Former Pakistan cricketers and board officials have warned the PCB against spoiling its relationship with the ICC by contemplating a boycott of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues, despite the loss, focused on the fighting spirit of her players: “The way Rana and Prasad played was outstanding. They gave us hope. It would have been nice to cross the finishing line. We gave 15-20 runs extra at the end and with the bat, we needed partnerships from the top order, including me.” Her words reflected both pride and honesty. Delhi showed tremendous character to stay alive in the chase when the game seemed to be slipping away.

WPL 2026, GG-W vs DC-W: Here's how both captains reacted after the game

Gujarat Giants (GG) produced an edge-of-the-seat performance to defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by three runs in a last-ball thriller in the ongoing WPL 2026 clash at Vadodara on Tuesday (Jan 27). The victory lifted them to second place on the points table, adding more intensity to an already fierce playoff race. Defending 174, GG held their nerve despite a strong fightback from DC, who were reeling at 85 for 5 before Niki Prasad and Sneh Rana revived hopes with a crucial 66-run partnership. With nine runs needed off the final over, veteran Sophie Devine delivered under pressure to seal a dramatic win. Earlier, Beth Mooney’s composed half-century laid the foundation for Gujarat, while Shree Charani’s four-wicket haul kept Delhi in contention till the end.

Ashleigh Gardner and Tanuja Kanwar bowled disciplined spells, conceding minimal runs and keeping Gujarat in control. However, Prasad and Rana’s late fireworks nearly pulled off a remarkable turnaround. Their aggressive 66-run stand off just 31 balls brought DC back into contention and set up a thrilling finish. The final over was a test of nerves, with Devine returning to bowl and executing perfectly under pressure. She dismissed both Prasad and Rana, denying DC a win with smart, slower deliveries and sharp field placements. Despite the valiant efforts from Delhi’s lower order, Gujarat held their composure to claim a memorable victory. For GG, the win is more than just three points; it’s a statement of intent as they aim for a strong finish to secure playoff qualification. DC, on the other hand, will take lessons from their collapse in the final overs and come back stronger in their next game.

India continued their dominant run in the U-19 World Cup with a massive 204-run win over Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Oval, Bulawayo, on Tuesday (Jan 27). It was a completely one-sided match as India outplayed the hosts in every department. Their stand took India to a strong total of 352 and put Zimbabwe under early pressure. In reply, Zimbabwe’s batting didn't show much promise as four batters were dismissed for ducks, while another four failed to reach double figures. India set the tone early with a positive approach at the top of the order. The openers played freely and ensured the scoreboard kept moving, taking advantage of loose deliveries and rotating the strike well. Even when a couple of wickets fell, the momentum stayed with India. The partnership between Malhotra and Kundu proved to be the turning point. Both showed patience, built the innings steadily, and punished bad balls. Their understanding and placement made it difficult for Zimbabwe to apply pressure. India then accelerated in the final overs, adding quick runs to push the total far beyond reach. The strong finish underlined the team’s depth in batting and their intent to dominate the game. With the ball, India were disciplined and consistent. Early wickets put Zimbabwe under pressure, and the required run rate kept rising. The bowlers maintained tight lines, forcing errors and building control. Zimbabwe tried to fight back through small stands, but India’s sharp fielding stopped any momentum.

Bangladesh journalists won’t cover T20 World Cup as ICC rejects over 130 applications – Report

Rajeev Shukla, the BCCI vice-president, has openly accused Pakistan of provoking Bangladesh against travelling to India for the T20 World Cup on the grounds of security concerns. After the BCCI directed IPL team KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman following regular attacks on the minorities in Bangladesh, the BCB decided against sending its team to India for the first showpiece event of the year, claiming a threat to the touring entourage. ‘Our trump card is always going to be Brevis’ - this is what a South African player seven years older than him, Ryan Rickelton, said about ‘Baby AB’ ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
