T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma recaps ODI WC final dismissal during Bangladesh tie despite good start

Indian captain Rohit Sharma had a mixed day in the T20 World Cup contest against Bangladesh on Saturday (June 22) as he recalled the memories from the ODI World Cup final against Australia. Rohit, playing on 23 off 10 mishit the ball and was dismissed which reminded him of his performance on 19th November 2023 against Australia where he had also similarly mishit the ball before getting out.

Rohit recalls the World Cup final

Having started brightly Rohit looked in great form having scored eight runs from Mahedi Hasan’s opening over. Hethen camegood in Shakib’s second over having scored a six on the first ball which was followed by a four on the third ball. However, it was the next ball where Rohit was caught losing his concentration.

On the fourth ball of the fourth over, he mishit the ball which went in the direction of the mid-off with Jaker Ali completing the catch. This saw Rohit continue his poor form having only scored 99 runs in five innings at the T20 World Cup.

What happened in the Indian innings?

Asked to bat first, after the disappointing dismissal of Rohit, Virat Kohli also failed to impress as he was dismissed for 37 off 28 after the powerplay ended. Suryakymar Yadav then had an entertaining couple of minutes in the middle as he scored a six on the first ball of his innings and then was dismissed on the very next ball by Tanzim Hasan Sakib.Rishabh Pant (36 off 24), however, made his presence felt in the middle and played an important knock to take India to 196/5 in their 20 overs.

Shivam Dube (34 off 24) and Hardik Pandya (50 off 27) laid the foundation for India’s big score while Axar Patel (3) was also in the middle.

For Bangladesh Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib scalped two wickets each while Shakib Al Hasan bagged one wicket.
