The ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) saw a huge no-ball controversy pan out on Tuesday (Sep 1) during the match between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents. Both teams needed a win to bolster their playoff chances in the tournament, but the Patriots came out as winners. The controversy involved Patriots' Johnson Charles being adjudged out on a high full-toss before being called back by the third umpire. Tridents skipper Chris Green wasn't happy about it, and he found an ally in Patriots skipper Jason Holder in calling out the umpiring.
Patriots win but not without controversy
Chasing a mammoth 218, SKNP were 35/0 in 3.4 overs when Tridents' Ramon Simmonds bowled a full-toss to Charles. He was caught at deep square by Sherfane Rutherford. Charles was back in the dugout after scoring 26, but the third umpire reviewed the decision and Charles was called back. He hit a six on the very next ball—a free hit. Meltdown in Pakistan cricket: PCB director of high performance Aaqib Javed explains reasoning behind dropping 7 players, sacking coaches

Almost a day after dropping seven squad players and releasing two coaches after losing the Lord’s Test to England, the PCB has demanded a detailed explanation within the next 24 hours from the selection committee over Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq’s inclusions. The latest reports suggest that the PCB has issued show-cause notices to the four-member selection committee, challenging their decisions to play Rizwan and Imam on away tours of the West Indies and England. Former England captain Ben Stokes has signed up for Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL), the franchise announced on Tuesday (Sep 1). The talismanic English all-rounder has also become the first overseas player to join since the new contracting system was confirmed last week, which allows teams to make direct signings.

Pakistan drop 7 players, release coaches after Lord’s Test loss to England

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq was ruled out of the concluded second Test against England at Lord’s due to a calf strain. After sustaining the injury during the first innings of the series opener at Headingley, Imam batted twice in the Tests but did not bat even once during the second match. His absence hurt Pakistan as they lost the Test by 194 runs and conceded the three-match series (2-0) with one game to go. However, startling revelations have surfaced, accusing Imam of using ink to fake his toe injury during the 2025 New Zealand tour, with the PCB reportedly considering a ban. Former PCB selection committee chairman Mohammad Wasim also narrated an instance on the same lines after Imam did not come out to bat in the first innings at Lord’s. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has advised players to stay away from political matters during the ongoing Test series against England and refrain from commenting on the imprisonment of former captain and 1992 World Cup-winning skipper Imran Khan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked its players taking part in the ongoing Test series against England to avoid making comments about the imprisonment of former Pakistan captain Imran Khan. The advice came after British media outlets attempted to get Pakistan players to speak about Imran’s situation. The matter gained attention after Sky Sports aired an interview with Imran’s sons, Kassim and Suleman, during the lunch break on the second day of the second Test at Lord’s. Pakistan head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed was asked whether the players had watched the interview conducted by Mike Atherton. Sarfaraz said the players were having lunch and were not aware of the interview. “No we don’t know anything about it, we were having lunch,” Sarfaraz said when asked about reports that the PCB had threatened not to send the team onto the field after lunch if Sky Sports broadcast the interview.
