Australia Test and ODI skipper Pat Cummins says that he 'ran out of time' to become fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Cummins was not included in Australia's final squad for the tournament, which begins Feb 7. The Aussie pacer is dealing with a back injury since Australia tour of Caribbean and has not taken part in much of Australia's competitive cricket played. The pacer last appeared in third of the five Ashes Tests at home against England. With the urn retained, Cummins decided to rest and try to be fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup, but alas, it wasn't meant to be for him.<h2>Why Cummins isn't playing in T20 World Cp 2026 for Australia?</h2>"I feel pretty good, just a minor setback and just ran out of time really," Cummins was quoted as saying to AAP. "We knew after the [Adelaide] Test match we were going to need somewhere between four and eight weeks to let the bone settle right down before then building back up. Initially, we thought it might only be four weeks, because I was feeling really good, but just had a follow-up scan. They thought it probably needs another couple of weeks, so the timeline just became a bit too tight," he added.Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/t20-world-cup-2026-no-icc-meeting-scheduled-for-now-to-discuss-pak-boycotting-india-match-report-1770081239701">T20 World Cup 2026 | No ICC meeting scheduled for now to discuss Pak boycotting India match - Report</a>Speaking on the future plans, Cummins confirmed: "I'll rest up for a few weeks and go from there." Pakistan left the cricket world not very amused with their decision to not play India in the group stage match (Feb 15) of the upcoming T20 World up 206. The decision, on behalf of the Pakistan government, came on Sunday (Feb 1) while confirming the team's participation in the ICC tournament which starts Feb 7. While the ICC has warned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of 'long-term implications' of the decision, there's been so far no meeting scheduled to discuss and levy any sanctions on the 2009 T20 World Cup winners. As per ESPNCricinfo, the ICC has not sent an invite to any of the members to discuss the ongoing situation. The PCB, meanwhile, has also indicated no interest in responding officially to the ICC's statement, citing the decision to not play India match is not taken by them but the national government. T20 World Cup 2026 | 'Can't have double standards': Ex-ICC & PCB chair says Pakistan can't be punished for India match boycott

India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has all but confirmed the bowling line-up and combination for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 and there's no place for chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Speaking after India's final T20I of the five-match series against New Zealand, SKY revealed that 'two spinners and two pacers' is a good option for them, considering the grounds and conditions. The ICC tournament, which starts Feb 7, is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka with SKY's team set to play all their matches in India except against Pakistan, which is scheduled in Colombo on Feb 15. The India vs Pakistan contest is, however, uncertain with Pakistan government announcing boycott of the match on Sunday (Feb 1).Surya all but confirms India's bowling combination for T20 World Cup 2026"With such a high-risk, high-reward game at the top, we definitely need an extra batter at No. 8. So Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel all bowling their quotas is a big boost. And then Hardik [Pandya] and Shivam Dube can chip in with two-two overs, some days maybe Abhishek Sharma too. Before the NZ series, SKY had scored almost same runs in 25 matches - marking his return to form before India start their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign as defending champions.

India fielded three spinners in the last multi-team tournament, Asia Cup, but SKY says ‘two spinners and two pacers’ is a good combo for T20 World Cup 2026, given the biggest grounds and quicker wickets in India than in Asia Cup which took place in the UAE.

Surya all but confirms India's bowling combination for T20 World Cup 2026 "With such a high-risk, high-reward game at the top, we definitely need an extra batter at No. So we have a lot of bowling options," said Surya after the final India vs NZ T20I on Saturday (Jan 31). Shall India go by SKY's line-up, Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana may found themselves on the bench barring rotation or injury. Also Read - T20 World Cup 2026 | Pakistan skipper Salman Agha reacts to India match boycott Explaining his reasons on why the bowling line-up doesn't include three spinners as it did during the Asia Cup, which took place in the UAE, SKY said: "During the Asia Cup, the ground dimensions were completely different," he said. "It was a bigger ground and the wickets were a little on the slower side. So we needed that extra spinner. But in India, I think the wickets will be quite good. So two fast bowlers and two spinners is a good combination to go ahead with." Surya finds his from in time for India In the recently-concluded 5-T20I series against New Zealand, which India won 4-1 in last assignment before the T20 WC, skipper Surya roared back to form. He scored 242 runs in five matches with three fifties and a highest of 82 not out at an average of 80 and a strike rate of nearly 197. Before the NZ series, SKY had scored almost same runs in 25 matches - marking his return to form before India start their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign as defending champions.

India fielded three spinners in the last multi-team tournament, Asia Cup, but SKY says ‘two spinners and two pacers’ is a good combo for T20 World Cup 2026, given the biggest grounds and quicker wickets in India than in Asia Cup which took place in the UAE.&nbsp;

‘Prove you’re fair’: Shahid Afridi challenges ICC amid Pakistan’s India-game boycott row

The Pakistan Cricket Team has departed for Sri Lanka for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 amid India-match boycott claims. After whitewashing Australia across three T20Is at home, Pakistan left for the Island Nation on Monday (Feb 2), which will stage all its games, including the knockouts, should they proceed. While the Pakistan government’s official social media post confirms the team's participation in the 20-team tournament, its refusal to play India in a scheduled group game on the third Sunday of this month (Feb 15) raised eyebrows. The ICC, however, hasn't received a formal word from the PCB over its stance.&nbsp;The video footage released by the PCB shows T20 World Cup-bound players departing for Sri Lanka for the first showpiece event of the year, where they are in Group A alongside India, the USA, the Netherlands and Namibia. Unlike Australia, England and New Zealand, who have decided against playing any warm-up games in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play one against Ireland in Colombo. &nbsp;WATCH VIDEO –

Meanwhile, the Pakistani government’s official post sent shockwaves across the cricket world, with mainstream analysts, including commentators and former cricketers, coming out bashing this move. While the world-renowned presenter Harsha Bhogle feared ‘worse’ for the PCB and Pakistan on the repercussions front, ex-England captain Kevin Pietersen took to his X account to question, ‘Should Pakistan and India qualify for the T20 WC final, would Pakistan boycott that game too?’

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">It will be very interesting to see the response of the ICC if Pakistan go to the World Cup but don&#39;t play India. Here is what Kevin Pietersen said,&nbsp;

Returning to the consequences the PCB could suffer upon agreeing to its government’s directives, which they are bound to, the ICC could slap punitive financial penalties, potentially docking their World Test Championship (WTC) points, holding its ICC rankings, restricting top-tier teams from touring the country and overseas players’ participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).<h3>What did ICC say about Pakistan’s boycott of the India match?</h3>Swiftly replying to the social media (of Pak govt.) which threatened to hamper cricket and this World Cup’s integrity by choosing selective participation, the ICC said, "While the ICC awaits official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule. &nbsp;"ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency and fairness, and selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions,” its official statement read.&nbsp; &nbsp;Meanwhile, the ICC rules say that even for Pakistan to forfeit the India match at this month’s T20 World Cup, the Pakistani captain must be present at the toss and convey it to the match referee for that official to formally award Team India a walkover and two points.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad has officially departed for Sri Lanka, yet the PCB has reportedly refused to send a formal email to the ICC confirming their India match boycott. Despite a government directive to skip the February 15 clash in Colombo, the team will play all other fixtures.

What happens if Pakistan boycott India game? Meanwhile, a series of punishments would follow Pakistan Cricket if they were to boycott the India game at an ICC event. Although, according to the rules, the opposing team must be present at the venue for the toss to claim a walkover, if it doesn’t happen and the Pakistan captain, Salman Ali Agha, decides against showing up, the ICC retains the authority to punish the PCB; those include ICC slapping financial penalties, potentially docking their World Test Championship (WTC) points, stagnation in ICC rankings, restrictions from top-tier teams to tour the country and overseas players’ participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, in that case where only the Indian captain comes out for the toss during the scheduled Group A game, the ICC match referee would award Team India a walkover and two points. The Men in Green would begin their T20 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands (Feb 7), followed by matches against the USA (Feb 10) and Namibia (Feb 18), with SSC in Colombo hosting all its matches.

Rajeev Shukla said the BCCI agrees with the ICC’s statement and will not go public about its stance until it speaks with cricket’s governing body.&nbsp;

BCCI official supports ICC action against Pakistan following India match boycott threat

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has criticised Pakistan’s players and cricket board for threatening to skip their group-stage match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The match, scheduled for Feb 15 in Colombo, may not take place after the Pakistan government said the team will play in the tournament but will not face India in the group stage. If Pakistan sticks to the boycott, India would win by default. However, Gavaskar believes Pakistan could still reverse their decision and play the match.&nbsp;“I think in the next four or five days, when reactions start pouring in from across the world and even from their former players, there is a possibility that Pakistan will change their stance. Pakistan players have set examples. They keep coming back from retirement. So something like that might happen before the 15th,” said Gavaskar to India Today.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also Read - <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/t20-world-cup-2026-hazlewood-likely-to-miss-early-matches-australia-name-travelling-reserve-1770015403262">T20 World Cup 2026: Hazlewood likely to miss early matches, Australia name travelling reserve</a>&nbsp;He further pointed out that the problem was the last-minute withdrawal and urged that the ICC should act if Pakistan decide to maintain their stance.&nbsp;“Definitely, I think if you withdraw at the last moment, that is an issue. T20 World Cup 2026: Hazlewood likely to miss early matches, Australia name travelling reserve

India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, after final T20I vs New Zealand on Saturday (Jan 31), revealed that he didn't touch his kit for nearly 10 days after the five-T20I South Africa series. India had won the SA series 3-1 (one match abandoned) but SKY could score only 34 runs in four matches - putting him under pressure leading into the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. In the recently-concluded 5-T20I series against New Zealand, which India won 4-1 in last assignment before the T20 WC, skipper Surya roared back to form. He scored 242 runs in five matches with three fifties and a highest of 82 not out at an average of 80 and a strike rate of nearly 197.
