult hit "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" in 2007, a landmark that mixed psychological thriller and comedy. The broader popular rise began in 2018 with "Tumbbad" -- the first Indian film to open Venice Critics' Week -- and "Stree", which drew on folklore and mythology to captivate audiences. Today's filmmakers are increasingly blending genres. "There's a very thin line between horror and comedy," Ram Gopal Varma, who directed "Bhoot", told AFP. "The moment you get scared, your first reaction after the shock is to laugh." - Biggest star - Sarpotdar said the lighter approach broadened the appeal. "When catering to mass audiences, humour becomes key," he said. His 2024 hit "Munjya", a 12A-rated tale of a vengeful spirit who wants to get married, turned into a family outing. "Children pulled their parents to theatres," he said. Despite recent success, Sarpotdar believes Indian cinema has yet to give the genre its full due. "We always looked at horror as pulpy," he said. He now has his eye on the ultimate prize: Bollywood's biggest star. "I would love to see Shah Rukh Khan attempt horror," said the director. "If these films are fun and entertaining, why not?"
