India are on top of Bangladesh on Day 2 of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (Sep 20). After ending the opening day's play at 339/6, courtesy of R Ashwin's 102* and Ravindra Jadeja's 86*, India eventually folded for 376 on Friday morning and went to lunch by rocking Bangladesh's top-order. Pacer Akash Deep claimed two wicketsas the visitors went ended the opening sessionreeling at 26/3.

Akash removed Zakir Hasan with a delivery angling into him from wide of the crease, rattling his middle-stump. On the very next ball, the young speedster dismissed Mominul Haque, going past his defence with a ball nipping back as the batter got no connection and saw his off-stump get disturbed.

Akash, who made his Test debut during the England home series, will be aiming for a good run in the home series versus Bangladesh (i.e. a two-match series) and New Zealand (three Tests). With the Australia tour nearing, starting on Nov 22, he will aim to make a strong claim for himself for the five Tests Down Under.

Talking about the first Test, in Chennai, India were asked to bat first on Thursday (Sep 19) and were reeling at 34-3 and werereduced to 144-6 before a solid 199-run stand between Ashwin (113) and Jadeja (86) took India out of troubled waters. On Day 2, theydidn't touch the 400-run mark butposted a challenging total; 376 all-out.

In reply, Bangladesh made a disastrous start and continuedtheir slide even in the second session to betottering at 112/8 at teaon Day 2.
