A day after Mohanlal put his views forward on the Hema Committee report, another superstar of Malayalam cinema, Mammootty, has spoken out.
After maintaining a stoic silence over the bombshell report that has rocked the Malayalam film industry to its core, the actor has shared a lengthy statement, supporting the Hema Committee report and its shocking findings.
"I wholeheartedly welcome and support the recommendations and solutions said in the Hema Committee report. It is time for all associations in the film industry to join hands and implement them. On the complaints that have been raised nowpolice investigation is progressing (sic)," he wrote in a statement shared on Facebook.
Further, the actor mentioned that there is ''no powerhouse'' in the industry and the court should decide the punishments for the accused. For the unversed, in the report, it has been mentioned that there is a 15-member ''mafia-like power group'' that has controlled the Malayalam film industry.
"The full version of the Justice Hema Committee report is before the court. Let the police investigate honestly. Let the court decide the punishments. There is no 'powerhouse' in cinema. Cinema is not an arena where such things can exist. The practical recommendations of the Hema Committee report must be enacted if there are legal hurdles. Ultimately, cinema must survive (sic)."
The report has shockingly revealed the dire situation of women in the industry. It has revealed that the women actors, technicians and other working females have been harassed and molested by their male counterparts in the industry.
'Wrongdoers should be punished': Mohanlal breaks silence on Hema report, defends AMMA
Since the report came out, several members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) have been accused of sexual assault and misbehaviour by multiple women and actresses. As a result of the growing allegations, the association led by actor Mohanlal was dissolved.
Concluding his statement, Mammootty said, ''The organisation (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) and its leadership should react first. I believe that I should give my opinion as a member only after their responses, that is why I waited this long."
